Snow White was a weird fucking story that was never going to translate well to live action on the big screen if you stuck to the look of the original Disney film, and the dwarves look fucking weird as well. Same with a lot of the other Brothers Grimm stuff. The uncanny valley stuff with the dwarves and the whole apple/kiss plot (true loves kiss which was in a lot of other Disney movies like Sleeping Beauty) and the central plot point being she was supposed to have her heart cut out (in a kid’s movie) in general is just creepy whereas Stitch is cute and lighthearted.
We tend to forget how dark some of the OG Disney films are. If you wan to do modern Brothers Grimm, something like Hansel and Gretel: Witchhunters is the way to go with Gemma Arterton, because just adding Gemma Arterton makes any of them better.
Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Lion King, Lilo and Stitch, are much easier to adapt either because the themes are more timely and more recognizable, or the protagonists gel better with the audience,
