  1. You act like they wouldn't be doing this even if they were still paying minimum wage lol
  2. The thing is - a traditional market model is an extremely poor model for healthcare. If you're sick and at a hospital, you're probably not going to be price shopping between facilities for the cheapest care and least dickish medical coders. People have no choice but to pony up or die. And wouldn't ya know it, THAT """market""" will bear a shitload of price increases. Because it's life and death. Wow, what a free market lol
  3. This is also the case for basically any medical or doctor or hospital care. They have no idea what it'll cost because it basically just matters what they code it as. And if you disagree with the coding, you can go get bent
  4. I saw this hit my feed but haven't had time to listen to it all. They did mention that the Gettysburg fired two SM-2's, so it sounds like they fired on a returning flight - not just a singleton
  5. Non citizens do get protections within our legal system, at least theoretically. The bill of rights makes no distinction of citizens - it is the right of the PEOPLE.
  6. Tell me you didn't watch the video without telling me lol. LTT was the first example of a YouTuber getting their commission revenue stolen by Honey, which I doubt they'd be cool with What's your reason for feeling so strongly that people were getting paid to stay quiet? That doesn't make any sense to me, and LTT in particular dropped them as a sponsor a while ago. They're not the best ran company, though
  7. Lulz of fucking course. Luigi's judge is married to a former Pfizer exec and personally holds hundreds of thousands in healthcare company stocks https://www.kenklippenstein.com/p/luigi-mangione-judge-married-to-former Classic.
  8. "The Committee determined there is substantial evidence that Representative Gaetz violated House Rules and other standards of conduct prohibiting prostitution, statutory rape, illicit drug use, impermissible gifts, special favors or privileges, and obstruction of Congress" I mean, it's no wonder trump wanted him for AG with a resume like that
  9. Idk, it's state crimes he's being accused of violating. So you'll have to ask Florida why not done. By your logic, Ken Paxton is a perfect lil boy who din do nuffin wrong
  10. CBS news: Matt Gaetz ethics report says his drug use and sex with a minor violated state laws @Balcones get in here and defend this pedophile like a good republican
  11. That is a Titanic fuck up if they really and truly fired off a missile. Like everyone in the chain of command on that vessel is gonna be made an example of
  12. Not a big deal but I just noticed my burnt ends tag isn't showing up anymore. Just got invoiced yesterday though
  13. Holy shit what are people paying $16/mo for on Twitter??? That's outrageous lol
  14. Lotta scuttlebutt in that /r/navy thread that the CIWS was left on auto, as they had recently been intercepting drones. Gonna be interesting whenever the report is released to see the weapon that engaged
  15. Yeah they have more revenue from the US because there's no laws against gouging sick people for care, like there are in Europe. And if most the research funding is coming from NIH - the government - I'm not sure how we NEED to be extracting profits from sick people in order to have medical advances
  16. You'd think an industry that sits on top of the Hippocratic Oath would care more about patient wellbeing than profits. Everything starts and ends with investors. That guarantees that patients will never be the highest priority of that system. Patients have no means to influence the incentive structure that drives all of this ugliness and denial of care.
  17. Wow quite a scene at the Essen v Stuttgart game. During a moment of silence, someone started shouting "Deutschland den Deutschen!" -> "Germany for germans" popular slogan by absolute shitheads "Nazis raus!" -> "Nazis out!" in the response by the crowd Announcer: "...thank you for your sympathy" (signalling end of moment of silence) https://v.redd.it/xypvq8tl6e8e1/DASH_720.mp4 And then the nazi shithead was charged with "incitement of hatred" by the German authorities. It's lovely that the Germans figured out the paradox of tolerance and just do not allow nazis
  18. It's almost like enabling unbounded corporate power with neoliberal economics is the root cause of all of this, or something
  19. Makes me wonder if there's an electronic warfare aspect that would have interfered with the IFF systems, or caused the fire control officers to doubt what they were seeing. I imagine that's a hell of a congested and contested airspace
  20. A doctor isn't getting paid $4,000 but Kelsey Seybold is. That is my entire point. The doctors and nurses and patients - the raison d'etre for this whole thing - are at the end of the whip and subject to whatever comes from on high, and the healthcare industry is holding the other end.
  21. You misunderstand me - you can't get an affordable doctor's appointment without insurance, and paying out of pocket is exorbitantly expensive thanks to insurance inflating the prices too. Sure, I'll make an appointment for my 7mo daughter, go get a 15 minute look over by the doctor and a flu shot. Somehow the EOB says that cost nearly $4000 (our responsibility was $20). How the fuck is a regular Joe supposed to afford that?
  22. I've been in tech for 10 years now, and the teams I have been on were/are pretty diverse. There's not really a majority demographic, aside from tech nerd. In the team I'm on right now, it is pretty much a rainbow of backgrounds. Folks from Columbia, Mexico, India, Pakistan, Singapore, Norway, Houston, etc etc. And yes we definitely have it better than the vast majority of Americans. I have a job that respects my time and gives me opportunities for growth. What a fantastic luxury! No, she said she's not gonna give them the benefit of the doubt. And you replied saying "I'm not defending them BUUUUUT they've got a weally WEALLY hard road ahead" as if that's not just the baseline American experience. Yeah most Americans live an impoverished existence. It's celebrated every quarter when the line goes up while wages stagnate even further. But again - that's been the deal for decades. What's with the scales falling from your eyes all of a sudden?
