  1. Rats jumping off the bayou bengal ship... Bob Diaco exiting LSU to join Belichick's Tar Heels staff John Brice Jan 19, 2025 Unsurprisingly, Bill Belichick is taking a measured, methodical approach to assembling his inaugural North Carolina and first-ever collegiate coaching staff. He's blending NFL and collegiate experience. Now, he's poised to add one of college football's veteran-most defensive assistants, FootballScoop has learned. Sources tell FootballScoop that longtime defensive coach Bob Diaco is joining Belichick's Tar Heels staff as an assistant coach on the defensive side of the ball. Bill Belichick reportedly tabs veteran SEC assistant as new offensive line coachBill Belichick reportedly tabs veteran SEC assistant as new offensive line coach For the past two years, Diaco has served on Brian Kelly's LSU staff; it was under Kelly a dozen years ago that Diaco earned distinction as college football's top assistant coach when he won the Broyles Award for his work coordinating Notre Dame's defense in the 2012-13 season. Diaco has served as a defensive coordinator at Cincinnati, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Purdue; additionally, he had a brief, three-year stint as head coach at UConn. Additionally, Diaco has worked collegiately at his alma mater, Iowa, as well as Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan and Virginia, among other stops; he coached professionally earlier this decade as the defensive line coach for the New Jersey Generals. North Carolina hired Belichick late last month after it forced Mack Brown to step down from the program. The Tar Heels are set to begin the Belichick era Aug. 30 at home against TCU. UNC has additional non-conference games against Charlotte, FCS program Richmond and UCF before transitioning into ACC play.
  2. Sources: 1 of college football's youngest coordinators is headed to Ole Miss Dane Stevens set to reunite with Lane Kiffin, Charlie Weis Jr. in key passing game role John Brice 7 hours ago Dane Stevens already had work for the Ole Miss Rebels and USC Trojans on his resumè. The 28-year-old Marietta, Georgia, native added offensive play-caller to his growing list of accomplishments this past season when he triggered the offense for West Georgia. Now, multiple sources tell FootballScoop, Stevens is set for a return to The Grove. Stevens is returning to Ole Miss as a passing game specialist for head coach Lane Kiffin and offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr., FootballScoop has learned. The move to Stevens's home-away-from-home comes just a year following his exit from Ole Miss to become West Georgia's and coach Joel Taylor's first-ever offensive coordinator at the FCS level. The result of Stevens calling plays for West Georgia amidst its transition from NCAA Division II into full FCS participation? At nearly 260 passing yards per game and more than 30 points per game, the Wolves would have been in the top 20 and top 30, respectively, in passing and scoring offense. Despite the uptick in competition, the West Georgia offense boosted its passing offense by roughly 80 yards per game over the 2023 campaign and also elevated its scoring offense by three points per game. West Georgia won four games in Taylor's first year and its first as an FCS competitor, including a stunning, season-opening upset of perennial Southern Conference and FCS Playoffs contender Samford. Changes within the last year to the NCAA rules regarding staffers being able to coach on the practice field -- and not just the 10 assistant coaches -- also mean that Stevens will not only be a passing game specialist for the Rebels but continue to hone his coaching techniques. Kiffin guided the Rebels to a second-straight 10-win season for the first time in school history. Ole Miss is scheduled to open its 2025 season at home against FBS program Georgia State before diving directly into SEC play with back-to-back league tilts at Kentucky and home against Arkansas. The Rebels also face Tulane and Washington State in non-conference play in addition to further SEC contests against LSU, Georgia and Oklahoma among others.

  6. Since we're recapping... Feb 2024 Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian responded to last week’s departure of Director of Player Personnel Billy Glasscock to the Ole Miss Rebels as the General Manager for Lane Kiffin by making four promotions on his support staff, the school announced on Tuesday. The headline is the promotion of Brandon Harris into the newly-created General Manager role. Considered a rising star in the industry, Harris was the Director of Recruiting for nearly three years after assuming the role shortly after Sarkisian arrived on the Forty Acres, making enough of an impact that Texas sent him on the recruiting trail following the departure of defensive line coach Bo Davis in January. Harris has been at Texas since 2019 after playing quarterback for LSU and North Carolina and received his previous promotion shortly before interviewing with the Los Angeles Rams for an assistant quarterbacks coach role. https://www.burntorangenation.com/2024/2/6/24064283/texas-longhorns-support-staff-brandon-harris-billy-glasscock https://www.on3.com/teams/texas-longhorns/news/steve-sarkisian-creates-general-manager-position-installs-rockstar-brandon-harris-in-the-role/
  7. NORMAN — Curtis Lofton is stepping down as Oklahoma football general manager, he announced Thursday, after less than a year in the role. Lofton wrote in a Facebook post his last day will be Feb. 1 and he's planning to pursue ministry. "I want to take this moment to thank Athletic Director Joe Castiglione, President Joe Harroz and Head Coach Brent Venables for their unwavering support, leadership and guidance," Lofton wrote. "They've been instrumental in shaping my journey, and I am forever grateful for their influence in my life." Lofton was officially named OU's general manager in June, helping lead the Sooners into a new era of college athletics. The Sooners' former assistant general manager, Chuck Lillie, left to become West Virginia's general manager on Jan. 3. OU announced a new football recruiting structure in July, which included Lillie, Lofton and a partnership with former Philadelphia Eagles Vice President of Football Administration Jake Rosenberg. OU also announced a partnership with former AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson in December, rounding out "a more expansive general manager function," Castiglione said. Stephenson is serving as executive adviser to Harroz and Castiglione without a salary. "It's not about the result; it's about the process — the journey," Lofton wrote. "Showing up every single day, with discipline and commitment — even when it's hard, even when no one's watching. But that commitment can only happen when you're doing something you love. "In saying that, I have decided to step away from being the General Manager at OU." Prior to being named the Sooners' GM, Lofton was the program's Director of SOUL Mission, serving as a mentor, role model and advocate for OU football players. Lofton was a standout linebacker at OU from 2005-07. Lofton also enjoyed an eight-year pro career with the Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints and Oakland Raiders. OU finished with a 6-7 record and a loss to Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl in 2024. The program is in the midst of a defensive coordinator search and a restructuring of its front office
  8. Is Brandon Harris a bad person? There's been multiple examples criticizing Sark losing Glasscock to Ole Miss and that Brandon Harris is a less competent GM. Cross-posting recent ctj comments on Brandon Harris: Harris is a laconic yes-man who’s constantly more reactive than proactive. He’s bailed out by a HC who is something of a control-freak when it comes to roster management and oversees in great detail that issue on behalf of Harris - when he has the time. He’s also regularly bailed out by the NIL machine, even as he’s talked shit about it unwittingly to people involved with it. The latest experience with this guy was the program being flat-footed on transfer risk coming out of the Cotton Bowl. Everyone was left scrambling when over 30 guys came forward with demands Unacceptable. As SC alluded to, not everyone in the coach’s offices thinks he’s the cat’s meow as he’s frequently seen playing favorites. Finally, Harris himself is allegedly a leak to OB and probably passed those thoughts on himself in order to ensure it’s part of the dialogue.
  9. Nah... Paul Lynde
