  1. Nothing soothes anxiety like sitting in a meeting, eyes closed, ears open.
  2. Always tough to follow justhookit but my best friend just sent me this from many many years ago. I'm in the middle with the sow, looking unimpressed. Kids don't know how good they have it. Note - I lost my virginity in the back seat of that Oldsmobile. To an actual female human.
  3. Ashwagandha needs to be taken in capsule form for about a week before the benefits become clear. I had a hop water once and it caused my euphoric recall to fuck with my head, so its a non-starter for me.
  4. Good for Henley. Glad he won Bay Hill.
  5. Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) has been used for over 3,000 years, primarily in Ayurvedic medicine, which originated in ancient India. It was first documented in Ayurvedic texts like the Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita, which date back to around 1000 BCE. Traditional Uses in Ancient India: • Used as a Rasayana (rejuvenating herb) to promote longevity and vitality. • Given to warriors before battles to enhance strength and endurance. • Used in spiritual practices to promote mental clarity and relaxation. • Prescribed for stress, fatigue, anxiety, and immune support. Spread Beyond India: • Ashwagandha also became part of Persian and Middle Eastern medicine through trade routes. • Used in Unani medicine, which blends Greek, Arabic, and Indian healing traditions. • Eventually introduced to Western herbal medicine in the modern era due to research on adaptogens. Would you like more details on its historical use in specific cultures?
  6. Ashwagandha might help reduce your cortisol levels. It’s very subtle. But nothing helps me get spiritually centered like 12-step work. I can't, but God can, and I think I'll let him. And its not a fight, its a capitulation. I know what you meant, but the harder I fight the worse it becomes. Learning how to stay surrendered is my lifelong quest. I spent today sitting in a hospital room with my mom at MD Anderson. She just had her bladder removed and her undercarriage rearranged and the nurse brought her some Oxy which she tried to refuse. I had to stress that she needs to stay ahead of the pain and it took all my restraint to not crack jokes in front of the oncologist about how the proper way to take it was to chop it up and snort it. I'm a sicko.
  7. My kiddo is an extra in the Bear, shooting this week. They pay $180/hr. She's playing a girl in a bar, so she's definitely in her element. I'm on the hook to take my nephew to a Cubs game, and my wife for both nights of DMB so Ill be there for end of June and the July 4th. I am contemplating splitting an apartment in Andersonville with my daughter because I sorta want to keep my job and I may have to take on Chicago accounts in order to do so. We were contemplating Wrigleyville but as cool as it sounds its a crazy shitshow for much of the year.

That was the Gulf of MEXICO. You can see the seawall, which was brand new then.
  9. A member of my slow white family winning a state basketball championship is something we never had on our bingo card.
  10. We've got a state champion in the family. Westbrook beat Birdville in OT. So thrilled for my cousin, who is a JR C. Elijah Garrett is a baller.
  11. I still regret not taking your kid for a fine dining experience at Guacaholic in Fayeteville. I know our sons must have mutual friends in the CAB. Would have loved to shake that young man’s hand. Sadly mine is now in a SF advisory role at Carson. But hey, the off-post Korean food slams and goes hard.
  12. Who likes chicken tendies.
  13. Finally got around to watching the John Mulaney Netflix special where he talked about his intervention and trip to rehab. Cocaine was never my thing but I sure could identify with his behavior. On another note, we finally finished building our new sober living house to replace the one from the 1940s. Got it done between Covid and the nascent trade war. Just under $1M, all financed with gifts and community development grants. I am the money guy, and was holding my breath waiting for obstacles and expenses that simply never materialized. We are blessed with a fantastic executive director and admin staff. The invitation stands, I can get a bed for any man (notwithstanding any felons with violent offenses) who needs a safe place to regroup and live sober. Here’s our story: https://thehowcenter.org/

I surmised that they had switched ships in NYC, sailed to Galveston, and transferred just what they could stash in a rowboat. Obviously landing on the beach instead of the harbor was for theatric effect.
  16. My cousin plays center for Westbrook. His dad played OG for Baylor. I remain the runt in the family at 6’.
  17. Well it's March 6th, and my company still can't decide what to do with me. But I'm still collecting a fat check, and barring a miracle, I'm fully expecting to be laid off in the next 30 days, hopefully with a package - all because I am resisting a move to Austin or Dallas, or another of the 8 cities my company has marked for consolidating operations. I'm also senior and very expensive, and the company is decidedly moving towards hiring junior and cheap people. I've been offered jobs in Seattle, San Francisco, Washington DC, Atlanta, Dallas, Austin, and Chicago. Regarding Chicago, I was on the phone with my daughter today, who is interviewing with competing firms to drive up her market rate as her current company has been sandbagging her on promotion and trying to buy her off with platitudes. I pulled every job listing we have in that city, and the maximum starting salaries are insulting. My fatherly advice is, "Promises don't pay the bills, get money whipped by a competitor, and boomerang back at a higher position if needed. That's corporate America 2025. Zero loyalty, fuck you pay me." The only downside is that she's gotta peddle Ozempic. I'll be happy to fly out to any of those cities on Monday morning and stay for the week, but unless they offered me a 5-year guaranteed contract, there's no way that I'm leaving my current situation. Fuck that nonsense. I have fantastic sunsets, peace and quiet, and I can be in the gulf on my boat in an hour. Honestly, this is the destruction of affordable small and midsize cities, all because our CEO hired some consultants who said "build a new tower in the Domain and force everyone to the office." Fuck that guy. I'm not going quietly, however. I've applied for about 50 internal jobs, and I am slacking/emailing every leader I can identify, saying, "Put me in coach." But if they resist, I will play golf for a month and then reassess. I do have an interview with an internal recruiter to cover an account in Atlanta and I'm going to tell her if you want results, hire me now and turn me loose, but I'm not moving.

In the attic bridal suite there is a party venue slash long wetbar with a billiards room for the gents. Not sure why I just remembered that, but it would be a cool place to spend a weekend.

Loved the scene with the bootleggers landing in front of Murdoch’s bathhouse and the Galvez. When I lived at Crystal Beach I did Sunday brunch in the main dining room with the kids countless times. Maybe Sheridan can do an offshoot where they track the Maceo’s mob to the current Tilmann Fertita business empire.

  22. Jesus this is funny and true. The ending.
  23. That kid needs a shot of bourbon mixed with honey and lemon juice. After that, any medicine will taste fine.
