  1. Last line of Yea, Alabama!”: ”You’re Dixie’s football pride, Crimson Tide!” Rascist enough? I still want to know if LHB is coming, full horde or traveling 100 or what.
  2. This time last year my people were clutching pearls and whining because the MDB (admin dinks) took a pass on the game, unhappy with not being on field level. Those decisions were made by eedjit bean counters. Someone tell me what the Texas band is doing, i.e., numbers traveling, size of giant drum traveling, other details and whatnot. Game night is less than a month away, motherfuckers! Here’s to another slobber knocking, this time out in our okry patch (credit DKR). No injuries and no bad no calls this time. Also send pics of this years chaps babes. Any pics.
  3. (Billy Crystal old guy voice with the constant lip smacking and phlegmy cough): I’ll be 72 in a week. Apple fritter? Ya wanna talk apple fritter? When we were first married living in Houston we used to go to Moeller’s Bakery in the Village by Rice. Best fuckin apple fritters! Petit fours were next best. Gang of sweet fat pink faced Pennsyvania Dutch ladies behind the counters. When you get old the short term memory starts to go but the old stuff - ahh, some of it you can almost taste!
  4. This thread should be ashamed for not mentioning Steve Buscemi yet. Blood has been shed, Jerry. So, you got Jose Feliciano here. Not exactly chopped liver, huh? Fargo / Ghost World / Con Air / just scratch the surface.
  5. Watched the Little Richard biopic last night. Excellent vintage images and sounds, well edited. His big mistake was breaking his original contract to go to the seminary. He kissed a zillion dollars of royalties goodbye. Shit ain’t fair but there it is. Still and all he was an absolute icon and lived to be 88. Well worth the watch.
  6. This Bama fan thought GP did a damn good job getting the Horns D ready to and they did disrupt our offense play in play out. Some iffy/shitty calls and a gut check drive by B Young were the wafer-thin margin. SEC refs should be a slight improvement on 9/9 but don’t count on it. Bama QB situation is not good. All off season to prepare. Advantage to GP and the Horns when Bama has the ball.
  7. True dat but the wait will be in proportion to the time of morning. If you’re up early, it’s worth a try. City Cafe is excellent, and many more tables.
  8. One more word about a damn good breakfast. This morning in AL.com, The Waysider was named #1 in Alabama for breakfast. Here's the squib: 1. The Historic Waysider, Tuscaloosa 1512 Greensboro Ave., Tuscaloosa; www.facebook.com/TheWaysider. You don’t have to be a fan of the Crimson Tide to appreciate breakfast at The Historic Waysider Restaurant, but it doesn’t hurt. Even the exterior of the cozy, 52-seat café on Tuscaloosa’s Greensboro Avenue is painted what owner Linda Smelley affectionately calls “Mal Moore red,” a reference to the late Alabama player, coach and athletics director who ate at the Waysider so often that Smelley sometimes put him to work as a greeter. A T-Town tradition for more than 70 years, the Waysider is also home to one of the heartiest breakfasts in the South, with steak and eggs, country ham and red-eye gravy, bottomless cups of coffee, and, on game-day weekends, elephant-shaped pancakes for the kids. Order this: Most orders come with the Waysider’s famous made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuits, but they’re so addictive, that you may need to get an extra serving for the table.
  9. Here is where the animated gif of the monster from Young Frankenstein cutting his eyes at the camera, slowly extending his tongue and moaning “Mmeuuuungh” goes.
  10. For anyone into consumption of food before noon, Rama Jama’s at the SW corner of BDS, is pretty good but the best breakfast spot is the Waysider on Greensboro Ave at 15th St for a good Southern meal.
  11. I looked it up. 1980 at Aggieland. Final Rice 10 - A&M 6. Trailing at half, no first downs in 2d half. Rice found a way to win. I think Emory Bellard was A&M coach. Can’t remember Owls coach. Classic snagging victory from jaws of defeat game.
  12. Rice beat the Aggies in or about ‘77 AT College Station after trailing at the half WITHOUT making a single first down in the second half. AND the human dressed as an Owl jenked all the Aggie fans during pregame, strolling all around Kyle Field, bending over every 20 yards or so, bending over and flipping up his tail feathers to show this delightful message sewed to the ass of his shorts, in block aggie logo font: EATME The Owl was showered with cups and ice but he strutted proudly, all the way!
  13. Listening to Flags on the Bayou by octogenarian James Lee Burke with an ensemble cast of narrators. So far, excellent. Live me some Burke.
  14. Just listened to audiobook of Elmore Leonard book “Raylan.” Excellent stuff - Crowes, Crowders, other familiar characters from Justified, kidney stealing and selling back to original owners, racehorse owners, gambling chicks, girl gang bank robbers all kinds of crazy shit. Highly recommend. Hope to see this in a Justified flashback one day.
  15. Yer damn skrait, brutha. ”Two riders were approaching, And the wiiind began to howwwllll” Immortal song, man, guitar, production. World without end, Amen.
  16. Tetris Mama Llama, Baby Llama and I really enjoyed it. Baby Llama is a child of the 80s and we played a helluva lot of Zelda, Galaga, Qbert, Tetris, all that jazz. Very clever the way the filmmakers incorporated “primitive” 80s video game graphics and animation into actual images and scenes. The plot (supposedly true) was a ripper. Inspiring, actually.
  17. Semi related - Roger Allam who portrays DI Thursday on Endeavour, plays media mogul Maxwell in Tetris and steals the show, although covered with fake blubber and prosthetics. Didn’t know who the fuck he was. Drove me nuts until I Imdb’d his character. I knew that voice. Always enjoyed the rapport and tension between DI Thursday (Allam) and FS Endeavour (Shaun Evans).
  18. That’s as good as money. Every cent’s accounted for. These are IOUs. Better hang on to that one - $275,000 for the car!
  19. You, sir, are correct. It only seems like five miles. For someone born and raised in Tuscaloosa, my estimate of walking distance was way off. For most game dsys, I agree with your last sentence unless you are somewhere from which you can walk to the game in thirty minutes or less. I have a feeling this game will be a great one. Bama vs Texas = Unpredictable Chaos.
  20. Archibald’s is worth the trip. It’s in Northport, but with kick at six you could justify early afternoon BBQ at Archibalds. The Amtrak depot is five miles from the stadium, most of the way uphill and hot as a sizzling skillet on that day. Good luck finding a ride. Get to the Quad, only a few blocks from the stadium. Drink, eat, bullshit, swagger around wearing burnt orange, have a great weekend, win or lose. This is an historic meeting, so go! My guys need five Ws to get to even with Texas. Bama-Texas is always a trip.
  21. Still waiting for a Reacher screen adaptation to measure up to Childs’ unique no stereotypes characters. Most of the law boys have no idea what to do when Reacher Says Nothing.
  22. Archibald’s > Dreamland However, a really good juicy piece of charred steak always > bbq imho kickoff’s at 6, right?
  23. I must have missed something. Anyone, please enlighten me. What part of Coach’s private life justified these assholes ending his job?
  24. Ren said it to Stimpy but that in itself was an homage to the film in question.
