  1. i think you made a good hire. Not hearing much from fan boards. TJ recruited Kyle Hamilton out of Atlanta and got him to come to South Bend IN, now our D anchor. TJ had some disagreements with former ND Star Todd Lyte, which is likely why TL is gone. TJ was in charge of safeties, they played fine. The corners were the problem. So of course we kept the CB coach Mickens and let UT get Joseph. I'm not sure any coaching could have made them fast enough to keep up with Clemson/Bama. Right now everyone in Irishland is gaga that we got Marcus Freeman from U Cincy (LSU wanted him). Mickens worked with Freeman before so mayyybe TJ thought he would be an outsider. As I said not much . Looks like many up and coming assistants are playing on the carousel.
  2. I'm scratching my head too. He coached Kyle Hamilton into a star but ND whiffed on many many CB targets which bit us when we finally played teams that could throw the ball.
  3. From memory it was that Urban was telling recruits not to worry about academics because football players would always pass their classes. You don't have to be angry, maybe Urban didn't know he was clairvoyant.
  4. the stories about Urban Meyer start from when he was an assistant at Notre Dame in the late 90s. Meyer told 'recruiting myths' that went far beyond what the school was comfortable with. Much later players who chose ND over anOSU related that Meyer had told them most ridiculous lies about how horrible UM felt at ND.
  5. I came to laud those Big12 Defenses! Team Stats Oregon Iowa State First downs 17 25 Rushing 4 14 Passing 13 10 Penalty 0 1 Total Net Yards 311 381 Net Yards Rushing 86 228 Rushing Plays 18 56 Average Gain 4.8 4.1 Net Yards Passing 225 153 Att - Comp - Int 28-19-1 29-20-0 Sacked - Yds Lost 1-1 1-3 Gross Yards Passing 226 156 Avg. Yds/Att 8.1 5.4 Does 311 total yards count as a stifling? The turnovers made UO seem much worse. I guess the important stat is 1 2 3 4 Total Oregon (4-3) 7 10 0 0 17 Iowa State (9-3) 7 21 3 3 34
  6. Thank you Texas, you saved Brian Kelly's career!
  7. Seriously it would have been a clash of styles. A&M looks small and fast. Like UNC we tend to stare at speedy running backs in obvious running situations. The Aggie defense looked likewise small and fast. We wouldn't have dropped those sure TD passes because QB Book would never attempt them. instead ND smacks them with 5 yd runs all night, waiting on who would fumble first.
  8. Notre Dame has had some memorable Cotton Bowl clashes with Texas A&M. And we should have had another one. But the dumb playoff needed a #4 team to be the fall guy. ND-A&M would have been just as good a bowl game.
  9. This 4th qtr is like a list of my football pet peeves. Can't stop the run in an obvious running situation. Can't even attempt a pass longer than 10 yards during the 2 minute drill. (UNC went four downs without trying one)
  10. And then UNC throws it short of the sticks? How did Mac Brown last that long?
  11. meh. this is 2012 all over again. That year A&M played OU in the Cotton. OU looked better but completely collapsed in the 2nd half.
  12. Wow, I see why you fired that guy.
  13. UNC drops about 10 points worth of equity and then collapses on a running play.
  14. HCs feel a lot better when the WR drops the deep pass. that way it's not the coach's fault. Unless you ask whether that WR could ever catch it. OMG UNC.
  15. I'm curious how far behinds is my stream. Are they giving up because it's tied at 27?
  16. I've never seen Oregon shut out in a half before. Or smothered in a NY6 bowl.
  17. Well it was a fun dream for both sides. People are paid a lot more than me to hire blue blood coaches. SO while I don't fully understand the Sark hire I won't say Mr CDC was right or wrong. fwiw I don't want Brian Kelly fired but also wouldn't have wept if Texas took him.
  18. And didn't check 1993.
  19. I don't know about UT but we seem to lose a lot of players by the end of fall practices. Especially highly touted skill position types. ND's Oline recruits are a known commodity. A fairly deep talent river from Chicago to New Jersey. They're committing because ND has always been a cultural force, not because they grew up dreaming of playing for Brian Kelly.
  20. I would be happy to say we're still undefeated in the Road Bowl. I might say unbeaten in the real Rose Bowl.
  21. Damn, I forgot you boys won two Rose Bowls recently.
  22. The Admissions office has the power to stop the recruitment of any individual prospect. Oddly enough it had not been a big problem with the offensive skill positions but mostly on the defensive line. That's why Kelly eventually switched to a 4-3 because he couldn't reliably get nosetackles.
  23. The only #4 teams to play competitive games in the CFP were named Ohio State and Alabama. It's not the PC's fault that all the talent is in the hands of 4 programs.
  24. Also not to beat the dead 🐎. But our current starting WR corps is a slow sr possession WR, a converted qb, and a transfer from Northwestern. Kelly didn't run this offense when he had Miles Boykin (3rd rd) and Chase Claypool (2nd rd) split out in 2017.
