  1. But don't you think it wouldn't be stigmatized if it didn't suck so much? If it took half the time to get downtown than it does sitting in a car, I'm pretty sure folks would stop caring how poor they look passing all the schmucks in traffic.
  2. sounds like both of those situations would be solved if there was actually BRT
  3. that was a fun 40 minutes heading down SH 130 when that storm came through. Very heavy wind and rain. Though some people made it more dangerous by going 30 mph when 60 was more than slow enough
  4. How often are you talking to people about riding buses? Even if your anecdotal evidence is true and only poor people rode the bus, well, we have plenty of those who need getting around. I’m guessing the bottom 25% wouldn’t mind not having to be so car dependent to free up some money tied up in vehicle expenses. Or are you saying they’re too proud to admit they’re poor despite working at McDonald’s? Also, did you just call the bicycle, the most individualistic means of transportation possible, mass transit?
  5. One maybe two of those are still there…
  6. Yep, and these are going to be the real casualties of AI. I've never heard anybody who has had to work with Indian SWE/IT teams come away happy, myself included. Most of the time it is tearing-your-hair-out frustration.
  7. I don't understand this position. Are they working with pen and paper? Are their tasks not being done via software with easily reviewable metrics? I manage a team at a software company, all of whom wfh, and there is never a question of who is doing their work or not. Just look at the numbers.
  8. sounds like you just work at a company full of retards (what does that say about you)
  9. hey, I don't want anyone to die. But I'd rather it be politicians than innocent folks at the mall or kids in a school. Kind of in a 'the end justifies the means' situation at this point.
  10. Man, I know a lot can change but I don't see how either Worthy or Ewers are 1st round picks. Especially Worthy. I guess the hope is he is like Devonta Smith but that feels almost like the exception that proves the rule.
  11. The thread title takes on a new meaning
  12. i've heard people throw out the possibility of turning vacant office space into residential units. Is that at all actually feasible? Seems like an easy way to pivot, but I'm sure there are a lot of barriers I'm unaware of.
  13. No longer feasible for the majority of Americans. A house in 1983 was 3x annual income, now its 5+
  14. you're just jealous you didn't think of it first
  15. WTF? I have no idea who Sam Lin is. Stick to digging up dollar menu deals, you weird fuck
  16. He's got some great tips on how to save a few bucks in the Wendy's drive thru. Maybe we should take him seriously?
  17. I'm sure the SF leadership will be along shortly blaming him for not walking around with his pockets turned out

    Fat People

As someone who was a fat kid, lost a lot of weight in college and slowly gained it all back to being 3 bills, I see both sides here. Can I blame society/government for allowing there to be so many hidden calories and downright poison in our food? Sure. Can I blame my parents for ingraining that I HAVE to eat everything on my plate when I was a kid? Maybe. Can I lament that I used to walk and have time to play sports so much more than I do now with my wfh job? Yes. But ultimately, as a grown man the buck stops with me. If I want to get back down to a good weight (I probably won't ever be sub 200 but I'd be over the moon with 225) I am going to have to stop eating so much and start moving around a lot more. I've already cleaned up my diet considerably with the help of my wife (she is 120 lbs and very health conscious) but I just eat too much. I'm sure my brain has been wired to not feel satiated, but I can just get used to it. I have before. Ultimately my weight is my responsibility. But I also would never belittle anyone for getting surgery or using medications (though the latter seems like way too much of a gray area to do willy nilly), and I don't think anybody has really done that in this thread. I will deride people who don't even give an effort and say they can't do anything about it, which is the majority of fat people in the US.
  19. Sometimes I feel like there are only about 5-10 topics discussed on this forum
  20. if you're noticing a 1.5% increase in black people you might be somebody who 'notices' a lot of things
