  1. Yeah there’s the rub. No reason to sell the convention arena land though. I’m sure the county insisted and here we are. They should have put annual minimum improvement spends in the lease with an inflation adjustment. All parties need each other and need to get along, but the HLSR needs to throw their weight around and get what they want.
  2. Gotta defer to Spoetzl here. He’s much important than I’ll ever be. I think it would be unwise to separate Livestock Show from the Rodeo/Concerts. There is land on 288, but a shit ton of it is already committed to exhibitor trailer parking and carnival parking/RVs. Yes there’s a Carny Village. There’s also operating pump jacks out there making money. And it’s a few miles down the road. It would take a massive mass transit build out to connect the sites. They just expanded exhibitor trailing parking, They drained a little retention pond and paved it over on 288. The Astroworld site (RIP) is being used for parking currently. I think the HLSR’s current preference is improvements to NRG Stadium and Center per the county lease, and knocking down NRG Arena (lease gray area) and building a new facility. No GD idea what they’d do while the new facility is being built. The Horse Show is in the Arena. Also the Rabbit and Llama Shows. I personally like NRG Arena. The best Corral Club is there, and the auction set up is great. That said, it’s basically a giant storage facility with unpainted cement floors.
  3. A very spicy subject currently. HLSR gifting the land to the county was an all time bad decision. Basically, you don’t want Harris County as a (slum)landlord. Because many reasons.
  4. The Rujo boots look great. I don’t like the stitching on the soles so I’m having it dyed. I’ll post pictures after I get them back.
  5. I’m patiently waiting for Elko to make a good decision. Klein, Moffitt, sticking with Reed instead of pursuing a portal QB. His next bad decision should be entertaining. Looch is for sure slipping into his DM’s, so cozying to him is probably next. Elko shitfaced at Manziel’s feels inevitable.
  6. Favorite film? My brother and I watched The Voyage Home and The Undiscovered Country several thousand times growing up. The battle sequence in Undiscovered County is unparalleled in Star Trek history. The Voyage Home was such a wild premise and they pulled it off while bringing attention to whale conservation. Generations is my favorite TNG film. Obviously. I was talking about this with a coworker recently and his favorite is Khan and then First Contact.
  7. Pretty good. I was hoping for more fruit, but it does have a very pleasant floral note.
  8. If Baldoni gets Wrexham AFC in the settlement, I’m going to laugh pretty hard.
  9. Bill Simmons presenting his master plan to the Celtics front office to trade Derrick White for Sengun.
  10. We should be beating these fools like Barkley on a midget at a club on Richmond.
  11. Holy shit. The Rockets are going to beat people’s kidneys in if they continue this into the postseason. I feel tarded for not buying a discount mini pack when I had the chance.
  12. I like the Bourbon Trail Libby glass for the hotter/younger/cheaper bottles to help them breathe a little bit. Especially great on ryes that run hot. https://shop.libbey.com/products/libbey-signature-kentucky-bourbon-trail-whiskey-glasses-set-of-4?srsltid=AfmBOop_frwovVt9sWt6b346aqLQzqH6n2R8m5Ma1oCxQoDIMbz80pdm Glencairns are great, but nothing can hide in that glass
  13. Serious question are they bad at picking cast members? The list of people who auditioned and didn’t get it is stunning. Imagine SNL with Jim Carey, Jennifer Coolidge, Kevin Hart, Donald Glover, or Stephen Colbert.
  14. Hopefully De Niro’s final vanity project. Based on the trailer, Genovese and Costello look and sound exactly alike, except Genovese is wearing glasses. Didn’t even bother with makeup. Costello had a very distinct voice in which De Niro makes no attempt to emulate. I suspect it’ll be a lot of sitting and talking from Bobby. That said, it’s an interesting story and we get so few mob films now that I’ll see it theaters.
  15. Bill Simmons’ attempts to mind fuck the Rockets into trading Sengun last summer remains his hackiest bit.
  16. I believe the deputy was part of a special unit that serves warrants to violent offenders. I hope there’s hazard pay for those guys. Jesus what a dangerous job. If this piece of shit was out on a cashless bond, I gonna puke.
  17. More canaries dropping: https://www.kentucky.com/news/business/article298512273.html
  18. Scattershooting: - The Mexican Martini Challenge was fun. Drink 2 at each of the 3 locations. After completing the challenge, a friend climbed a tree at North Star. His girlfriend, now wife, had to coax him down. Good stuff. - My dumb ass cousin was a few years older than me. He was raised on a steady diet of Los Tios in Houston, but he bizarrely loved Trudy’s. Every time we visited he wanted to go eat there. He was in a Christian “fraternity” so I shouldn’t have been surprised, but eating at Trudy’s sober was miserable. - Definitely a chick birthday place as others have noted upthread. Eating at home, and just ordering drinks was the pro move. - Their food was so shitty I wonder if they would have been better off with a bar food menu only. 1 cook heating up nachos and quesadillas would have been about the same quality with much lower overhead. - Baby A’s is basically the same and still going strong. Purple ritas must be the secret sauce.
  19. It feels like another public execution, but it’s not like would have gone much better in Baltimore. Take your medicine, hopefully no injuries, keep building in the draft and free agency. Hopefully something breaks right in the future for us to get out of the AFC.
  20. I would have led with the “3x distillate in production than is being sold” at New Riff instead of some unknown craft distiller not being to sell 2 year old barrels. New Riff sounds like a ticking bomb. I’m sure they’ll declare bankruptcy in a few years when they can’t sell their 4 year old bullshit. If Bardstown doesn’t buy their inventory, those barrels are going to sit for a long time. I think the glut is already here in mid tier stuff like McKenna 10 and Booker’s. Customers have not reacted well to the price increases. I think Blanton’s is next. There will still people collecting specific dump dates, but it’s not a $90 bottle. I haven’t looked, but the flippers’ margins have to be super thin on Blanton’s, and serious bourbon drinkers don’t really drink it.
  21. Thanks. If they get some good picks, please share.
  22. Rewatching the show again while I’m on the bike. Just finished Season 5. The season finale is probably the saddest of the series. The old married couple dancing in the dark + Sam watching Diane walk up the stairs at Cheers are heartbreaking. “Have a nice life.” In my mind, that’s the series finale. The show was never as good, and had a sadder tone after Shelley Long left. - Sam loses the bar, and for the first time in his life has to work for somebody. - Sam never remarries, never has another serious relationship, and he even fails to get Rebecca pregnant. By the end of the show, he’s a charming but washed bachelor. - Reading through Reddit history, many Diane’s line went to Frasier after she left and he became a much bigger part of the show. I guess we don’t get Frasier without Shelley Long’s departure, but it still saddens me. - Sumner is the true villain of the show. Gary was a delightful foil, not a villain. Sumner broke Diane’s heart, and then returns out of thin air 5 years later to break up Sam and Diane.
