  1. That's what I thought before last week. Seeing the reaction to Kirk's death has me convinced I was incorrect.
  2. I think the issue is that these are not divisive quotes any more. They now reflect the majority opinion.
  3. Talarico still obviously believes most people are good, and this is why he doesn't stand a fucking chance.
  4. After the election, I kept asking myself "is this who we are as a country?" It's easy enough to convince yourself that people were brainwashed or the Democrats fucked up the election or shit was just too expensive... but the last week has proven to me that the simple answer to that question is "yes, this is who we are." We are a country that values the life of a conservative podcaster more than the lives of Democratic lawmakers or children in schools. We are a country that happily lives in two different realities curated by the algorithms in our pocket. We are a country where the media is more focused on access than truth-telling. We are a country that is more concerned with our differences than our similarities. I naively thought that the Democrats just had a messaging problem and that the majority of the country would agree with their ideas if they were just communicated better. I thought that many of the Republican voters just did so out of habit or comfort and weren't truly aware of what their party stood for. That's all bullshit. The liberal viewpoint is the clear minority in this country. The Democrats have lost. When the goals of social media align so clearly with one party over the other (outrage!!!), there's nothing that can be done. We have to accept the new reality, complaining about it now is like going to College Station and complaining that everyone is wearing maroon. @Brisketexan - I'm climbing off the ledge. Not because anything has gotten better, but because there's nowhere for us to even jump. Might as well figure out how to live like this. First step is deleting all forms of social media from my phone. Real life is much more pleasant than life through a screen. I only find disappointment in learning who people are behind their keyboard.
  5. Another fun fact is that the headline is still there, despite the contents of the article being retracted.
  6. If I’m being honest, Thursday and Friday have made me much more depressed about the future of this country than Wednesday did.
  7. What planet do you live on and when did they get internet access?
  8. The bottom line is that the violence will continue as long as the level of personal outrage is dependent on the political views of the victim.
  9. Guess we need to issue an Executive Order banning "very hard Republicans." There's clear evidence now that they raise murderers.
  10. Already posted in this thread, but it's online nerd shit. https://www.theverge.com/politics/777313/charlie-kirks-alleged-killer-scratched-bullets-with-a-helldivers-combo-and-a-furry-sex-meme
  11. Man, you're really hung up on that one word while completely ignoring the greater context of what it could mean.
  12. I too wish that real life Charlie Kirk was the same person as eulogy Charlie Kirk.
  13. Fucking yes! That's what makes all of this so fucking frustrating. Both sides are like 95% the same. We are all just trying to do our best to raise our kids, make some money, and have some fun. We've both got normies and weirdos and online freaks and political dorks. But for some reason, we keep electing and platforming the people (including, unfortunately, Charlie Kirk) who draw attention to our differences. The President of the United States said today that he "couldn't care less" about violence from those on the right. The country will not survive with this attitude. If we as a country do not want this man to die in vain, then we can start electing unifiers instead of dividers. We can recognize that it is unhealthy to immediately assume every horrible act is committed by someone that embodies all of the characteristics we personally hate. We can acknowledge that the world is so much nicer when you aren't fucking filled with carefully algorithm'd rage pumped into your brain 24/7. I'm not holding my breath, but I'd sure like to see it.
  14. Hey, maybe this will teach the world to not assume next time that the perpetrator is the literal personification of your political enemy ... lol jk
  15. edited - likely not the same guy
  16. Might just be anecdotal but the Trayvon Martin killing was the first time I really noticed the seemingly normal people offline posting some really horrendous shit online. Corresponds pretty closely with the rise of social media.
  17. Gossip might be the only thing this man has ever truly loved. I actually don’t think it’s any more complicated than that, in this instance.
  18. President of the United States and there’s still nothing this man loves more than having a little bit of juicy gossip.
  19. Yeah, a lot of people who I knew were likely Republican voters but I suspected stayed away from a lot of the trollish online discourse were clearly very big fans of Charlie. Eye opening.
  20. It seems obvious to me that Kash Patel and crew are royally fucking this thing up so far, but I recognize I carry a political bias into that opinion. Do others with varying political beliefs see it the same way?
  21. LOL at Burns thinking things like "fucking up your job massively with the entire country watching" matter anymore.
  22. It's been said before, but she is a clearly mentally unwell individual who might have found the only profession on the planet that keeps her out of a psychiatric ward.
