  3. Out of curiosity, GRUhorn, have you kept up with the number of times you've been banned or crowdsourced from this site? It's an honest question. A couple of years ago, I think it was about a dozen. What's it up to now, three dozen, maybe?
  4. So, with Leon taking over the federal government's payment processing systems, are we about to see him pull off the ultimate version of the Office Space scam?
  5. I guess we didn't need their precious fucking Keystone pipeline so badly after all.
  6. About 42% of all our imports come from Mexico, China, and Canada. This free-linked article lists about 150 products that are dominated by those countries in case you want an idea of what's most likely to be affected. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/02/01/business/economy/mexico-china-canada-imports-tariffs.html?unlocked_article_code=1.t04.VLdD._cURLID1HUgD&smid=url-share
  7. About 42% of all imports in the US come from Mexico, China, and Canada. Free link to very short article, but it has a long list of about 150 products that we import the most from these countries. Good to scan to see what's likely to start costing more: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/02/01/business/economy/mexico-china-canada-imports-tariffs.html?unlocked_article_code=1.t04.VLdD._cURLID1HUgD&smid=url-share

  10. Thanks. Yes, for clarification, he said the temps were ABOVE freezing at that altitude. Too late to edit my post.
  11. I'm watching a local news station on YouTube. One of their reporters on the scene came across this oxygen tank about a 1/4-mile away from the impact site (they're saying it's a large debris field). Also, the weather guy checked the temp readings about a 1/2-mile in elevation (max height at which the plane reached), and the temp was below freezing. So, they think that ice was likely NOT a factor. As I was typing this, they read a quote from a city council person, there are mass casualties on the ground. Reports are that it's a gruesome scene. Edit: Also, also the plane crashed only about 30 seconds after take-off, according to what the anchors just said. The flight was heading to Springfield, MO.
  12. From the comments:
  13. So, as a result of this ruling, the mostly blue states that sued will continue to receive funding, but the red states that are going along with Trump's idiocy will not. \
  14. From my understanding, they're ostensibly being imposed to curb illegal immigration and fentanyl smuggling. At least, that's one rationale I've read.
  15. I'm not sure which part you'd like me to expand on, but placing a 25% tariff on all imports from Canada/Mexico violates both the spirit and the letter of the free trade compact the US has with them under the USMCA and could result in one or all three from eventually pulling out of it after a series of tit-for-tat retaliatory measures. How likely that is would be anyone's guess at this point. But, if that were to happen, the negative economic and fiscal impacts on the Texas economy and tax base would be quite painful, as the state relies heavily on international trade, especially with Mexico. Of course, being smaller economies that are more reliant on us than we are on them, the impacts could be far-reaching in Canada and Mexico. For example, one-sixth of Mexico's GDP is tied to trade with the US, and I'm sure that eliminating a good chunk of that trade could be economically and socially destabilizing. And that, in turn, could cause a further increase in the number of migrants seeking to cross the border, much like the economic crisis they had with the devaluation of the peso during the 1990s. A more technical read on the state of the USMCA and the potential impacts of tariffs can be found in this newly published report: https://www.piie.com/microsites/2025/future-usmca
  16. which could ultimately lead to the dissolution of NAFTA USMCA and completely wreck the Texas economy.
  17. I will never not post this when that's mentioned, and no one can stop me.
  18. You've admitted to not following the news, so you may not know this, but it was your president who brought the DEI bullshit to the table. And, of course, it should be no surprise at this point, as we've all already had front-row tickets to his chaotic, absurd, and malevolent circus before. If you voted for this carnival barker, don't complain about the ensuing Sturm und Drang. The angry members of the audience are, after all, just part of the show.

  20. The Army helicopter in the crash might have been flying higher than approved. The military helicopter that collided with an American Airlines regional jet on Wednesday night appears to have been flying too high and outside its approved flight path at the time of the crash, according to four people briefed on the matter but not authorized to speak publicly. The Army Black Hawk helicopter was supposed to be flying in a different location and lower to the ground as it traversed the busy Reagan National airspace, the people said. Before a helicopter can enter any busy commercial airspace, it must get the approval of an air traffic controller. In this case, the pilot of the helicopter asked the air traffic controller for permission to use a specific, predetermined route that lets helicopters fly no higher than 200 feet and that hugs the bank on the east side of the Potomac River, a location that would have let it avoid the American Airlines plane. The requested route β€” referred to as Route 4 at Reagan β€” followed a specifically carved out path already known to the air traffic controller and helicopter pilot. The helicopter pilot confirmed visual sight of the American Airlines plane, and the air traffic controller instructed the helicopter pilot to follow the route and go behind the plane. But the helicopter pilot did not follow the intended route, the people briefed on the matter said. Rather, the helicopter was above 300 feet, not below 200 feet, and was at least a half-mile off the approved route when it collided with the jet. A senior Army official urged caution in making any assessments until the helicopter’s black box could be recovered and analyzed, along with other forensic data. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing inquiry, said the Black Hawk’s pilots had flown this route before, and were well aware of the altitude restrictions and tight air corridor they were permitted to fly in near the airport.
  21. Jumble of thoughts & questions: Has anyone else noticed that the license plates aren't from any US state but, instead, they have a bust of Kier on them? Do they have their own state? Speaking of transportation: What do y'all think about everyone driving old cars and using old computers? Is it just an aesthetic thing? Helena has a nice looking iPhone, so I guess it's not that. The hills have eyes in the goat room. Cold, blue, and ice are definitely in this season. Cold Harbor connection? How big do y'all think the outie resistance is? And I wonder if that's a clue about Helena's choice to pretend to be Helly. As to the purpose of it all: Is this a reincarnation cult? Is that what they're after -- trying to replicate/induce/whatever reincarnation?
