  1. Google the record high temp in Waco. Don't go by your truck temp at 5p going home. Don't go by the "official" temperature taken at the airport that sits out of town by the lake either.
  2. Seems a little early in the season for a bawll but it is southern LA. Still, I bet the bugs were small.
  3. Got clued in that HEB opened at 8 (unannounced) so breezed thru. Got the essentials I needed and will make another run Thursday or Friday early to check the shelves. Hoping things start rolling in by then.
  4. HEB does not open until 9 this morning. This news ungruntles me. A friend's wife said that she went, not sure what day because it was a woman telling the story, and the shelves looked worse than they did in the early pandemic panic days.
  5. First 20 times should have taught them something.
  6. I've never consumed the twitter. Is it filling?
  7. Lady photographer from San Antonio that I've met at a few of the horse shows, think her name is Tina something, has a niche market in photographing equestrian archers. Either late in 2019 or maybe last year she got invited to go to Mongolia and live in a yurt for a month or so as the official photographer for some middle east royal family. These rich goobers get together for this stuff at different locations to compete for bragging rights. She's been over to Jordan, Syria etc... doing this before. She was traveling from Texas to West Coast and then on to China, at least that was the plan... then there was unrest in Hong Kong and of course COVID so it never happened. She has no fear of laying on the ground and letting the riders come galloping past so she can get good shots. Not the same as "goat toss" equestrian game but still... Crazy mofos.
  8. Looks like the shit has cleared the I-35 corridor, east Texas the anus is upon you. Temps are still gonna suck for a few more days though. Stay warm and stay Surly.
  9. Bleak view from cell block 6 the last couple of days.
  10. I missed that. Early KWTX web story says city denies the rumor. Whatever, I've got a front yard full of water that just needs a little melting.
  11. Wide ranging conversation with Peter Krogh on digital files, management, storage etc...
  12. Crossed my mind last night that a lot of livestock are going to be hating their short lives just a bit more this week.
  13. Never argue with a word warlock.
  14. Hustler magazine was first published about the same time I hit puberty. That about covers it.
  15. "Read" (audio book) Hemingway's "The Sun Also Rises". Good enough book I guess, what struck me the most was the memories it brought back of visiting France and Spain as a young man. Made me wish I had gone to a bullfight.
  16. I read a lot of McMurtry this summer and "Texasville" was very successful when it came out but it didn't do much for me reading it at this late date. And after reading a lot of his stuff it seems that much of his work has a screenplay feel to it and unfinished screenplay at that. A couple of stories had complete wtf endings, as though he couldn't figure out where or how to end the story and just cobbled together something so he could write "the end". "The Last Kind Words Saloon" was that way. Just weird to me. I think some of these writers can just throw anything out there and folks will gobble it up based on previous works. It sells well, makes top seller lists and then of course that encourages more to buy. I've read a lot of Michener but never Texas but I can see his work and his readers falling into that trap. I've never read a book by him that I didn't thoroughly enjoy but most all of them were earlier works.
  17. The COVID throws an interesting wrinkle into a lot of things. Games canceled and postponed and I have to wonder what lingering effects it will have on those who actually had the damn virus and weren't just sidelined due to contact tracing. I'm sure not every kid can shake it off and be 100% again quickly. Time will tell and we may never know exactly how it impacts this coming March.
  18. Took this yesterday, more experimenting with gear. Took it with 6 stops of ND filtration. It was pretty breezy and the river had a good bit of ripples but the angle I was shooting from really didn't do what I wanted which was smooth it out. I think this exposure was 1.3 seconds. Need to do a good bit longer exposure to get what I want. Also had the lens stopped all the way down to f22 which didn't help sharpness at all. Did use a tripod and cable release but yeah, just playing with the gear mostly. Oh, then I got home and decided the sky needed some real blue treatment so used Photoshop Elements "smart"/dummy one click fixes. Whatever. Learned a little something and plan to try something similar but with the morning sun lighting the banks of the river and the fronts of the buildings instead of late day sun.
