  1. i am not going to do all the work in this conversation. but in trying to interpret this, my natural assumption is that you are sarcastically implying a certain hypocrisy in my skepticism about students' unbiased experiences at u of austin because i frame it as an environment with an overwhelming undercurrent of ideology in its mission...and that the reason for the appeal of an institution like this to a certain segment of people is the perception held by many of those same people that traditional universities themselves are ideology associated environments? if not, then i don't know what you are trying to say. if so, drawing a parallel between a tiny incubation of peter thiel's wet dream society with 90 students and universities with tens of thousands of students with an extremely diverse perspective on pretty much everything is disingenuous and absurd. i think universities have become punching bags for allowing some more progressive ideologies to be explored - which i certainly view as natural given the nature of 18-26 year olds in general, as well as university's historical role of being on the vanguard of social progressive movements that can sometimes be extreme. but to say that the university of texas or any other major university is not welcoming to students of all ideologies (including traditionally conservative ones) is just absolute horseshit stemming from right wing propaganda nonsense. it's 50k people from entirely diverse backgrounds that all hate each other and all want to fuck each other. it's a confusing time.
  2. it's currently hard to get at that. i do recall a 60 minutes segment in which they interviewed some students. the problem with that right now is that is such an ideology associated environment and anyone that is willing to be a part of it at this level of infancy (and with no accreditation) is going to have a natural predilection towards believing it's superior. the inherent sampling bias will distort any ability to evaluate it for the larger population given that is has not even hit 100 students yet and, as i said, the ~90 or so people who have participated were like "sure, i believe in what joe lonsdale and bari weiss are all about and i want to spend my time matriculating here."
  3. i haven't read much of the thread after this as i suspect it likely devolved into another shitshow. i'm also certain that a number of posters probably offered a lot of criticism of the university of austin ethos and its mission statement and founders (deserved imo). i would just say while that meritocratic message may be something that superficially resonates for you since it seems you've apparently found some frustrations in the conventional university application process (though i think the characterization of said process in the tweet betrays the ideological bias driving the tweet)...as someone who prides themselves on seeing both the bigger picture of things as well as unmasking propaganda messaging as you do, i'd caution you to view this as anything more than just marketing material and ideological red meat to disenfranchised kids and parents who wonder if they will get a fair shake (dei/affirmative action dog whistle) and further integrate them into said mentality. it's also just pure marketing for an organization trying to get off the ground and get some momentum to reach critical mass in order to be taken seriously and transition from "pre-revenue" to "post-revenue." i don't find it particularly resonant. moreover, if your kid makes a 1460 on the sat, they will not struggle to gain admission into a number of traditional, prestigious schools so it's not like they are offering some sort of lifeline to the otherwise discarded. "courage to join the first ranks of our truth-oriented university" pretty much gives away the game. but perhaps it will be a good landing place for your kids. who knows? give it a shot and follow up. in the last three years, i have hired graduates of upenn, umich, ufla, utexas, and tamu...and shockingly, other than the agro, i'm surprised any of them can get themselves out of bed in the morning and tie their own shoes.
  4. I was just wondering to myself, would it be worth it to kill the watch hijack by inviting bozo and agwithkids in here to talk about gerrymandering? Kind of an ultimate burn it to the fucking ground to clear the whole thing out for a few days move…and then hope the thread organically grows back stronger than ever with no jewelry chat.
  5. jesus christ. when you can't tell if a post is made by the shadow president of the united states or tyreek hill, we may need to reevaluate.
  6. putting aside the agros' terrible start, this is just fucking weird looking for any college baseball fan. florida, miss state, and south carolina all have national championships since 2012. arky, texas, georgia, and tenn all inversely 8-1.
  7. random observation...if michigan state were to win this game, the final four would be comprised of one team from each of the P4 conferences. That would be pretty cool.
  8. for the first time in fucking forever, i listen to this pompous and pretentious twat speak last night in that section about the derangement discussion and, in his defense,he was roasting the fucked up cult mentality consuming the "republican party" and that was one of those "okay, if we can admit there is a little bit of trump derangement amongst the left, can you guys admit that it is a two way street and you guys have completely lost your fucking minds in your cultish and religious adherence to this dipshit?" i cannot believe this self-important wannabe provocateur is still on tv. but then again, donald trump is apparently the president.
  9. can't wait to post my reaction videos to the fact that i live in the united states which is apparently on earth. fucking idiots.
  10. your vacations suck apparently.
  11. hmmm, not seeing an annabelle chairlegs show at the nuge's backyard stage on there anywhere. clearly an oversight.
  12. i can't fucking believe that the best post on a thread with more than 50 posts on it was from fucking futureman. though props to henryjames for imo'ing it and making me laugh.
  13. dude. it was an incredibly lame post. and it completely decimated any horseshit facade/lie you were still trying to maintain about not being animaltobacco.
  14. there are cringey posts regularly made on this site daily but this one deserves some special recognition as one of the more texags-y posts not invoking fascist shit i have seen. god damn dude.
  15. Pasta Bar Jeffreys Comedor Barley Swine Luties (if your wife is white) Uchiko cocktails before or after at Prelude.
  16. it's like mike white does nothing but hang out with all the white women that live within 3 miles of my house.
  17. Great series win and a great sign re: mental toughness bouncing back from the friday night ass beating to take it. hook'em.
  18. the various preceding rankings are amusing given that the top and bottom pix are the same woman. thylane blondeau. here's the best she ever looked imo. but they did some makeup/editing magic to her tits to make them look bigger than they are. go horns. let's kick miss state in the fucking teeth to get this thing started.
  19. i suspect it is more about dimon being just another public personality with no accountability for anything he says or does and shamelessly heel turning when it starts to impact him. recall that this was him in january of this year: https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/22/economy/jamie-dimon-tariffs-get-over-it/index.html
  20. as if receipts matter. the vice fucking president of the united states was recorded saying that the president of the united states was an "idiot," "reprehensible," and "america's hitler." we are through the looking glass on any of that. if you have no shame and you have no ethical foundation, nothing matters.
  21. okay, i understand what you are saying about the difference between the camera and lidar approach and the ability to operate within a completely mapped, contained perimeter vs. a truly automated driver that can go anywhere and any speed (which seems questionable). i get that they are different approaches and the limitations imposed may create the ability to deliver the achieved goal quicker and more "easily." as a non-tesla driver, i am curious - can you right now take your tesla to 5th and west lynn, turn on fsd, and get to say 15th and trinity without ever doing a thing besides sitting their doom scrolling surly?
