  1. Full faith and credit clause is dead? Also, I don’t get what you’re saying out of this: ”The Respect for Marriage Act, abbreviated as RFMA (H.R. 8404, S. 4556), is a bill in the United States Congress to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and require the U.S. federal government to recognize the validity of same-sex and interracial marriages in the United States.” Edited to say that the RFMA does require states to recognize same sex marriages, but, yes, states can refuse to allow such ceremonies within their borders. Still, repealing DOMA’s shittery is a step forward.
  2. This time, no court in the land will be able to deny the evidence! Thousands of citizens will be filing affidavits… He and Flynn need to coordinate better.
  3. Reportedly, he thinks announcing will make an indictment more difficult. I’ll be surprised if Garland indicts. He has done nothing to bolster DOJ, in my estimation. From the NYT: ”And the Justice Department is fully resuming its two Trump investigations after a brief pause(!?!) for the midterm elections.” [Bold font my own change in the quote, as well as the parenthetical punctuations]. Quit saying our DOJ is above politics, for crying out loud. Politics ought have nothing to do with investigating, or prosecuting, crime. Clearly, that isn’t how Garland operates. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/15/us/politics/trump-2024-doj-inquiries.html
  4. Double checked, and here is where this belongs. I was entertained by AOC discussing the reorganization of the House’s power, post ‘22 election. https://www.instagram.com/tv/Ck92PfUolhz/?igshid=MDJmNzVkMjY%3D
  5. There’s .no connection at all. Sorry. I was on a search for the J6 thread, found it on the second page, and my finger slipped/wasn’t vigilant, and here we are. Mea culpa.
  6. Paxton convinced the Texas SC to not count votes cast by folks who relied on the extension of voting hours in Harris, but, it is unclear if Bell County was also ordered not to count ballots cast during their extended hours. https://wacotrib.com/news/state-and-regional/texas-supreme-court-intervenes-in-extension-of-harris-county-voting-hours-bell-county-also-delayed/article_f635e0c8-6012-11ed-8014-5300fabafbdd.html
  7. @Anastasis has ridiculed the death penalty as barbaric. I’d bet he is anti-war, too. But, he (assuming I understood his motivations) is certainly faced with real life conflicts between his political affiliation and his reverence of life, which go beyond Republican war hawks, national security and soft-on-crime demagoguery. It must be difficult to argue that sanctity of life demands a rape victim carry the rapist’s child, for example, yet voting for a political party that enacts such laws has to cause dissonance. Based on when and what he contributes, I think it fair to say his single issue vote is willing to abandon this Republic’s freedom of religion and Rule of Law. Continued support for Republicans, today, begs a rebuttal as to the contrary. I find it strange that religions are not allowed the right to change, or be wrong. To have a new perspective. Certainly, the Abrahamic God is described as changing His relationship with Man. We put almost total faith in science, with its built in unless-facts-prove-otherwise clause. Is any religion free of man’s failings?
  8. I’ll give you that he’s a staunch believer. He is too insecure not to be. He must protect his house of cards at all costs. So, the definition of life is wrong, and science ‘s definition is right.. Except when science’s definition is wrong, then certain words can be omitted. Of course his logic is flawed., it relies on malleable fact (words.) I have reason to think his beliefs stem from religious fundamentalism, as opposition to abortion is a significant indicator of being such. Perhaps there’s a discussion to be found where @Anastasis makes clear his morality has no religious basis. I haven’t read it. Just in time. Nothing in that suggests my gut is wrong in thinking he’s an old school Catholic. Religious fundamentalists, of all stripes, share the subjugation of women as a precept. To be fair, that precept is couched in cotton balls and flowers, but that’s the net result.
  9. What’s it like, living in a mind-space where one just picks snd chooses what words don’t belong in a definition? (Talk about pedantic)! Or one where your personally preferred definition Trumps (no typo) the definition used by the rest of that language’s speakers? Certainly, the arrogance that mind-space requires prepares a person to determine that the Rule of Law is also a cafeteria style outfit. And, yes, sir. If ending the potential for another child enhances the chance of survival for the family, or species, you do. It’s nothing new. It is an observable phenomenon in nature. This human, father of his family, rests.
  10. I trust you believe me when I say I am not disagreeing with you, when I point out that standard can also be a benchmark for comparison or expectation, alongside its more commonly used meaning: a representative performance. No doubt I do not feel, or see, as keenly, misogyny on Surly, as do our female family members. And the voices that drew me to Surly would not carry the weight I felt if misogyny was a thread in those particular tapestries. We ought claim misogynistic rhetoric has no place on Surly. Apparently, the message doesn’t convey as merely an expectation.
  11. Another awesome proclamation by a bad ass. Sode note, China seems interfere-ish,
