  1. Wolverines works pretty well still. Kaufman too. But yeah, it’s sketch comedy. A lot of stuff doesn’t work. Chappelle Show probably has the highest hit rate I’ve ever seen, but it was basically a 15 minute show entirely operated by one of the greatest comics of our time.
  2. It’s stunning how bad the Giants are. Wasn’t Barkley averaging under 4 yards a carry before joining the Eagles?
  3. Making Carson the villain was Reitman’s most curious choice. I know why he did it, Carson represents The Man and SNL was an antiestablishment show, but it doesn’t make it right.
  4. I think likability might be Chalamet’s super power. Good cold open, painfully bad Weekend Update, no memorable sketches, pretty underwhelming episode given the host.
  5. I’d probably bet the Thunder in 7 game series, but they could get knocked out by a lower seed like the Mavs before the conference finals.
  6. I fully expect the bartender at Pinkerton’s to be dripped up in vintage Rockets gear and telling everybody we’re winning the title next time I’m in there.
  7. Impossible to beat Juan’s for breakfast. Well done.
  8. Holy shit. We’re winning the whole damn thing.
  9. Wild Robot feels like a lock for Best Animated.
  10. I come in peace. Hannity has an ongoing, direct line to Trump. Brags on it on constantly. He called the Hagseth vote exactly at 9pm EST. Hannity also called Arizona for Trump at 3pm MST on Election Day. Nobody had that. When Hannity talks, Trump and his people think it’s happening.
  11. My wife and I are laughing pretty hard. Possible classic.
  12. This. There’s a reason why Deadpool printed money and Reynolds couldn’t get arrested in another big movie. Yes, i know Free Guy is an exception.
  13. Pretty good for an abandoned bottle at the Spec’s drop.
  14. Season 2 has wrapped per Seth and multiple actors. No release date I can find.
  15. If my Houston guys are driving east to hit the boats or go to New Orleans, Liquor Hut in Mount Belvieu might be worth a stop. It’s about a half mile from I 10. Pretty good store picks. Really good 1792 BiB pick.
  16. Herbie’s son is on the team right? You know they’re going to give a ring to dad, and he’s going to wear it on every Game Day. That cocksucker likes wearing jewelry more than a Kardashian. What an insufferable fanbase. 10 years between championships, and countless losses to Michigan and CFP games doesn’t seem like punishment enough. I’m still angry we scheduled them again. Shitty Texas fan experience in the Shoe and then we get to chase that with tens of thousands of Rust Belt couch burners descending on Austin.
  17. Come on Henry. It’s not called the Heidi Show for a reason. She’s a minor member of an ensemble cast led by Jason Segel and Harrison Ford.
  18. I dunno about all that. We’ll only ever know what they show us. I can only think of one tell all book, and it was published for the 30th anniversary. What I saw in the doc: - The writers’ room really doesn’t exist anymore. It looked an initial meeting with the host, full cast, and writers. Then writing teams of 2-3 broke off into small groups, sometimes with cast members, and basically write the nuts and bolts of the show. Writing night, cast goes home at midnight. Writers stay up all night writing the show. Pitch to Lorne on Thursday. Lorne picks the show, and rehearsal on Friday. - I think regulars are maybe there for parts of Tuesday and Wednesday, Lorne meeting on Thursday, rehearsal Friday, and show on Saturday. - I don’t think current cast members are writing nearly as much as in the past. As the doc hammered home, if you want to be on the show, you have to write your own sketches. Could be an aftershock of the strikes. Maybe it’s not a strength of the current cast. Maybe they don’t care. - The old system is closed. Doing well on a SNL isn’t going to get a cast member a network sitcom. With all the packaging, it won’t get them a movie either. There’s no motivation to be great. Why take risks when longevity is key? Many appearances lead to becoming a familiar face for commercial work like Kennan and Heidi Gardner. - I’m sure they got a ton of help getting it made, but at least Please Don’t Destroy took a swing and made their own movie. The scenes with Conan are gold.
  19. I think Clay Travis and Nick Wright are transitioning into the same person.
  20. The pups were pretty timid at first, but they turned into Artic wolves within a few minutes. Big girl is famously hard to photograph, but I did get a good action pic of little girl.
  21. While it’s nothing earth shattering, the Spec’s Sazerac pick is pretty great. At $30, it’s probably an 8/10 for me. Subtle floral note. Not as good as the Roma picks, but it drinks better than many, many ryes prices over a $100.
  22. This. The bottle wasn’t even a keeper because the stopper immediately fell apart upon opening. I had to go find a wine stopper that would fit.
