  1. That'll do it, a share of the BXII at a minimum. Holy fuck, that was exhausting.
  2. It's Baylor in Morgantown tonight, get yer whistle ready!
  3. There's probably a couple hundred class action lawsuits against universities both public and private right now due to COVID. It started somewhere and it's changing the world!
  4. It's surprising what search terms people will use. The photographer I was talking about mentioned some of the ones that he uses and they, though I can't remember them specifically, were not what I was expecting. He does fine art portraits and it would seem like that would be something you'd want to use in a tag but he said everyone does that so he uses (making shit up) "expensive high-end exorbitant lavish photos". Apparently discerning well-heeled shoppers actually use those terms.
  5. Yeah, I got caught in the rain there not long after I took that. I was down by where the mulching station is. They have a little green storage shed that has about a 12" eave on it that I was able to stand under. Steady light shower for half an hour or so, not a soul in sight. Was quite peaceful.
  6. I didn't even know I had data. Feeling better about myself knowing now that I got something that has value to someone.
  7. I watch a series of conversations on Youtube, it's a bunch of photographers having a round table a couple times a week with a guest doing an AMA. One of the regulars is all about marketing, an old guy but apparently pretty savvy about selling his stuff online. His big thing is search terms and key words. Says using the right words gets him up the Google ladder in search results. All that to ask, you mess with that much in your endeavors to find buyers?
  8. No ball for what, 3 weeks? Now spend Saturday night in Kansas-land, fly direct to Morgantown to play WVU on Tuesday. Fly home to play OSU on Thursday and wrap it up with Tech on Sunday. 4 good teams in 8 days should be an excellent warm up for any tournament.
  9. I've got a friend in town who owns a frame shop, known the guy since we were teens. We'd talked a few times over the last 20 years but I don't think I'd seen him since the mid '80's. I decided to pay a visit, figured he'd know some artistic types around town whose brains I could pick from time to time. It was the first time I'd ever been in his shop and I fell in love with the place immediately. 30 years or so worth of junk, art, etc... I've got him talked into letting me try my hand at an environmental portrait. I've played with the lighting here at home so I'm not wasting too much of his time. He's more of a creative than I am so it'll end up being a collaborative effort if/when we ever get around to doing it. Small space though, probably 5 different kinds of light. He's got track lighting spots, fluorescent, large windows, you name it. Plan is to just kill all the ambient and start from scratch with strobes. Fun, fun, fun! I found a $150 Sigma 10-20mm lens and decided I wanted to play with a wide angle. Spent about 3 hours at the park trying to make use of it and get learned on 'em. Not something I'll use very often but figured it might have some use someday so better play with it a bit. I still haven't culled through everything but took a quick look-see and kind of like these 2. EDIT: One other thing from yesterday, it was about 5:30 and getting dusky out. I was still messing with the lens and wanted to put this rock in the foreground but the side I was on was totally dark by this time. Then I remembered that this camera has a tiny popup fill flash. Photo is not noteworthy but I was quite pleased with myself. Might start throwing a speedlight and a clamp or something into the bag, it could sure come in handy.
  10. Yeah, lack of space creates its own set of issues for sure. Trying to get the subject lit and controlling the spill is one of them. I was using the softbox just because it is inherently a bit more directional. I did try an umbrella and flagged the edge nearest the wall. I think with that I just had the umbrella jammed in so close that the falloff was so dramatic that it almost gave it a split light look. I ended up going back to the softbox and repositioning myself, in the kitchen. There's an open "window" of sorts in the wall between the kitchen and dining room so that I was able to move everything about 45 deg and the back wall is wide enough that I could shoot from right to left and use that left side of the backdrop. Feathered the box so just the back edge was on the subject and got a little bit of wrap around. Put a white reflector opposite that and then used the black flag again to prevent spill on the background. I started out with the model almost in profile facing nearly straight into the box and then slowly tweaked them both. Got tired of fucking around with it after a while so I pushed everything into a corner and will probably play with again tomorrow. I think I might still have the box too close because the left side of the nose is pretty blown out with no detail. I think if I just pulled the box back a little bit and gave the angle a slight twist I could get a better shot and use the reflector to even out any shadows on that side. Then I gelled the background because why not? Oh, also know what you mean about the black felt so switched to a Mexican field workers straw hat. Brim casts a weird shadow and the underside of it is a bit lit up too. Something to work on. Might end up doing as you suggested and lifting the light a bit and bouncing off the wall to fill. The light coming directly from the side at head height just looks unnatural.
  11. Trying to figure out how to light someone who is wearing a hat in a portrait type setting. Obviously tricky because the brim of the hat shades the eyes. I set this up today but don't really like it. Maybe go ahead and raise the key light to more of a traditional 45 deg and use a fill from directly on axis w/camera? Not sure how to balance that though and am afraid it would create some weird cross shadows. Thoughts anyone? @nycHorn you have any experience with something like this? Included a shot of the lights as well.
  12. I liked the Nick Adams character, wish that had been fleshed out more in a single novel. Google told me that those stories were compiled into a collection in '72 but I think that most of them were in the collection that I just finished. Some of the stories, due in part to the economy of words, seemed somewhat unfinished but nope, that was the story and more words would not have conveyed anymore than what there already was. Wish I knew French now.
  13. Baylor goes to Morgantown on 03/02, right? Super spreader showdown!
  14. Has everyone tested positive now? Some of them looked ragged last night. Could just be the layoff but also could be lingering effects on the body from actually being sick. Teague looked worn out, Cryer got earlier and more playing time than normal and Jonathan was a scratch. Not losing after being down 17 to a team that seemingly couldn't miss a 3 for much of the game showed some resiliency to me when they could have just folded it up and said "losses happen".
  15. Well hell, damn near had a half court shot there at the end. Whew.
  16. 'Clones pushing the Bears around in Waco all night. I'm thinking Baylor may have a hangover from too much corona.
  17. "Give 'em love and promise them the world". - O.A.H. III Guy I knew who sold "black boxes" back in the 70's. Little gizmo that seemed to endlessly print $20 bills.
  18. More Hemingway, a collection of his short stories. Some are really short. That's a good thing about Hemingway, if you don't like a particular story it doesn't take long to get thru it. Brevity, he had it.
  19. They would have won if they would've just run out of time? That's gonna blow some aggy's tiny mind.
