  1. Here’s the memo from acting deputy attorney general Emil Bove to FBI leadership ordering the purge of agents who did their jobs.
  2. If the US economy crumbles, where in the world would one go to avoid the fallout?
  3. You’re not a rule of law kind of person, it seems. Because, I expect the government to follow the law. I also now expect thousands of folks to lose their job, and millions to owe additional fees for being late on payments. Further, I expect lower courts to reject these goings on and for the executive branch to largely ignore the judiciary; when this ends up at SCOTUS, I expect pure Calvinball.
  4. The Texas Tribune has a report on uncapped oil wells, and the story probably belongs in the climate thread, but the report focuses on the paltry amount of money designated to address the problem and how none of the money has been spent. Uncapped oil wells are a serious problem. For instance, one well just upped and created a brackish, 60 acre lake, which is emitting hydrogen sulfide, among other toxic substances. Texas is not a serious state. https://www.texastribune.org/2025/02/04/texas-leaking-abandoned-oil-water-wells-tceq-railroad-commission/
  5. Bad news for bourbon distilleries, as Canada used to buy more bourbon than any other country- “New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt said Monday she planned to remove U.S. alcohol from N.B. Liquor stores and avoid signing all but the most essential new contracts with U.S. firms as a response to President Donald Trump's tariffs. But she put part of that on hold late in the day, after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the U.S. president would delay the tariffs by 30 days. "For now, American products will remain on ANBL shelves but we will not be purchasing new product,” Holt said in a statement. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/new-brunswick-tariff-response-alcohol-1.7449099
  6. This puzzles me. “Elon Musk announced that he has dissolved the Internal Revenue Service’s free file program, effectively firing the staff who worked on the popular program, the Daily Beast reports. The billionaire revealed that he “deleted” the group of individuals who oversaw the system that allows Americans to easily file their taxes for free on the IRS website” https://politicalwire.com/2025/02/03/musk-says-hes-deleted-free-irs-tax-filing-program/?utm_source=bluesky&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=hubbub-pro
  7. I have bailed on more than one concert, wife in tow, due to repeated air foulings. She never complains. Nor does she mention my hypocrisy. In my defense, I wouldn’t rip a fart I knew would be disgusting in a public forum.
  8. Not a threat. I get why you think that, but, unless you darken my doorway, it wasn’t a threat. Maybe Surly is not gentle enough for you
  9. Hey, @Incredulity, fuck you. I was referencing this post, which was discussed by others. You are ignored by me, and by others, so I am spoilering your ass showing.
  10. @Incredulity must be dumberfounded.
  11. On the off chance this somehow ends up being tied around the turnip and he is prosecuted for market manipulation, the guano guzzlers will shout,”Lawfare!”
  12. Rex is gonna be pissed.
  13. Former US Ambassador to Russia says you’re overdoing the scatmunching.
