  1. elfenix fucks all over page 11. Holy shit, man, that looks outstanding.
  2. A week is too long for me. After you've been a few times, outside of a special event (like the Sugar Bowl), there isn't a ton to do other than eating, drinking, strolling to enjoy the sights and sounds (but not always the smells), and catching some live music). But I've also been going once a year, so 2-3 days is my usual limit.
  3. Did a pretty good job of staying on my workout routine in December, but diet went to shit and I drank a ton. Dry January started today, with two cheat days for special social engagements, so I’ll probably extend it a week into February. My body could use a good detox.
  4. It does. As I’ve mentioned, I don’t think it’s good for his development. Also, while I think the risk of this is low, if somehow word got out that he sleeps with his mom, that’s not going to be awesome for him in the middle school community.
  5. I get that. My fiancé’s son has a fuckton of anxiety. But it’s pretty painfully obvious.
  6. Maybe. But I don’t see any visible signs of anxiety when he’s with me. He’s a pretty happy, well-adjusted kid.
  7. I certainly avoid any sort of shame when I’ve raised this with my son. My pitch has been to talk about how much he’s grown up and become an independent and reliable kid over the last couple years, and with that he might consider sleeping in his own room at his mom’s. But I’ve been very careful so far to not push it with him. With my ex, I won’t make it about her at all, or give any hint that I think she’s been driving this. I’d probably say something along the lines of how much I appreciate the bond he has with his mom, that he seems to want the comfort of having his mom close to him when he sleeps, and that he probably won’t move to his own bed unless he gets some encouragement/permission from his mom. Something like that. But I feel like I have to say something, because I’ve kept thinking it was just going to resolve itself, yet it’s been going on for over four years. Everyone with whom I’ve talked about this has commented on how weird it is. Even the therapist I saw during and after my divorce described it as “not healthy.”
  8. It's a nightly basis, and it's weird, because when we were married he slept in his own bed fine. Maybe part of this is my son thinking subconsciously that sleeping in his mom's bed is some measure of comfort and support for her, since she can be a bit of a wreck (as well-documented in another thread), and he sees that his dad is now happy with a new woman/soon-to-be wife. But I think even my ex would recognize that she can still baby him too much, and I'm sure that part of the equation is some need in her that drives the co-sleeping. I'm probably going to raise this with her since he's going to be a teenager in a few weeks, and will just have to prepare myself for whatever irrational blowback she gives me.
  9. Yeah. Since the divorce she's entered Vic Mackey territory.
  10. He sort of is -- he's emotionally young for his age, but by no means a baby. I've tried to talk about sex with him, and he's thoroughly uninterested in it. And I was too when I was in seventh grade. But just a year later I was masturbating like I was training for the Olympics. I think that's a healthy party of sexual development, and don't want my son held back in that regard because he can't whack off in the same bed as his mom. And for the general overarching reason, it's just plain weird to sleep in your mom's bed as a 13-year-old. I thought by now he'd just naturally move to his own bed at his mom's, but since it doesn't look like it's happening soon, I think I need to say something to her.
  11. Fuck UDub.* *But please give my daughter some scholarship money. K;thanks;bai.
  12. Damn. We all knew about his battle with substance addiction. But I had never heard about this. Getting all choked up here.
  13. Texas 38 Washington 27 Pennix = 25-38, 320 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT, 2 sacks
  14. He’ll never have to buy a 6-piece McNuggets in College Station again.
  15. More perplexing question: At what age does my son stop sleeping in his mom’s bed? He’ll be thirteen in a few weeks. He’s never had a problem sleeping in his own bed at my house, and he’s a pretty mature and independent kid with me (e.g., does his own laundry). When I try to broach the subject with him, in a gentle and nonjudgmental way, he shuts down. I’ve been reluctant to bring it up with my ex because she’d likely rage at me.
  16. Wore the shit out of that album in college. Saw him play a show in Hogg Auditorium (where I actually took an undergraduate final) the summer of 2004, and it blew me away. I like this even better than Cliffs of Dover. Lots of great sounds throughout.
  17. Interesting side discussion on re-reads. Mine have been Pet Sematary, It, Rose Madder, Desperation, and Duma Key. I’d definitely give Salem’s Lot another read. I’ve always wanted to give Insomnia a re-read. I like that book more than most, but it’s also a slow grind.
  18. Became a big fan after In the Bedrooom, which was gut-wrenching. As others have mentioned, his performance in Michael Clayton was brilliant. Seemed like was in his prime his whole career.
