  1. Not sure I agree with that, but it gets philosophical.
  2. The actual performance, the conductor is nearly irrelevant. But sports analogy, he's the coach, and movie analogy he's the director. The entire interpretation of the piece is his vision.
  3. High end dining in Taiwan might be even worse for needing to book wayyyy in advance or have the right friends. There've been quite a few Asia Top50 in Taiwan last couple years, and they're very difficult to get a seat at. I'm with you though, I see no reason to waste a meal at "fine dining" in Taiwan when I'm guaranteed a more satisfying meal at street level.
  4. Do any stocks really have value long term at current valuations??
  5. After having lived with multiple bidets with remote controls, I will never buy remote control bidets again. Hard mounted permanent control buttons never run out of batteries or go missing or get dropped in the toilet by a prankster.
  6. Go watch the front door ceremony at opening of any department store there.
  7. I love Mad Max and thought the movie was amazing, but this is pretty "meh" so far. Will see it anyways.
  8. Both. Fly to Taipei a couple days early before the cruise, then train to Tokyo and stay a few days extra before flying back to US after. I'm biased, but Taipei is a fantastic city and the food is much more diverse in Taiwan.
  9. My cost basis is around $11, so wake me up when we hit 10.
  10. This is on you. I'm fairly tech adept and I also think using a Mac is a frustrating experience.
  11. Toto. The Japanese know their shit.
  12. Not the asshole, just dumb for waiting. They'll bring you your bags if they find them, never wait for lost luggage.
  13. The new books...are not great. Read them if you're a huge fan. Don't read them otherwise, don't sully the memory.
  14. Mmmmm grass. Visually just wonderful. The choice to use infrared was masterful, the bubble fireworks were awesome. Lot of simplifications from the book, and I don't disagree with them. The book contains so much complexity and world building that would take hours and hours to convey in a movie, and bore the hell out of any non-bookfags in doing so. I absolutely love that Dune as a story is getting so much more public exposure and is succeeding in entertainment media with these movies. While I dislike many of the changes, I fully support them and am incredibly happy that the movies are so successful with such a large audience. I want as many people to know the Dune story and understand the greatness of the books as possible. That said, this is one of my favorite books, and here's random bookfaggery. Warning, spoilers and bookfaggery, do not click: Please don't take this wrong. I love the books, I like the movies, and I love that the movies are successful and support all the compromises needed to make them successful in mass market.
  15. This. They and you are genuinely lucky one didn't blow out, doubly so that one didn't blow out with someone in close proximity. I'd go back and either go off on them or politely inform them, that was a major safety issue. The manager needs to know this is happening.
  16. United is such a crap experience.
  17. Please cast Angela White.
  18. Put your current book on the bookshelf. Take Dune off the bookshelf. Read.
  19. I have some oil and air filters left over. You plan on keeping it long? (I miss mine, such a fun car.)
