1. Headed to my stepmoms later today to see if I can find the logbook, but her dad was a pilot in the https://www.americanairmuseum.com/archive/unit/483rd-bomb-group
2. It was. Anyone who thinks the CGI wasn’t realistic has awfully impossible standards. Lt Col Bierne Lay took all the reports and wrote a composite narrative of that fight that was published in the Saturday Evening Post. Cleven’s “You son of a bitch, you sit there and take it” rant at Norman Scott almost won him the Medal of Honor, and it ruined Scott. Per Crosby, he flew a few more missions but was then returned to the states by the medics as a “combat failure.”
3. Did anybody else have the Time Life collection in their study growing up? I read every single one e cover to cover when I was 12.
4. The magic words. Pm sent. Call me.
5. My high end Logitech does. Along with a dozen other buttons. Best mouse ever.
6. So, I was on Kirby, and in a hurry, and I stopped in at Goode & Co for some food. Brisket cut with the grain, like it was carved by a housewife at a church social. Inedible. Never again. What decent places are downtown and inside 610?
7. Reading Crosby’s book now. My stepmom’s dad flew 35 missions in a B-17. I need to find his logbook to see if I can match up dates/missions. First time I read it I was amazed how it shifted from bombing raids to flying civilian aircraft in Texas without fanfare.
8. So is a day trip to Catalina the best option? How does Laguna Beach differ from Newport/Balboa? Is it worth a drive over?
9. So the current plan might be to rent a VRBO Villa at Casa Sirena at Hamilton point on Catalina and use a golf cart to get around. I’m thinking we would park at Balboa and ferry over. Is there enough to do on Catalina to fill a weekend? She gets in late Thursday and we would spend Friday and Saturday night there and fly home Sunday. How does this sound? sbbruin I know how much you love Catalina. Alternative plan is really cute VRBO on Balboa Beach and a day trip to Catalina, plus a day exploring the mainland.
10. My wife just came home and got mad at me for watching without her. “Relax, if it’s as good as BOB then we will be watching it 25 times.”
11. Not bad. Not bad at all. Alternatively, are there any better coastal towns to visit besides the aforementioned?
12. I have midweek meetings in Costa Mesa next month and decided to make a long weekend of it. My wife is flying out to meet me. Staying at my work hotel Monday-Wednesday but looking for a cool but not over-the-top place in the Newport/Balboa area for Thursday-Saturday nights. Any suggestions?
13. Me planning a work trip to the west coast for Feb. I should include her because she's never been to California. “Honey, you want to fly out and meet me for Thursday through Saturday?” Maybe I'm becoming less selfish.
14. That's right!!! Happy birthday bro! If you ever wanted to sample a meeting, early morning in the basement of the church in the shadow of the Citibank building is a pretty chill one. The “Citi” group lol. You're a damned good egg. My goal is to meet every participant on this thread someday.
15. “That's funny, my next wife loves it when I go play golf (or go fishing) on Saturday” And just stare at her, unblinking. Boundaries, my good man. The key to a good 2nd marriage. I'm not having a 3rd. Too old to train a new one. I paid my dues, though.
16. Probably doesn't deserve it's own thread, but wow. It sure does explain a lot. Uppers, downers. . . https://arstechnica.com/science/2024/01/the-white-house-has-its-own-pharmacy-and-boy-was-it-shady-under-trump/
17. Thanks again for the hospitality! Was great to meet you, and as always, a great way to kick off the day.
18. @pch stuck in DFW for an extra day, I'll probably be at Harbor for the 7 am meeting tomorrow. Went to Chicago group (in Dallas) last week to see some conference friends. That's a cool hybrid speaker/podium group. Sunday I hit 13 years. Grateful for that.
19. I'd like to amend my answer. If your family and friends are telling you the bride is bad crazy rather than good crazy, you should listen.
20. Things were different back then. You had to accelerate the timeline because General Washington needed you to join the cause, right?
21. Now that I've had time to think about it, I wish that soulless motherfucker would come canvases my new neighborhood. (jokes on him, he can't. I've got a gate.)
22. Don't worry, your starter Marriage will provide excruciating, expensive lessons.
