  1. On a commuter flight out of SHV a couple of years ago and some jackwad placed his small carry-on in the overhead opposite his seat (not directly above him) in the middle of the bin leaving some space on either side but not large enough to place anything else there. Next older guy comes along and slides the dude’s bag over a bit so that he could put his carry-on up there as well. First dude goes ballistic and launches into a cursing tirade to the old dude about moving his bag. I stand up and tell the first dude to shut up that there are a bunch of women on the flight and I am sure that they do not care to hear such language. Dude had an “oh shit” reaction and shut up immediately. In return I was thanked (verbally) by all of the women (no pics; mostly elderly) on the flight.
  2. Well, crap. I am making my first visit to Vermont in a couple of weeks for some vacation time hiking. I will be staying in the Killington area before driving over to Acadia National Park. My image and expectation is now ruined!!!
  3. This, plus when you are being generous and stop your vehicle to allow someone to walk across and you make eye contact and motion them across and they proceed to walk at the most leisurely slow pace that they can in front of you.
  4. This is my move as well. I also usually stand so that the folks on my row can all exit before I do as well since they are scrambling from a middle or window seat. What also gets to me are the folks that wait to pack all of their crap up once disembarking has started. There are times where they will stand in the aisle, blocking it while they put stuff back into their backpack or other carry-on luggage preventing the rest of the passengers from quickly exiting.
  5. Safaris are awesome and somewhat hard to describe as many people associate a "park" or "reserve" as being fenced in with "tame" animals. Going on a safari is nothing like that or visiting a zoo. I have been to Krueger and Pilanesberg multiple times and it never gets old. Glad you were able to experience it. FYI, I fly out of SHV with a connection in ATL and then a direct flight to JNB all on Delta. Pilanesberg is not too far outside of JNB for a decent countryside drive. I take a commuter flight up to Krueger.
  6. Smart ass This is Surly after all. It would be me or someone else!
  7. This plus driving or riding in a car with a hoodie on.
  8. What events were they in? How did they do?
  9. I fly a lot and most of it is international travel. Based upon my flying status I am usually one of the first to board. I make sure to get my seat and area all set up claiming my space. I closely monitor the seating chart jockeying for the best seating. I always request an aisle seat. If I see that the row that I am sitting in is empty (particularly if it is a middle row) then I will sit in one of the vacant seats adjacent to mine to discourage anyone else doing it in hopes to secure a bit of extra space.
  10. No offense but this reminds me of a childhood neighborhood buddy of mine who was not very athletic. He jumped for every pass that was thrown his way in pickup football games no matter where it was thrown. I guess he thought it made him look more athletic? Narrator: It didn’t.
  11. This. Janet Jackson is asking, “What have you done for me lately?”
  12. My daughter’s experience on campus was the same as mine. She entered in 2010 for the end of Browns run and into Strong’s experiment.
  13. We just missed being on the 40 Acres at the same time. I was a senior in HS in 83. Freshman year was in 1984 at UT. My college roommate and I both graduated from UT in December 1988. We were accused of staying an extra semester just to get another football season in.
  14. My first Texas game was UT vs Rice in 83 when Simmons ripped one off. I was sitting in the upper deck.
  15. Sorry, but I would have to take the butt whipping for Team Surly from Huff because I still think the term is stupid.
  16. This thread is getting the waterworks going at my house.
  17. Band of Brothers. There are multiple times it gets dusty for me. One in particular is when Spears runs through the village that is occupied by the Nazis. As he is running to deliver a message the Nazis look on in disbelief and then start shooting at him. On his return trip the camera angle picks him up running towards you with the battle going on with smoke and flames. An incredible scene. And a total badass move by a badass soldier. Pretty much any scene that shows soldiers going off to war or some patriotic scene. As @AUS-97HORN stated the ending of Saving Private Ryan with Ryan crying at Miller's grave. Like @Chico_SA, the "give'em hell" scene in Glory. The singing of "La Marseillaise" in Casablanca that @Bama Llama stated. Another scene that gets me in the feels every time is in Good Morning Viet Nam when Cronauer is talking to the soldiers from his jeep, while the convoy that the soldiers are in headed to the front, get stuck in a traffic jam. When the traffic jam is finally cleared and on the convoy gets underway again with the soldiers cheering to Cronauer gets to me. Heck, even some of the propaganda type movies (usually musical genre) from the 1940's get to me.
  18. These that are directly behind you in the middle of the tank or on the wall right behind you are a pain to give a courtesy flush while sitting.
  19. OK, SIAP as I have not followed this at all. But now that this is a thing, how distracting is it going to be for the players? It just seems like, at least initially, that many are out trying to leverage the situation already. Do they "hire" someone to do this in its entirety, or is there some "organization" that they can work through independently? So many questions. Is there a Reader's Digest review of all of this here on Surly? Too lazy to sort through the topics.
  20. I hope that he does it ETX style and doesn't get pressured to go a different route.
  21. Are you covertly saying that your daughter is aggy?
  22. Also hate Walmart and other stores that store their carts on grouted tile or other "non-smooth" surfaces. It is hard to tell if you get a wonky cart until you are in the store on the smooth surfaces. Often times I have to turn around and go source a different cart that has decent wheels.
  23. Don't we all?
  24. My GF is a Physical Therapist with 25 years or so of experience. She says to do it now and get a full replacement and not a partial. Do your homework on the doctor and make sure he is top notch. Some doctors only do partials with just the inside part of the knee jacked up. Don’t do that. Go full on.
