  1. I think in the Planes, Trains, & Automobiles thread that pops up every fall there's either an article or a video interview where someone close to the movie (maybe even Steve Martin) talks about how Candy (a tortured soul himself) was most accurately portrayed as the real John Candy in PTA through Del Griffith. I show that movie in class to my juniors every November as a non-traditional way to engage them to talk about the subjects of empathy, compassion, and identity (it's a philosophy/morality class). It's one of my favorite days of the year when we watch the end of the movie and Neal listens to Del's monologue about Marie having passed. It's the look on their faces when they piece it all together and everything makes sense.
  2. I love Marie Sharps. Top 3 brands for me. Grabbed two bottles of it to restock (Hab and Garlic) at Kroger yesterday. It's surprisingly easy to get at our Kroger - almost always on the shelves. I love the original and the unique flavor it has with the carrots. Oh, and fuck Melinda's.\
  3. All of these chucklefucks are idiots, but a 40yo fighting with a bunch of kids? SMGDH.
  4. Never had Salmorejo before. Made it a couple nights ago. Holy shit, what a great summer soup. Served with some Spanish ham and a chopped up hardboiled egg. Last night, had it for leftovers and added in some scorpion pepper chili powder and topped with some crumbled goat cheese... also slammed. I really liked the added heat to the dish. Oh, and I didn't bother peeling the tomatoes. Still silky smooth. Used THIS RECIPE as my starting point. No plum tomatoes at my grocery store, so went with a mixture of heirloom and Roma that they did have. Just looked for the freshest ripe ones I could find.
  5. He should add in "quality losses" too.

  7. I love this sauce and go through a bottle every couple months. It can be tough to find, but currently 3-pack on amazon is like $16. It's not has hot as a habanero sauce, but the flavor is amazing. I'll eat it on just about anything, sometimes just covering a cracker or a chip with it.
  8. Bruin, here are a few things I'd suggest that haven't been mentioned yet: Bottleworks just northeast of downtown on Mass Ave is a cool revamped area repurposing the Coke bottling factory. There's one place there called the Garage that has a dozen or more food options. There are other cool bar and restaurant options up that area, too. Good place to walk around. Depending on age of your son, the Indianapolis Children's Museum is the largest in the nation. Lots of good exhibits and stuff to do. If he's a bit older and y'all are into history the Indiana State Museum is a good place, plus you can get your parking validated when you go in the museum and only pay $4 to park in downtown. Indianapolis has the most war memorials of any city in the nation other than DC. The best one is the Indiana War Memorial & Museum just north of downtown. Amazing history and a collection you could take hours exploring; it's also a really cool building. I'd prioritize the War Memorial over the State Museum. Hotels - other than the previously mentioned JW, my favorite hotels in downtown are Bottleworks Hotel and also the Alexander. Not to discredit St Elmo's but there are a good number of downtown restaurants that are significantly better than StE. If y'all have never had the shrimp cocktail, go to StE's partner restaurant next door - Harry & Izzy's , sit at the bar and order a couple drinks and the shrimp. Bluebeard - $1 oysters on Sundays. Livery - my favorite place Favorite dishes: Tuna tostada, watermelon aguachile salad, skirt steak. Beholder Vida Milktooth If you want a good breaded pork tenderloin sandwich, go 15 mins north of downtown, there are two in Broad Ripple: The Pawn Shop - a true dive bar, loin is only $7. My favorite tenderloin in the city. Plump's Last Shot - lots of old basketball memoribilia on the walls, a cool history of high school and college basketball in the Hoosier state. There is no good Italian place in town, but we do have some really good pizza, surprisingly. On Mass Ave there is Goodfellas (NY style). Portnoy gave it an 8.2 in his review. Just outside downtown is Sam's Square Pie that does Detroit style and is absolutely fantastic. Futuro, also just outside downtown offers both Detroit style and Chicago tavern style. Get the tavern style there and the Detroit at Sam's. If you have the coin to pop on the Indy Car ridealong experience... there really is nothing else like it. I've gotten to do the Nascar experience at Texas Motor Speedway and drive the car, and it doesn't hold a candle to going 200mph flat out at Indy, even if you are just the passenger in a 2-seater. The museum was recently completely redone (its in the infield) and it is pretty awesome. Let me know if you have any other specific questions or want any other recs.
  9. His security job experience could explain access to tactical gear and the car. What a fucked day.
  10. they did say it had the red and blue lights - but don't think if they've said it was marked or not.
  11. manifesto recovered from car with a list of many other lawmakers if i just understood the PD spokesman correctly.
  12. At least Cam brought Blinn a national title.
  13. - Why the fuck did you put Gorgeous George into a bare-knuckle boxing match two days before he had to fight The Bomber? - He was half his size. I didn't expect him to get hurt. - You put the man into a bare-knuckle boxing match. What the fuck did you expect? A grease-down and a shiatsu? - Who took the jam out of your doughnut? - You took the fucking jam out of my doughnut, Tommy. You did. - You said get a good deal. - I fail to recognize the correlation between losing 10 grand, hospitalizing Gorgeous, and a good deal.
  14. Two posts back-to-back that sum up so much of the unwarranted fuckery that goes on in aggy minds of a certain age that makes them think they are god's gift to cfb.
  15. tamu's ban on drag shows was just overturned. i am sure texags is just pleased as peaches... well the yell leaders might actually be.
  16. 100%. My wife repays me by giving me a couple hours reprieve to take a quick nap when driving long trips. And while on any trip - whether we drive or fly - she agrees to not question any plans or restaurant reservations I make.
  17. Potential Jonestown looking scene the next morning, I suspect.
  18. My thought was that aggy had already pissed away their chances of winning (they were one of the 4 or 5 teams being seriously considered for the team title) and took out pig in spite, allowing USC to get their first title since (holy shit) 1972.
  19. Aggy been known to pimp out more than just their trucks...
  20. No kidding. Unless they change the rule somehow we will never get a play as spectacular as this ever again:
  21. I think you mean salet.
  22. Allsup's fried burritos - if I had to guess what he was funneling down his gullet.
  23. Just like a chimpanzee.
