  1. Toyed with the idea of heading up to my lease today, but weather has been shitty. Not a lot of fun up there when it's raining off and on all day and the sandy roads turn to mush. Forecast for next weekend looks just about perfect, so penciling in a trip Saturday morning. One thing real nice about having a place only 2 hours away. Gonna go sit out on the watering hole in the evening and kill some beers (and hopefully a few dove) and then enjoy some cooler weather around the firepit. Get up that next morning and try to pick off one of the pigs that's been stopping by our new feeder every morning. Man I love this time of year.
  2. 2024, the Year of the Cardiac Astros. We have now 73 wins, and it feels like maybe 10 of them were easy.
  3. DJIA 41563 heading into Labor Day. New ATH.
  4. 10-day forecast is putting out some rather enticing teasers for the end of next week.
  5. TPWD press release yesterday says it was a banner year for the population.
  6. Actual inflation news. September 25 bps cut pretty much locked in at this point, IMO.
  7. Just a bit. Got super dark. Rained hard for about 10 minutes, then light rain for maybe 20 minutes after that. Streets are already dried up.
  8. Been quiet the last few weeks, but might be something brewing. Currently a 40% chance of organizing. Wouldn't reach the US until next Sunday or thereabouts.
  9. Looks like the world's about to end outside my office window. Was planning to grab lunch off campus today, but may reconsider if it starts storming as hard as it looks like it's getting ready to.
  10. Well that was a fun way to wrap up the road trip and wash the taste of the last handful of games out of our mouths.
  11. Volume on.
  12. Welp, it's out now for the suckers who paid for early access. Full release on Friday. So far reviews are mixed, but more positive than negative. 77 on Metacritic. https://www.metacritic.com/game/star-wars-outlaws/ Reports of typical release day bugs and crashes. There are some gameplay streams already out there if you wanna see how it plays and don't care about spoilers. I think I will ultimately enjoy this one, but am in no hurry to drop $70. Per HowLongTo Beat, apparently only about 15 hours to complete the main story, 21 hours to complete main + side quests. I'll wait until it has been patched up a few times and price drops in half sometime next year.
  13. I'lll grab this one eventually once it's on sale. The original was fun but didn't have a ton of replay value (only 8 hours of content). Kinda surprising that they took 13 years to produce a sequel.
  14. Some good ones on Reddit today: Guy delivers both a KO punch and a chokeout to his drunk neighbors mouthing off. And this one is comedy gold. Some Scottish junkies getting comically knocked around. Stick around to the final 20 seconds for a hearty laugh.
  15. Final Monday of the year where it's not one of the major hunting seasons. Went and renewed my super combo this past weekend. Have a morning dove hunt scheduled for 9/3 and then penciling in a quick trip to my lease that following weekend to see if I can put a small dent in the hog population.
  16. Only 85 on my dashboard thermometer this morning and there were these large gray clouds blanketing the sky. Now there's water falling from the sky. Weird.
  17. Crazy how just a little bit of improvement can feel so much better. Currently 96, but with pretty low humidity, and the feels like is "only" 100. Compared to the 110+ heat indices of this past week, it's downright tolerable outside today. Decent rain chances starting tomorrow through Labor Day.
  18. From what I've gathered seeing various posts on LinkedIn, they seem to focus on improperly-plugged abandoned wells. It's their contention that RRC is slow to remediate when old plugs fail and leaks occur, especially in the case of "orphan" wells (i.e. no responsible party that is fiscally solvent can be located). https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/texas-oil-regulator-under-scrutiny-zombie-wells-gush-back-life-2024-08-14/
  19. The Fed tracks all this stuff. https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/DRCCLACBS Credit Card delinquencies are somewhat elevated compared to the last decade. Delinquencies on car loans and mortgages are average to below average.
  20. Suckers ^^ Only 95 with a feels like of 105 in Houston. On a side note, looking forward to getting outside on Sunday morning and taking the dogs for a long walk. If it weren't for the humidity, you could almost describe these conditions as "pleasant."
  21. Wasn't sure if better for inflation thread or real estate. In today's lesson of "things you definitely should not put in writing" Oops.
  22. I started noticing last Summer, much more so than in the past, that guys working construction on roads and large building projects now go for nearly 100% coverage. Long sleeve shirts, neck gaiters, large sunglasses, helmet shrouds....etc.
