  1. I wanted to start this thread, but Wulaw beat me to it. Thanks, sir! I am a big Sark fan. Primarily, because he faced his demons head on and made the best of a second chance. I like what he has to say, and the way he says it. I've heard nothing but praise for him from former players, coaches, and parents. He was high performing college QB, knows the position first hand, and is able to relate to players in a way that few do. He will attract talent. Imo, the biggest mistake Sark made is seeing the talent he inherited and comparing that to other places. I saw as many wtf moments by Texas last year as I have seen in the past 50 years. That was the worst excuse for a "Texas Team" that I have ever seen. How many "pick 6's" did we have? Don't answer that, please! I saw them all. The Okla State one vaporized the emotion on the field and in the stands. We were a rudderless boat spinning around in circles. Were was the leadership on the field? How many "ole" blocks by the OL that resulted in QB pressures and sacks? How many times did Bijan get hit in the backfield? How many defenders had the ball carrier run right by him without even touching him? 100% of this happened on the playing field, not the sidelines. 100% by the players, 0% coaching. Yes, we had talent, but attitude & performance was for shit. He got rid of the bad apples. "I think it will come down to the collective mindset of the team that just got too comfortable with losing without feeling angry." - UTEE97 It starts w/ the culture. We've turned the corner, but are we there? I think so. Can Sark get the most out of the players we have? Not sure. The offense will perform. Too many good players not too. The defense DL is the big question. Is the DL coached to just occupy space? Coburn, Ojomo, Broughton, Collins were all highly recruited. I'm wondering why? Do these gentle giants even have a killer instinct? I'm glad they're good people that will graduate, but they need to play up to their expectations. Whether the expectations are higher than the potential is the question. I'm hopeful PK, Bo and Patterson will get the most out of them, I just hope it's enough. Please pass the Kool-Aid.
  2. Filmed at old Del Valle High School. "High school is a lot like prison: Bad food, high fences; the sex you want, you ain't gettin', the sex you gettin', you don't want."
  3. Not the practice clip, but the new report is no surprise ...
  4. Damn! I already posted this morning about the shit posting upthread. Football IQ? medium double digits maybe? this shit looks like TexAgs! Yeah, I said it. Sark lost to Kansas. Herman's entitled, me first, right now, players quit on him. The players he should have kept from that team would have fit on the short school bus. If Vince doesn't run for 22 yards on 4th & 18, Vince, Mack & Texas loose to Kansas in 2004. Should we have left them all in Kansas? I watched DKR go 5-5-1 with Earl Campbell, Russell Erxleben, Brad Shearer, Johnny "Lam" Jones, Steve McMichael, Johnnie Johnson & Raymond Clayborn. All-Americans. Do you Nancy's want to take his name off the stadium? I watched "all defense, no offense" Fred Akers, a coach that a lot of people didn't want, ditch the Wishbone and run from the "I" (one the biggest offensive adjustments in Texas history), and go 11-0 on Earl's Heisman season. That was story book, romance novel, kinda stuff, up until the last page. Run Fred out of town too? So, we gave a new coach a rare second chance, who happens to be an offensive mastermind btw, a chance to blend a superstar RB, w/ a top rated QB from a Texas football factory, who can "throw a football over that mountain", w/ a couple of cat quick receivers, and damn near a ton of prime beef on the OL. Think of the possibilities.
  5. Immamac; You sir, get a pass, for all that you do for all of us. The chronicle of the Arkansas Road Trip was legendary and would have lived in infammy, but for the fact Texas laid a gigantic turd on the field. For the rest of you whiny, spineless, weasels w/ nary a grey hair, or any hair at all on your nads, This. Just taking out the trash and refreshing the attitude is a step change from last year, even if the remaining personnel was exactly the same. The personnel is better at every position, with the possible exception at RB, which was already among the best in college football. The coaching is better. The Defensive coaches were hired thinking we were getting Muschamp as a Coordinator. We didn't. That was tough spot to put Kwiatkowski in, new players, new coaches, and a new league. Us olds new Fayetteville would be a pressure cooker, too bad Sark didn't know the depth of passion Arkansas has for Texas. Think of Sam standing on the field for "The Eyes of Texas", alone, by himself. One of the most disappointing things I have ever seen by any Texas player. That is but a part of the bag of shit Sark inherited. If you can't see the difference between that and (i) a true freshman, Kelvin Banks, trying to boost Jordan Whittington after a drop in practice or (ii) Junior Angilau, sporting a knee brace two days after a season ending injury working, with the freshmen OL at practice, or (iii) Worthy, Ewers, & Co. actively recruiting for Texas, then perhaps mommy & daddy's money got you into Texas, cause it doesn't seem like your elevator is making it all the way to the top. Sark gets nothing but praise from every player and coach that offers an opinion in the press. Every one. He'll make mistakes, like over valuing the players he inherited, or trying to hire Stoops. He's in offensive savant who connects with players and their parents, and that's as much as you can ask for. Finally, Johnny, maybe when you're not hunting & fishing & falling in Texas, maybe you can get a guest spot w/ Liucci and discuss the symptoms of Battered Aggy Syndrome.
  6. Is Burke the guy that was an "elite" lacrosse player? 6'-7" 234 lbs?, perhaps they were nacho-cheese Doritos?
  7. I agree w/ most of all of this except the apologies. Those fucking fucked fuckers can just fuck off. It's nice to have multiple platforms covering Texas football, but I get tired of the constant negative crap. Glad to see 'em get played and choke on their own vomit. Babers had a good take this afternoon. He knew Quinn was the guy simply because of the way the play makers reacted to him. Worthy changed his picture the day Ewers committed; he knew who his QB was. If it wasn't QE, Sark was gonna have some new locker room problems. We need a QB who can hit a long pass. Its been 10 damn years! You guys and gals are my heroes. Your wit and sarcasm, warped sense of humor, and passion for Texas Football always puts a smile on my face.
  8. you guys are slipping ...
  9. Surly gonna Surly... "I think you can say we are masochists." Exactly, I knew that opinions would be all over the place, ... and I came here anyway, ...and I read them all. What a fucking beating!!! I'm 100% Texas, and an eternal optimist. I'm also realistic. I've willingly attached my emotional wagon to a bunch of overgrown 18-20 year old kids, with the hope that simply putting on an orange jersey will "etch-a-sketch" erase all of our past sins. After losing 3 starters in our first scrimmage, I had pretty low expectations from the open practice. I feel good today. I look for little nuggets; seeing Angilau in a jersey and a knee brace coaching up the kids is one of them. Roschon without a brace is another. The O-line, was, is, and will be the biggest question of the season. The reality of the freshman playing early and often is a big improvement. Not ideal, but this line won't get pushed over and thrown down like a wet dish rag. Bijan getting to the line before contact makes me smile every time I think about it. Ewers throws a deep ball better than anybody here in the past 10 years. That can't be taught. Putting more zip on his "frisbee throws" can be. The ingredients, improved O-Line + Bijan + Ewers, are here. Just have to get the mix right. Simply rushing the QB and jamming receivers at the line will change the dynamics of the defense. We have coaches that can coach. Time to let your players play.
  10. Thanks for posting. good read.
  11. RIP, Woo. Fond coming of age memories in Austin in the late 60's.
  12. One of my favorite Earl pics; The grace and the power, flying over the pancaked DB, the looks of admiration from the SMU band, "he runs like a deer..."
  13. Hall learning more about Texas “I wouldn’t say I know a lot. I know a little. I know the history of the school, how good they used to be and how they want to bring that back. The brand of football they used to play. Hard nosed, run the ball. They probably have the best running back in the country when he’s healthy in Bijan (Robinson). They have some weapons there. Texas’ recruiting is going well. Sydir said it’s a vibe. It’s a cool place to be. He just wants me to get on board.” Somebody get Ricky on the case! Ricky personifies Texas Football.
  14. 5 hours ago, TexEx15 said: Also, Ewers better light shit up or the mullet fucking goes! Ewers is focused, on FB, and doesn't give a rats ass what you think about his hair.
  15. This. Build subsidized renewables in the middle of nowhere, generate stranded energy production, earn renewable tax credits, use renewable profits to drill oil & gas wells, make money on fossil fuels, use renewable tax credits to offset fossil fuel profits. The end result is investment in part time renewable production results in full time and "Tax free" fossil fuel production. The biggest issue in Texas is the land is ~ 98% privately owned with very little government land available. High voltage transmission lines can only be constructed using condemnation and emminent domain; nobody wants transmission lines across their property, or anywhere close. As bad as cross country oil and gas pipelines can be, most of the "damages" are a result of construction and the surface area of the right-of-way still can be used for farming and ranching and hunting in a somewhat "normal" manner. A 500 kv transmission line ROW is much wider, much less aesthetically pleasing, and damn near useless for anything other than its intended purpose. I don't even want to walk under the lower voltage lines. For those of you familiar with climate change studies: Do they consider roadways, parking lots and concrete buildings and structures? That "city" heat was really driven home at the late season baseball games. Disch-Falk was hot as F**K; chairs under the overhang in the shade were still hotter than my body heat well after dark. That mass of concrete we call DKR, midday in September after 80+ days in 100F sunshine, is going to be brutal. Appreciate the varied opinions on a complex subject. I though energy was the biggest issue facing us a graduating engineer in 1979 and it is worse now given the population growth and the multiple layers of politics that impact it. Thermostat settings? Be smart, and considerate, for someone besides yourself.
  16. The most tragic of days in our long, proud history. A stain on the Tower that never goes away. I was 9, playing w/ friends outside, like any other day. Probably still talking about the Batman World Premier at the Paramount 2 days earlier. We went inside for a drink and snack and saw what was on the TV. Ran outside to see if we could see anything, but no, we were 7 miles away. Tried to talk my friends mom to take us downtown so we could see. We were young, and innocent. I was a freshman in '74. The daily trek from Jester to RLM, from Taylor Hall to the Drag, always with a casual eye on the tower. The observation deck was closed in '75 following a series other tragedies and the sad days that followed. And the happier days. Lit up in orange for Earl's Heisman, securing the Guttenberg Bible, the 4 millionith Library book, ... "Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free”
  17. I said, "Each should pay their proportional costs without one subsidizing the other." Each should pay their proportional costs without one subsidizing the other =/= laying all of the costs ... at the feet of renewables.
  18. I don't know the specifics of Germany's nuke situation. I imagine a large part of the timing was related to the replacement of the nuclear fuel and/or major maintenance that was not done predicated on a plant shutdown. Once they put that plan in motion, it is not something that is easily reversed
  19. FIFY. Renewables + subsidies & rules are may be better for our, including the companies that own & operate the renewable assets, wallets. Companies that operate renewables earn "tax credits" for renewables that can be used to offset tax obligations from FF assets. I agree we need more renewables but the playing field is not level. The subsidies & production preferences and tax credits were put in place to allow renewables to be somewhat competitive w/ fossil fuels. Renewables should stand some of the costs associated with the NECESSARY standby power that is needed when the renewables aren't producing, and are idled when renewables are producing. Same thing w/ transmission lines. Fossil fuel plants are located proximate to demand. Renewables have a larger footprint and are located remotely. Each should pay their proportional costs without one subsidizing the other.
  20. A good number of countries are above 80%, including Norway, Denmark is at 60%, Germany gets ~30% from wind and solar combined. Local climate and intraday demand is a HUGE variable lost in these numbers. It's not so much the high temperature, but it's hot 16+/- hours a day for 6-8 months. The A/C Load in Texas is off the charts relative to Norway, Denmark & Germany. ERCOT Demand @ 5 am was 48,350 MW, Demand @ 6 pm ~ 79,100, a intra-day swing of over 30,000 MW. Just for the intraday swing, you need the equivalent of 12 South Texas Nuclear Power Plants, 10,000 wind mills, or a big ass battery system!!! The Siemens Energy simple cycle gas turbines that deliver 150 MW within 10 minutes are good for quick starts, but they are 35% less efficient than the combined cycle, which raises the fuel cost proportionally. A couple hundred of these would do the trick. I'm all for renewables, but you need a reliable back up system, and today, fossil fuel power generation makes more sense than batteries.
  21. You are right in that ~ 80% renewables implies tremendous overcapacity in 24/7 energy production, on the order of 60,000 MW. That scenario, having 80% renewables also means ~ 50-60,000 MW of “idle capacity”, a lot of which is hot & running at reduced capacity, just in case it’s needed. Somebody has to pay for capacity that is running but not producing commercial quantities of power. Regulated nightmare in an unregulated world, particularly with “peak shaving, for profit” power plants; running & selling 70,000 MW of production from 100,000 MW of connected and “able to produce” power. I assume wind & solar can sell whatever they produce, or is it “capped” at the upper end of production v. capacity? Is the hierarchy satisfy demand, sort it out later?
