  1. I’m gonna take a crack at the foolproof pan pizza tonight. The no knead dough has been sitting since 8 pm last night.
  2. Damn. I camped at both El Rancho Cima and Strake growing up. el rancho always flooded like a motherfucker so I guess I’m not surprised to hear it was blown out by floods. I remember camping there and having about an inch of water in my tent before our troop called it quits and pulled out for the weekend on Saturday morning. Did merit badge summer camp at Strake and weekend camped there a few other times. I think the summer camp was called trail to eagle. Sad times. The scouts seem to be pretty fucked too with their funding. Heard they had to mortgage Philmont.
  3. Correct. I sat next to a U.S. army officer in business on the way home from Amsterdam. I was headed home from work in Kazakhstan. He was headed home from Ukraine. We got to talking over quite a few scotches and our shared experiences in former Soviet bloc countries. Bottom line is We have had a healthy contingent there for some time advising and training.
  4. Second video shows earthquake lightning. A strange phenomena during earthquakes where lightning is seen even in clear skies.
  5. Typically the banks want 25%+ down for a second home, plus the payments are pretty steep if you only put 10% down. Will be tough to make any money on a cash flow basis. Catpfish covered it well.
  6. Looks like another 600” season in the works. Crush some laps off chair 22 for me out there. I haven’t been able to make it this year, too much life shit going on. Sad I’m gonna miss one of the epic years. Seems they get one amazing one for every three absolute shot ones these days.
  7. If they have 10% down and want to buy a 700k second home they really must not have done their homework.
  8. I’m an oil man. I always knew I would be leaving Denver.
  9. With my company, I increase my after tax contributions to my 401k, then I call fidelity every so often and ask them to move the after tax contributions from my 401k into my Roth IRA. You can contribute up to 61k between your company match and your pre tax and after tax contributions.
  10. If you’re interested in that sort of thing, check out wealthfront, betterment, or any other number of robo investors. I don’t have all my money in wealthfront but I have a healthy little chunk and they do tax loss harvesting as well as single stock investing once you get above a certain threshold. It’s basically a after tax 401k with active management. The fee is .25%, so automatically half of .5%. most of my money is with fidelity and they always ask me to consolidate my wealthfront account into fidelity, when I am perfectly happy. Have had my account there since 2015 and while it’s not a world beater it’s doing just fine as part of a get rich slow scheme.
  11. Been pondering one of those for some time, I have a simple Weber kettle and I’d like something a little more flexible and strong in terms of smoking. Can limp along smoking on the kettle with the slow n sear insert but it’s not exactly the same, and the temp bounces around a good bit on me. Any complaints? How’s the smoke flavor? Looks like you got a nice smoke ring on those beefers.
  12. How do you like your primo, is that an XL?
  13. Sorry, I am selling my current residence, to be clear.
  14. Any thoughts on rolling equity from current home into new home and putting down greater than 20% and reducing the loan size, given todays higher rates. I know at 3% the thinking was you’ll be able to do better in the markets. At 6% after tax, does it change the math materially? I wasn’t planning to but it’s an option, and I am open to the collective surlythink opinions of our great unwashed masses here.
  15. Yea, 760-800+ depending on the report. Loan size is 480k (goes a long way in Alabama compared to Denver which we are leaving, corporate relo.) 20% down. No points paid.
  16. I just locked at 5.875 on a 30 year conforming with the opportunity to courtesy adjust one time lower. How did I do? Any input on a one month outlook? Buying in Alabama for those interested parties.
  17. As someone who has worked in a former ussr country for the last five years, that logic sounds exactly right.
  18. I’ve spent the last five years traveling internationally for a living, 22” sympatico spinner and a 40L osprey backpack was good for me. Even spent a year outside the US in those five. People just need to learn to pack light.
  19. I have his book, Guide to Aquatic Trout Foods. Sorry to hear that he has passed on.
  20. Best place to attack airplanes is on the ground. Fuck them up.
  21. Everyone I know who has skied / boarded Japan raves about it. They call it Japow, apparently due to the ocean and moisture patterns it’s like 2-3’ of fresh powder every day.
