  1. only thing worse than a will smith movie is a two will smiths movie.
  2. some dude was talking during all the Apollo 11 hullabaloo the last few days that said JFK getting assassinated might have been the difference between going and not going to the moon. it was real hard for anyone in Congress to say no to funding and deal with "Oh, so you're going to be the one the ruin Kennedy's legacy." I thought that was interesting.
  3. word. probably a race to the prosecutors now to be the first one to talk.
  4. most any crime can have a conspiracy to commit the crime too that catches the non-trigger men. and that requires an overt act in furtherance of the conspiracy. so if anyone thinks someone can credibly accuse you of knowing the criminal objective, watch your anus, because things like . . . i don't know . . . flying the plane to bring all the girls to get raped is a pretty big overt act in furtherance of the conspiracy.
  5. pulled that up this morning to listen to.
  6. that's interesting and fucking embarrassing. we can't even make propaganda films right any more.
  7. my wife went to wash u. loved it. still sees her friends from there every year 2 decades later.
  8. i feel like every person outside of the victims themselves better get real familiar with the 5th amendment.
  9. the video is incredible. https://deadspin.com/with-a-series-of-slowballs-stevie-wilkerson-became-the-1836724040 sticking to this bit the whole inning has to be tough for a professional athlete. at some point you'd want to rare back and fire one in. but it worked.
  10. Also, the name of some fake Italian director was Antonio Margharetti. That’s one of the made up names of the Italian crew in Basterds.
  11. And this. Someone wants to do something original, I’ll watch.
  12. Liked it. Not really sure why. I suspect DiCaprio and Pitt are as responsible for my enjoyment at Tarantino. They were both fantastic.
  13. Yeah. I was wondering if the Rs might just have some star ‘move’ to Maine a la Hillary.
  14. i think a lot of it had to do with Bush v Gore. Because Gore made environment his big thing, it really ramped up the reactionary response. then the election came out like it did and the controversy made the heat even more.
  15. as a child of the 90s, it is mind boggling to see 1380 and think 'not UT qualified.'
  16. I think it is slowly getting better. the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice. or society progresses one funeral at a time.
  17. It's Ole Miss. Not very easy to narrow down suspects.
  18. i spent a second trying to google anything where you could look up multi-variable political leanings. what does young + rural think versus old + rural. couldn't find anything. anyone know where you can get data like that?
  19. Something old I came across from that choad that wanted to bomb mosques in Kansas. Here is his sentencing memorandum from his lawyers. https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5023695/Patrick-Stein-Sentencing-Memo.pdf A key citation in the discussion of Trump's rhetoric amping up retards like the defendant. Thanks Nigel.
  20. That's Landa's trophy for his work: holding people in a state of uncertainty that he's figured them out, while they can't escape the situation because of rules of decorum. He does it to the the Frenchman. He does it to Shoshanah with the Strudel and saying there's something else I wanted to ask you. He does it to the whole crew laughing at the mountain climbing and asking what mountain in Paris she claimed and then switching subjects saying he's just teasing and then going through Italian accents. Every time he knows the truth, but ratchets up the tension by making it vague he knows. That's why he reacts differently with von Hammersmark at the end and strangles her in rage. She says "oops" and won't continue the charade dialogue. I read on reddit someone's theory that Hellstrom DID know the whole time. Bridget says the 3 finger thing gave them away, but he knew earlier. (the reddit post gives some decent evidence of it, including what was written on the card being an obscure German actress in movies that had been embargoed during the war which would expose Hicock's non-German nature, the fact that he immediately tries to get them in a drinking came to have an advantage in the fight to come by ordering scotch for everyone else but immediately saying he doesn't drink it, his insistence on sitting next to Hicock, Hugo's presence) The reaction to the 3 finger thing wasn't that he now knows, but because it puts an end to the "monkeyshines" because now he cannot feign not knowing -- even the bartender would notice he was not behaving German-ly. So it forces the issue.
