  1. Somehow I don't think that's the point the priest was trying to make.
  2. Same here
  3. Berkshire Hathaway is in that space as well.
  4. Hmmm. How about that. Thanks.
  5. My Son’s FIL is a UMC minister, and he just officiated his own octogenarian father’s funeral this afternoon, on Father’s Day. My son gets back from the ME in 4 days, so I was there to represent. Interesting parable he used - there was a country doctor who traveled around the countryside in horse and buggy, making house calls. Everywhere he went, his dog would faithfully follow, trotting a few paces behind the buggy. So the doctor gets word that one of his elderly patients was nearing the end, and he grabbed his bag and hat and took off down the road to visit. When he arrives, he heads up the stairs of the man’s farmhouse to attend the patient, but the dog, like usual, parks himself on the front porch to wait for his master to attend to business. The doctor takes the vitals and sadly reports to the man that his organs are failing and that the end is near. The man nods knowingly, and asks the doctor “what happens to us when we die?” The doctor thinks for a minute, says a quick prayer, and is at a loss for words. Suddenly, he hears the dog scratching at the front door, trying to get inside. He tells the man “I don’t know. I don’t know if there’s a heaven or hell or an afterlife but do you hear my dog scratching at your door? He knows I’m in here, and he wants to be close to me, he knows I give him food and water and shelter and kindness and affection and that’s all that matters to him. And I’d like to think that when we die it’s a little like that for us, we want to be close to our master.” I’m not sure what that means, but it made me feel a little better. (For all I know, there was a bear racing towards the house to devour the dog, the doctor, and the patient)
  6. That is epic. I miss my whaler so much.
  7. I really want Rory to win tomorrow.
  8. Makes me grateful I don’t live in Steeple Brook anymore. But it sure was nice before they built the Rim.
  9. I sure hate to hear that. Awful. I’m so sorry for your loss.
  10. A few Thanksgivings ago, in False River, LA, I met a cousin by marriage’s dad. His Tshirt said “We Dont Rent Pigs” and I chuckled, knowingly. He died of cancer a month later and a month after that his grandson Gus was born. Gus and his brothers Bear and Charlie already have their own horses, their dad was a pro rodeo guy for a while.
  11. So do I. Not to derail but years ago I sponsored an ‘ol boy from Florida who pushed his gimme cap back on his head, scratched his temple, looked at me and drawled “y’know when you're worryin’ your just arguing with God.”
  12. Bridge of spies is one of my favorites. “Im trying to save your life, but you don't seem too worried about it” “”Would it help?”
  13. I've got those dishes too!
  14. This might be a good place to post my favorite charity dedicated to ending human trafficking. https://www.joinredm.com/ Some of you Houston O&G professionals might be seeing this as the founder is an NOV C-level exec.
  15. I've got a Generac whole-house natural gas generator in Beaumont, even though I’m on the very well-managed, reliable, and affordable Entergy grid. There will be another Ike/Rita/Laura?
  16. Also, I can't get my wife near a church, because she's still dealing with multigenerational PTSD from her great granddad’s church. I've heard some things. “He was tall and he was handsome And he preached the holy word And the women of Wayne County Would all melted at what they heard He preached heaven for the sinner Through salvation from above But the ladies came to hear him For the way he talked of love. Brother Shelton, Brother Shelton Well, you seem to understand You were kind and you were gentle With the word at your command And your very much a man. I was young and I was aching to be loved by my first man I was frightened by feelings and I knew he'd understand So he took me in his strong arms and melted me one night Saying feelings all from heaven Darling love always right. Brother Shelton, Brother Shelton well You seem to understand You were kind and you were gentle With the word at your command Brother Shelton, Brother Shelton Will you hold this poor girls' hand You were wise and you were tender And your very much a man. Yes, he loved me and I knew that I had his baby deep inside But nobody would believe me He already had a bride They'd just say that I was lying I'd be punished for my sin So there's nothing left but leaving With a lesson learned from him. Brother Shelton, Brother Shelton Now this poor girl understands That you preach a different sermon When you touch a woman's hand Brother Shelton, Brother Shelton Praying at your preachers stand But the Lord and I know different Your just another man. Brother Shelton, Brother Shelton Now this poor girl understands That you preach a different sermon When you touch a woman's hand Brother Shelton, Brother Shelton Praying at your preachers stand But the Lord and I know different Your just another man...”
  17. As a PCUSA who somehow ended up at Baylor but can't stand their message board users, thanks for letting me hang.
  18. So Rory isn't getting divorced after all. Hmmm.

  20. Jesus. And its just June.
  21. My wife’s submissions.
