  1. I know, I know. But he's proud of his state. You know, that's damn rare thing these days?
  2. We should have been at war with Europe. They were God awful, and I can't believe decades later I still have to hear Final Countdown at sporting events. Fuck Europe.
  3. I grew up in Virginia and North Carolina, two original colonies with some badass histories. Compared to Texas, the residents of those states seem to have very little state pride, and they express no real identity in being "Virginians" or "North Carolinians." So when I moved to Texas in 1994, I actually was impressed with the amount of pride and identity in being a Texan. I was enamored with Texas history and what still seemed like a sense of frontier independence. I'm not sure if back then or even today you could call me a "Texan" (my wife born and raised in Austin tells me I can't truly claim that title), but for about my first decade living here, I was damn proud to claim this state as my home, even as the Democratic strength and influence in Texas politics was evaporating. Now? Now Texas is just another red state. Passing all the red state laws, sometimes trying to lead, mostly desperately following. And there is little to nothing recognizably Texan in our State's leadership (Danny Goeb, I'm taking to you). I haven't felt pride in being a Texan in quite some time. So you go on and celebrate Texas Independence Day, sonny, and stop wasting my time. Because to tell you the truth,
  4. I see somebody hacked into immamac's iPhone photos.
  5. You mean aspiring oligarchies disguised as populist movements.
  6. The same Marco Rubio who on film called Donald Trump a "con man." And Trump's VP labeled Trump as "America's Hitler." And Trump tweeted that Ukraine started the war, and a few days later questioned whether he said that. I could go on. Today's MAGA party doesn't care about what they may have said or done in the past, even if it's in direct contradiction to what they do or say today.
  7. I gave up any dream of either of my kids attending UT a long time ago. The admissions standards are one thing, where even for a lot of smart in-state kids UT is becoming a "reach" school. But my kids were born and have grown up about 15 minutes from campus, and I think a huge part of the college experience is getting some distance and independence from your parents. I think my daughter probably had a decent shot of getting admitted based on numbers alone and her likely major, but she didn't want to apply to a single school in Texas, and that really opened up my eyes to the possibilities of great schools and exciting college experiences far away from her dad. So tx 3 putt's message is a good one, whether for aspiring engineers or any other major.
  8. All I know is I'm going to celebrate tonight with a nice New York Texas strip.
  9. Eh, I still think well of Bobby. He died six years before I was born, but I've read a lot about him and he's a fixture in 1960s documentaries I've seen over the years, and like many Americans I'm left to wonder what good he could have accomplished had he not been assassinated. Maybe if Jr.'s father hadn't died when he was young he wouldn't have grown to be so batshit crazy.
  10. I do, too. And it seems like there are a few different ways to make it. @speed817's version looks close to what I like to make, though I've made what I've read as more of a "traditional" recipe that is much lighter in color as a result of much less tomato. I'm sure it's a far cry from what purists might consider bolognese, but if I want to whip up a weeknight pasta dish that doesn't take too long, I'm a huge fan of Ina Garten's Weeknight Bolognese, and my kids love it. Sometimes I'll double the recipe if I don't want to cook for the following weeknight. https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/weeknight-bolognese-recipe-1924746
  11. H.I., we’re young, we got our health. What we want a job for?
  12. I’ve got decent odds that sometime in 2025 Lawrence O’Donnell accidentally falls from a building.
  13. These town halls don’t mean shit. The elected MAGA’s won’t listen to their constituents, and their constituents will ultimately reelect them simply because they’re not Democrats.
  14. He will feel no shame and he gave up his dignity a long time ago.
  15. Arch will save us. Shit, wrong thread.
  16. It’s nothing to be proud of, Rusty.
  17. Then you’re the only one of those, fuckstick.
  18. They Gaza nother thing coming to them.
  19. She appeared right before the Godzilla cameo.
