Texas 44 Bible thumping rapists 13 216

I guess my dream of the first team ever doing good enough to get the second string QB some meaningful snaps simply is never meant to be. I totally understand a bit of a letdown after a big win like Alabama. But damn, what does it take for these guys to get a killer instinct? I mean fuck, Wyoming beat Tech last week, and they can't execute worth a fuck on offense for 3 quarters? I loved getting Byron Murphy a TD. By why the fuck are we NEEDING to use a trick play to score? We better get our shit together, because OU has spoiler revenge on their minds. Just overall disappointed in the performance, after players only meetings and "great practices." Nice to see we could finally get our shit together for the 4th quarter. But that's 7 shit quarters and 5 great quarters, if anyone is counting. And championship teams don't usually have that sort of ratio. Hopefully this game scared the shit out of them and they take it to heart. Or OU, Tech or somebody else is gonna make us pay for a general lack on intensity.

These where two things cooked recently- Whipped Feta with lemon zest and pistachio, with roasted vegetables and warm pita bread. Iw as our Appetizer before the Alabama game. Second is something I sort of did by accident. I bought some nice looking barramundi skin on filets at Costco, think maybe I will cook them on the grill and the skin wouold help hold them together, Then searched Barramundi with skin on, and crispy skin fish popped up. SO I thought WTF I'll try it, something new! Well damned if it didn't turn out great! Basically it's like blackening, dry the fish out, smoking pan, and give the fish a little press down to make sure all the skin is in contact with the pan. Blistered the asparagus in a hot pan with a little butter,, and made lemon butter tarragon sauce with some capers using the fish pan drippings. I put the sauce on the side to keep the skin crispy. It was fucking delicious. And Barramundi is sustainable and affordable.

UAW Strike / Absurd Executive Compensation discussion

Fit Lump much? -
Yep! Can't wait! The only thing I don't like about the new Jetty is that I used to be able to just back up to the bulkhead and drop a bucket to get fresh water, and just hang by the truck waiting for come mullet to roll through. Made it easy peasy to get bait. Still a good spot, but it was Sooooo easy before. Nothing better than burnt orange dawn fishing, that converts seamlessly into drinking pre-game for OU. Can't wait! Did I already say that?

You might look at some of the gel packs that a lot of distance athletes use to put in digestible calories while they are competing. There are multiple brands and flavors, you can likely get an assortment to try at your local bike shop. But designed to be tolerable on the stomach from what I can tell. They have with and without caffine, but like 100 calories an ounce. my favorite by far Hang in there and keep searching for what will work calorie wise!

UAW Strike / Absurd Executive Compensation discussion
horn4life replied to horn4life's topic in Cloak Room
I think the thing that the union guys themselves see is, they agreed to work for less to make sure the company could survive (keeping their jobs allowed them to survive as well). But the reasoning from management was, exactly that we can't operate without you putting some skin in the game. If you took a 20% below market rate to save the company for 3 years, then does a 30+ percent raise seem outlandish? Or should they receive a lump sum for the amounts they saved the automaker with, via back dated stock options? Sort of like the board gives themselves "for their salary sacrifices?" In all honestly that might be the fairest way to reward the workers, for the prior salary sacrifices. IN other words, it's unfair to look at worker demands only going forward, without considering prior sacrifices. Still 200-1 or 300-1 CEO compensation multiples is really Un-American from a fairness perspective. From any publicly traded corp. -
For some reason if you are on your computer you look out and there are no reservations in sight. i believe this is an Open Table software issue related to likely pushing folks into the phone app? Or Google deviousness? Anyhow my daughter actually found it. But bottom line is you can find open reservations on the phone app when you see nothing on your computer screen. You still needed to look a month out to get a good time slot if you were particular. Apparently you can also waitlist somehow. I must say it was fucking awesome in the old days when the place first opened to wait at the door, grab a seat at the bar and enjoy some of the finest happy hour discounted food around. Hell half the entertainment was about 2/3 through munching down, the positioning and posturing of the patrons desperate to get your seats at the bar! Ahh, the good old days.

I come down somewhere in between on the demands and the offers. I am hoping that this can be resolved relatively quickly or it's going to not take long to do damage to suppliers to the Big 3. But the one thing that always sticks in my craw, with virtually every single publicly traded company. The compensation for the CEO's is far, far beyond their value. A good friend of mine's Dad was at one point one of the top 50 salary Corporate officers in Houston in the lates 70's and 80's. He laughs that he would be making well over $100 million a year now for the exact same job. He has stated that the pay is simply much greater than the replacement value. In essence the compensation is grossly inflated when you compare the value in actual product production from eliminating line workers of equivalent salary value. I also think that 32 hours of work for 40 hour pay, isn't a great look. But that the 20% salary increase that would establish is not completely ridiculous when you look at the accommodations labor took to help the companies in covid and beyond. When you look at who sacrificed and who has benefitted, from a math/productivity perspective the workers have gotten basically sort of screwed. When compared to the CEO's compensation? You make the call there. In the end these things always need to come down to a compromise. Just opening a discussion.

Fuck ME!!! Finally figured out the Open Table (use your app not computer) hack, and got some reservations after passing two weeks ago. Fuck, fuck, fuck... Was looking forward to going more often again. I just looked on their website and it said replacing ductwork. I guess since you could always smell the smoke a little anyhow... 😉

4.1M Earthquake in Falls City/Karnes County
horn4life replied to Wilcox Cummingtonite's topic in Daily Texan
When you drive through and see the endless well flares of operating wells that would not be profitable prior to fracking. I would not be surprised to find in time that it is a contributory factor. I also thought if it was category 10+ how many two story buildings are there even in the area at risk? -
Reading though this thread reminded me of a moment years ago, where Bucky Goldbolt and Erin Hogan, were saying something about how Pat Green was playing in Austin one afternoon and it sort of pissed me off them pushing him. So I called in to the show back when they were on KVET (right?). And said, " If you want to see Pat Green this weekend, you should go see the original instead! Robert Earl Keen is playing in Gruene Hall this weekend!" They both start talking about REK for a couple minutes... still makes me smile thinking of changing that conversation.

Hell I loved the shit out of Charlie Robison, and didn't honestly know it was him. I am also a lot more on the rock side, but love a well written song that truly paints a picture. "My Hometown" is that sort of song, a snapshot of Texas Americana. Hell I had him and Bruce sort of confused because I sort of learned about Bruce via the Dixie Chick's "Travelin' Soldier" where I knew the songwriters cash came rolling in like a freight train and then shut off. I really wish I had taken time to see him, but those were the lost years for me of very young children. But like jimmy jazz said regarding "and we spend it all on pot" line was epic. I am going to do a lot more exploring of his music, as I have learned more about him, I only like him more. There was a blurb in the Houston Chronicle on him that referred back to a 2001 article written by Andy Langer. Apparently he had a vocal chord injury that basically ended his career. It's a VERY LONG read, but if you haven't read it and enjoyed his music take a few minutes. It'll make you love him even more Charlie Robison says, "Fuck everybody!" Hard to get more outlaw than this- Love that level of truly not giving a fuck! Charlie Robison touched me to the core with a single song, that I didn't even attach his name to until after his passing. I hope he found a nice honky tonk to sing in again up there...

just in case you guys thought I was nuts in cooking a Gator before our Florida game. It was officially sanctioned by Alabama prior to this weeks game with USF. So maybe I'm not crazy! Damn is gonna be more fun getting drunk as fuck with a whole gator on a plate behind me!

Kenny Paxton/Dave P's Impeachment Game Day Thread
horn4life replied to atomheartbevo's topic in Cloak Room
The bottom line is this whole trial is nothing more than an exercise to provide cover to avoid doing the right and moral thing. Which sadly applies to nearly every aspect of the Republican party these days. Or more accurately to provide an opportunity to condemn Paxton as an immoral scumbag that abused the power of his office in a criminal manner! But I want to see him get the opportunity to do the same thing again! The single biggest problem with the Republican party nationally, locally and at the state level, is that Republican voters no longer have any standard of accountability for their elected representatives. The tribal logic that the most corrupt republican in better than any church going, honest democrat, is the current mindset. Thus there is virtually no punishment mechanism for pushing bad republican representatives out of office. Combine that with gerrymandered safe districts? And that is how you end up with the House of Representatives able to be controlled by the children's caucus... -
One time I was in a hurry and there were just too damn many folks clogging (pun intended) the area, so I grabbed some Kirkland. When I got home the wife was pissed, that I did not get the Charmin. I lied and said, they for some reason they did not have any in stock. Only lie I've told her in a long time. I won't do either again!

You might be able to do OK in that stripes location, but where the hell are folks gonna park? What allows Beach Street to survive is all the parking around the baseball field that is part of the school's parking. Maybe slap a big deck on top of that thing to expand the seating footprint? I can't wait to get back down in October! And I second justhookit's opinion of the food at Stingrays. It's serviceable, but I can't think of a single item that would make you want to return, other than a channel you cannot get to see a game on. I wish I simply did not have so much BS going on right now, as I look at the surf cams nearly every day, and the blue water is finally coming in all the way to the surf occasionally. What I am starting to wonder about is whether with the markedly warmer water this year, how long into November will the great fishing last? I can absolutely say that OU weekend is and always has been one of the best weekends to be in Port A. We have been there for a couple decades now, and when the kids were with us, having that Monday school holiday made it awesome for a long weekend with the kiddos. That one weekend is sort of the last surge of crowds, because of that three day weekend with the kiddos. I am guessing a 2:30 kick off this year. PS- here is a good link to several of the beach/surf cams. https://www.portaransas-texas.com/condo-rentals/port-aransas-surf-camera/
