  1. Good thing you could afford extra apostrophes.

  3. All of which have real universities with honest intellectual pursuits and athletic programs with actual athletic achievements.
  4. Right back to high school. My binders and notes were full of my lame attempts to draw the VH logo.
  5. For QB draft busts, surely Russell, Leaf, and Akili Smith have to lead the list. Johnny Blow is on the list, but not the biggest bust. For non-QB, Tony Mandarich has to top the list, but Boz, Lawrence Phillips, and Steve Entman are keeping him company. I am surprised (and disappointed) every time the thread gets bumped that it’s not a Deadpool notification.
  6. It can trail the actual β€œwe’re not weird” campaign.
  7. … and then they went to Baylor where they skinned cats and continued their trains.

  10. Can’t surge price someone who never eats there. They were good for a brief window in the 80s but the last time I ate there (at least 15 years ago), the food was the same garbage as any other fast food place. Kind of like Whataburger hasn’t been good for quite some time, even before they buyout. The mass franchising meant they had to go to mass produced, frozen products and the food is just meh.
  11. Go talk to a firefighter about EVs. My son in law is a paramedic/firefighter and he gets really wound up whenever the topic is raised. What he says is that they are almost impossible to extinguish and emit highly toxic fumes during the burning process, requiring firefighters to fully suit up with containment breathing apparatus or potentially be permanently debilitated. Not fun in Texas in the summer. He also says Teslas are the worst because their batteries line a much bigger portion of the car. I’m not personally anti-ev, but I don’t think we’ve really fully appreciated the long-term consequences of the rush to full evs (as opposed to much more sensible hybrids). And yeah, I read the Stephen King book Christine, but never saw the movie. I was freaked out for a long time.
  12. I was pretty fleet of foot growing up. And have been a long distance runner since I was about 5. NNM jr. is also pretty quick. When he was in 8th grade, we lined up on a track. I figured I’d humor him for a few seconds and then re-assert my dominance. As soon as his buddy said β€œgo” I knew something was wrong. Jr. was like a bullet off the line. I gave it my all for about 25 yards but that little sucker was pulling away from me like Usain Bolt would at the paralympics. Fortunately I didn’t pull a hammy, but that was shocking proof that my day in the sun had passed a long time ago. I never challenged him to a footrace again.
  13. The hulk ride in Universal in Orlando makes you empty your pockets. They wand you before they let you board, and will make you turn around and do the walk of shame if you have so much as a key fob in your pocket.
  14. Any video that has that disclaimer immediately has me noping out. Adult language, offensive humor, nudity, fine. But no way I’m watching graphic images from the operating room, any claustrophobic nonsense, snuff videos, or kids being exploited/hurt.
  15. Yes, I go back through CDG on the way back, but to get there I have to go through Reunion, transferring there (I’m departing from Tamatave, not Antananarivo). And I have a transfer at EWR. It’s an even longer trip going back. As to your underlying question, I’m doing this because I want to. It’s a second career for me. 25+ years in O&G gave me the ability to do something else in the back end. So I’m working for a nonprofit that presently has activities in Mada. I’m in Tana because I’m negotiating with the government. We work in inconvenient places because that’s where the need is. My travel isn’t always as direct or as posh as it was in O&G, but I’m spending donor dollars, not corporate bucks. And I’m ok with that.
  16. ETX(home)β€”>DFW 3 hours (including airport time) DFWβ€”>IST 12 hours IST layover (one of the best lounges anywhere): 12 hours ISTβ€”>TNR 14 hours (including stopover in Mauritius) TNRβ€”>hotel: 1 hour. Turkish air is much better than the US carriers. Same with any of the Asian carriers.
  17. I was in the Istanbul airport. 10 hour layover in the middle of a 42-hour trip.
