  1. like i said yesterday dude, if you are playing and practicing guitar and enjoying it, i have no criticisms to offer of how you spend that time. do your thing. all joking aside, while i am not a great guitarist, i am a reasonably competent one. and to any beginners that are utilizing this thread as a resource, i think it is important that they understand that there is an enormous difference between someone advocating for practicing their practicing/playing a clean signal loud to better reveal opportunities to improve their technique (which is a totally valid point) versus someone advocating for practicing/playing with extreme levels of gain and distortion on the signal chain to reveal those same issues. you are going to substantially hide your weaknesses (particularly in chords) in that context. speaking at even the most basic levels, playing a traditional b or f chord and making it sound good on an acoustic or a clean tele plugged into a huge tube amp turned up to 10 is substantially harder than making a b or f sound good with the same guitar running through a tube screamer, a distortion pedal, and a fuzz pedal to an amp turned up to 10. while hyperbolic with my application of penile scenarios, it wasn't that far off. with that signal chain, you can just slam your hand against the neck and it can sound like "hell yeah." perhaps you were just loose with your language and all you meant was practicing loud can more easily lead to identifying weaknesses and improvement which i 100% agree with. but there is a difference between that and practicing with a thrash metal signal chain in order to identify nuanced technique issues. do your thing. make some music.
  2. like i said, do your thing...whatever is fun for you and helps you improve. for my part, i'm going to go practice my paradiddles on my snare with yarn tonight.
  3. so, if i have this right, you're attempting to practice and play clean, legato guitar phrases and expressions with gain and distortion pedals on thrash metal levels? you're trying to play eric johnson and mark knopfler's music with david mustaine's signal chain while retaining its clean melodic expression? you know what's really hard to do, man? play a violin with a drumstick. have you ever tried that? i mean, i think i have the col legnos, spiccatos, staccatos, and ricochets down but you have to be world class exceptional to get a good detache, sul tasto, and legato bow strokes to make that stradivarius sing like an angel with a drumstic for a bow. for my next trick, i will train myself to reach art blakey levels of jazz drumming by practicing with q-tips.
  4. i wonder what cops in vermont do all day. investigate maple related crimes? subaru thefts?
  5. i guess his mom must have talked to jamarcus mcfarland about the ladies romancing each other down here in austin or something?
  6. someone talk me out of laying a fortune on wolves to draw or win +9000. everton currently up 3-0 in the second half which means it should be 3-3 in about 15 minutes.
  7. taaffe's pick was a big one in this game and a great play...but the play that he made against the agros that stood out to me was on the first drive - the only one tamu had all night - there was a 2nd and long run where our dl had its worst containment moment of the night and there was a huge tract of land for reed to run in. taaffe was the only one to fill the space and he did a phenomenal job of fundamentally breaking reed down in the open field for the tackle that turned into a 6-7 yard gain instead of what would have been a 15-20 yard gain. i think that play stuck with reed through the night and made him a little less confident about running upfield when chances presented.
  8. he's losing that in two years regardless according to the florida constitution: "No person who has, or but for resignation would have, served as governor or acting governor for more than six years in two consecutive terms shall be elected governor for the succeeding term."
  9. if you've never used your erect penis to barre while playing a nice little c minor chord progression from a Cm into an Bb back to an f, you're just gettin' busy dyin'.
  10. i had to wait six extra months for my spinal fusion because of uhc's denial bullshit. claimed the dr's admin did not fill out form correctly and was denied and then when doing the appeal, they said they could not do a peer to peer review with the surgeon because...it was on appeal. had to file a different appeal through a different process with an entirely new mri and a bunch of other bullshit. that infuriating labyrinth of nonsense makes me read this news and immediately recall the meme of "i'm not advocating for it...but i understand."
  11. i don't know if this is just your regularly scheduled insane rimbo stuff or if you are just drunk but wtf are you talking about? extremely high gain/distortion means you can basically just do whatever the fuck you want to the guitar including just slapping your dick against the neck and it is just going to sound like you're rocking out. things like fucked up barre chords and more exotic chords sound a thousand times "better" in that scenario then with a clean signal chain or an acoustic.
  12. well it was a surprise that wiley signed with miami and not texas. happy?
  13. i think sharma has something set for 4:30 this afternoon, right?
  14. problem was both of those drives ended in turnovers.
  15. also, the two games that uga lost this year was wearing white jerseys and they wore white in the seccg last year in the loss to bama. hmm. that said, almost all of our best memories since 2000 are in all white. 2004 rose bowl, 2005 ohio state, national championship, 2008 ou game, 2011 aggies, 2018 ou, 2018 uga, 2022 and 2024 ou, 2023 big 12 champ game. unfortunately, white was also loss in 2009 champ game and playoff semifinal loss last year. orange really only has 2008 fiesta bowl, 2013 ou beatdown, 2015 ou upset. on the other hand, lost the 2018 big 12 champ game in orange. also lost big non con home games in 2006 to osu, 2019 lsu, and 2022 bama. also wore orange in the borderline erotic arkansas texas bowl humiliation. god the way my brain works is so stupid.
  16. florida and vanderbilt need to be switched (and LSU and agros as well) on there if they are actually talking about week 14 and not cumulatively. vanderbilt cratered and florida is rolling.
  17. can't do the transitive property stuff in cfb this year. cfb is too fucking whacky this year. if so, oklahoma state did not win a single game in the big 12 this year (bonkers by the way), but they beat arkansas who beat tennessee who is 3rd in sec and beat bama who beat georgia who beat texas. it's all a bit silly this year. that said, there really is not a team in the big 12 this year that i would be particularly angsty about playing. november asu and september byu would be the two teams that would be the least comfortable going into the game but the rest of them would be an assbeating in my estimation and i would rather play those two teams right now than south carolina. regardless, i would happily take games against indiana or penn state (at home) first and foremost above anyone.
  18. great news! we can counter that disadvantage with the downfield threat and press our wr speed and separation advantage over the top with our hyper accurate deep ball game which will back their guys up and open up the ground game and short passing game. wait. in all seriousness, it remains a challenging matchup for our offense given their sideline to sideline speed and power. to be successful, it is going to require a consistent version of quinn we have all been clamoring for since michigan but have been denied. once again, here's hoping he suddenly plays a great game start to finish...
  19. guys, this is taking a gross turn. not a good look. i personally would like to talk about how the agros started going all ole miss in the second half and having injuries on every positive texas play that went more than 5 yards and then the player miraculously returning a play later. it is seemingly one sec tradition that we had largely avoided this season until saturday. that shit is fucking annoying.
  20. looking for additional ones - we lost the sugar bowl to vt after the 95 season in last year of swc. lost the sugar bowl to washington last year in last year of big 12. we are one season off from playing the back to back national champs wearing red in the conference champ game. corn won it in 94 and 95 and we beat them in 96. uga won in 21 and 22 so one year off. we did wear orange in the 1996 big 12 game. wearing orange this week. would be nice if 1996 ricky could dress out. this one is a bit weak but in 1996, played in an NFL dome for a team competing in what would become an nfc south division team in division with the panthers, falcons, and saints. playing this one in an NFL dome of an nfc south team.
  21. i have to say, i have obviously enjoyed this season a great deal as a passionate texas fan. giving up one total offensive touchdown to the combination of ou, arkansas, and agros (none at home) is fun. going to michigan and beating that ass is fun. choosing not to run up on the score on go gata. ohio state losing two games, clemson sucking, usc sucking. but the one thing that has pissed me off to an extremely irrational point all season is watching missouri stay ranked all year. they have to be the biggest fucking fraud in the history of college football and for some reason, it annoys the ever loving shit out of me that they are getting credit for beating (ranked for quality): vandy (by 3 in overtime at home) ou (by 7 at home) arkansas (by 7 at home) auburn (by 4) miss state boston college (by 6 at home) umass buffalo murray state they played four road games - and the only one they won was basement miss state. they got fucking raped by the agros, bama, and lost at south carolina by an average of 23 points. fuck off missouri...you have no business sniffing any respect.
  22. byu should have cemented its spot in there the minute alabama got its ass blasted by shitass ou. but then they went and lost to kansas at home (a week after they should have lost to utah). that killed any argument they had in my mind.
  23. i have no doubt that someone else has said it but ever since last year when it was obvious we were going to run away with the big 12 championship, I couldn't help but recalling that in 1995, we won the last SWC championship before we left and then turned around and shocked everyone by winning the big 12 in its first year in 1996. we won the last big 12 championship we would compete for and we are playing for the first sec champ game. would be nice to close that loop.
  24. Quinn Ewers will the at the very top of my death certificate. That fucking guy.
  25. Alabama just took the trophy home on the worst fucking ref call of the year. What a complete fucking screw job.
