  1. Doubt he’s talking about the players. Basketball has been well supported for many years by some very wealthy boosters.
  2. Venetian, Phoenix, Roosevelt’s, Lisabella’s, and maybe Black Marlin. Nobody seems to know Shorty’s timeline but from driving by I’d guess sometime this month. So only like 3 months behind schedule.
  3. To me Venetian is the best restaurant here by far, but there is no way you’ll be able to get in tonight. Heck these days it’s fully booked even during the week. Roosevelt’s is hit and miss lately. They might have an opening though at the new bar attached to it called 1886. They serve a limited menu from the Roosevelt’s kitchen. Basically though on weekends now you are fucked for dining out without a reservation. Wherever you go, go early - like 4:45. Good luck.
  4. This is a good idea as it’s one of the few places you can make a reservation. If it’s for tonight though he’s probably SOL, they are likely full. Pretty much all the restaurants are running at least a 2 hour wait for larger parties on the weekends.
  5. The new owners took over months back. Same name and I think same menu although I never go there so not sure.
  6. Passed by the location today on the way back from the beach. It’s called Bier Haus. Looks like they have one other location in Lubbock. And I had forgotten, but they also bought Spaghetti Works awhile back.
  7. Not sure the wakes have much to do with it if you are talking about the handful of slips between Clines and Baytree. My guess is a lot of those boats didn’t come back after Harvey or moved to city marina. Island Moorings is only 20% full too - their problem is pricing and nobody trusts that the channel to get to the ship channel will stay dredged. As for the 2nd question Port A is developing so fast I don’t think any development on N Padre will impact Port A at all. I saw the name a few weeks ago but can’t remember
  8. Yeah the owner of Shell’s is retired. She said it had been coming for awhile and it sucks because we desperately need more good restaurants. The new owner is putting in a burgers and beer type place there. I think they have other locations in Texas. It’s not at all what we need.
  9. Just a cool shot my girlfriend took one night walking back to the boat after dinner. Had this blown up and put on metal and it turned out great.
  10. Hard to say. The fishing is as good or better than its ever been, but part of that is the increased efficiency and technology of boats and tackle and techniques. To really understand billfish populations we would need accurate commercial fishing data which we never had in the past and still don’t have. The conservation issue means that almost all recreationally caught billfish are released. The problem has been and always will be on the commercial side.
  11. Nice Smooth Move t-shirt. I’m not sure what the mates are going to do for clothes since it seems like every one in North America had 2 or 3 of them.
  12. Good luck. I just drove down the beach and it is flat calm. Y’all should have a great trip.
  13. There was a 14 foot hammerhead caught 2 weeks ago.
  14. Lol there is no way they put 1800 horsepower on the back of a 30 foot boat. Scout makes some models in the mid 40’s and maybe even a 50 footer. It’s still fucking stupid. Cool boat though.
  15. I live in Port Aransas, so yes I’m pretty familiar with the stuff.
  16. Those are blackfin tuna you caught. The giant tuna are bluefin - they average 600 pounds or more and are only caught when they spawn here in the gulf late March through mid May. They are 100+ miles out and take very heavy tackle if you want any chance of getting them to the boat. The gulf wide quota is roughly 10 fish per year.
  17. Floridians and the tourists seem like a bunch of pussies. It’s seaweed. Can it get bad? Sure, but it’s not going to ruin a vacation.
  18. There is pretty much nothing in Puerto Jimenez itself but it has access to good fishing out of there or Golfito. Also some world class surfing nearby. The draw down there is Corcovado National Park which is absolutely amazing. Ive spent a ton of time in Golfito but I’ve only flown through Puerto Jimenez. The flight from SJO stops there before flying across the Golfo Dulce on the way to Golfito. It’s a 3 minute flight.
  19. That’s pretty true on the weekends. Weekdays are great though.
  20. Memorial Day. Then it gets really bad right before July 4th and stays very crowded through mid August or whenever school starts back up.
  21. You can target them in April and May. They are here spawning. But the quota is only 6 or so fish per year so unless you catch one of the first ones you have to let them go. They are fishing for them 100+ miles out.
  22. They fought it for 8 hours or so. Normally wouldn’t take nearly that long because they are targeting bluefin on really heavy tackle, but that one died on the line deep down. When that happens it’s a bitch to get them in.
  23. Those are 2 different fish. First picture was 2 years ago caught by friends of mine and is the state record. Second and third pictures are from a fish caught last week on a party boat out of dolphin docks. While still a massive tuna it was 200 pounds less than the state record.
  24. Quepos, Costa Rica. Double Hook Sports Bar @Marina Pez Vela 🤘 Y’all have fun.
  25. I’ve fished a ton this trip. Headed out again in the morning and fishing 2 days then a few days off and then a few more days of fishing before I head home. Can’t believe I’ve already been down here almost 3 months.
