  1. Basically behind (sorta) Ellis Island is Tuscany Suites. The casino there is small but chill and feels much nicer than many spots in town. Also not a bad place to stay.
  2. My update. Maybe someone will find the info useful. Had first symptoms Monday morning. Tuesday morning was feeling flu-like. Tested positive. By Tuesday afternoon had full-blown symptoms: coughing, runny nose, fatigue, fever, aches, chills. Started Paxlovid that evening. Wednesday morning woke up to no fever, aches, chills. Have had no more fatigue. Cough is terrible and my throat hurts in a way it has never hurt before. Feels like I am trying to cough up a ball of barbed wire. Thursday morning (today) still no other symptoms at this point other than runny nose and awful cough and sore throat. Not sure if the Paxlovid diminished my symptoms or not as was unable to clone myself for a control. As it stands though, I feel I am doing better than friends who didn't get the Paxlovid and just rode it out. The only side effect I have experienced with Paxlovid is I have a strong metallic taste in my mouth about 2-4 hours after taking the pills. About to take my morning dosage now. Looking forward to feeling like I have a mouth full of pocket change.
  3. I have mailed mine before to get a visa, but I agree that it makes for some nervous days until it returns.
  4. Called my PCP about getting a prescription for Paxlovid. Never got a call back after leaving a message. Tried online doctor on demand, but was told they don't do Paxlovid. Called a local clinic; they said I had to come in. I replied "You want me to come into a clinic for a prescription when I know I have COVID and might infect other people?" Yes. So went in, got the prescription and started it last night. I already feel better. My aches and chills are gone for now. Just a sore throat and runny nose. But I also just woke up, so maybe it hits me hard again today. I felt pretty shitty all day yesterday.
  5. Is this event sponsored by the Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul Chiropracters' Association?
  6. Been abroad and got home last night feeling crappy. Thought it might have been jet lag and just sitting in planes, buses, trains. Nope first time COVID. Been vaxxed and boosted. Just called the nurse practitioner for my PCP. Will see if she has a plan or tells me to ride it out. Glad I’m home and not in London tho
  7. Moved on from Dublin to Galway and then Limerick. Flew out of Shannon to Heathrow and had flight cancelled so spent about 30 hours in London. 16 days of Manchester-Edinburgh, Dublin, Galway, Limerick, London. Now back home as of last night but liver is aching. Too old for this crap...until I do it again. Cue Steve Wariner.
  8. In Dublin now. Much cooler (temps) than Edinburgh. Sitting in Temple Bar. Maybe the most touristy place outside of Disneyland. I’d order a Mad Dog margarita if they had one.
  9. Literally sitting at The World’s End right now.
  10. In Manchester now; riding the train to Edinburgh in a few days. Have been a couple of times. Enjoy Edinburgh. Great city. Find the time to take at least one day trip to a small Scottish town and just go sit in the pub all day talking to locals. It will be the most memorable thing you do.
  11. So I am going to be about 40 miles from St. Andrews Thursday through Monday of next week. I have never been to St. Andrews. I won't be able to get a ticket, but is there any place near the Old Course where I could hang out and maybe catch a glimpse of some golf.

    London

Yep, exchange rate is great right now. Headed to Manchester, Edinburgh, Dublin, Galway, Limerick starting this weekend for two weeks. Have given my liver a rest for the last 14 days. It has no idea what it is about to deal with.
  13. If you want to hit up beer gardens, the Augustiner-Keller is a great one. I also like the beer garden next to Chinesischer Turm (Chinese Tower) in the park. But there are several other good ones. But you can also just hit up Marienplatz--the platz in the middle of town--and walk around the area. Hofbräuhaus München is near there, but I was not a huge fan of that place. Seems mega touristy--but still a cool stop. In Marienplatz is the Rathaus-Glockenspiel. Cool clock tower with the automatronic show of some local history. I can't remember what times it "pops" off, but it is listed somewhere.
  14. $20 to $30. There was always a bargain bin in places like KMart that had ratched games for like $5. They mostly sucked, but sometimes you find a gem in there.
  15. Blowing was for Nintendo cartridge. Atari games plugged and played every damn time. Those superior graphics make me think Atari.
  16. Great band. Used to work with a guy that lived with Crosby for a while when they were teens. He said it was wild. And that David has skillz that far exceeded his looks. A guitar can do wonders.
  17. Interesting article on converting the sargassum to energy and fertilizer. https://theconversation.com/stinky-seaweed-is-clogging-caribbean-beaches-but-a-new-zealand-solution-could-turn-it-into-green-power-and-fertiliser-183807
  18. We were at a resort about 15 miles south of Cancun near Puerto Morelos last week. The seaweed made the beach unusable. The resorts were trying to deal with it, but multiple tractors couldn't keep up. It wasn't just a nuisance--it completely shut the beaches down and the stench was pretty bad where it was decomposing. My family was fine with the pools/swim up bars so it wasn't a vacation-ruiner. One day we took a catamaran out to Isla Mujeres, and there were small parts of the beaches there that had no seaweed--but everyone in Mexico seemed crammed into these few clean areas, and it was wall to wall people. We found some tidal pools on the north end of the island and enjoyed just wading there and looking at the fish. I asked one of the locals there, and he said the seaweed problem was constant and that there seemed to be no way of really fighting it. If you haven't seen how bad it can get down there, it is hard to explain. It is washed up on the beach as far as 10 feet and it is up to 2-3 feet thick. Just massive amounts. There is so much floating in the water right off the beach that all the water just turns to a slush of weed and brown--the local guy called it chocolate milk. I'll be interested to see what you find.
  19. Well, if we are gonna bring up Germany… Burgermeister in Berlin does a great burger and fries. I always hit up the one at the Schlesiisches Tor u-bahn stop. It is actually under the elevated tracks. There is no “inside.” You order from the stand then eat at a stand-up table that you will likely share with drunk strangers. The liquor store across the street will provide your beverage. The stand is on a little traffic island so it gets pretty packed. Great food in my favorite part of Berlin. It’s open damn-near all night.
  20. Two thoughts: Bet he used two aliases to get 24 cassettes for 2 cents from Columbia House. This collection was staged for the photo. Ain't nobody got time to keep those bitches alphabetized. And my lower left would have been all Ozzy. 1979 Ford F100 Stepside.
  21. This is the answer. All the places around San Angelo do it. Zentner made it standard years ago.
  22. Flew out of Cancun this morning. There was no mention of the Covid test.
