  1. Oil companies enjoyed record peodits during Jimmy’s term, too.
  2. I do show my work when I am not giving an opinion. And, I try to answer questions directly. Maybe you could hazard a guess as to why people are put out by folks talking politics on the political forum. Granted, folks don’t like talking politics with others,* but the hostility towards people talking politics, among themselves, is rather fucked up. Wouldn’t you agree? https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2019/06/19/the-publics-level-of-comfort-talking-politics-and-trump/
  3. I am not ignoring your pragmatism, sir, but I am holding on to an ideal. I would trade a strong, for an honest, president in a heartbeat. Manufacturing an indictment out of whole cloth, btw, should be unthinkable, and the consequences for doing so should equal the most severe punishment meted out under the Law.
  4. C’mon. There is a difference between a clause in our constitution and a reasoned analysis which creates a de facto clause, (and also between civil and criminal offenses.) Want to become president, and remain in office? Make damn sure you can’t be charged with a crime. Otherwise, we go to the next person in the line of succession. Impeachment is a political remedy that is not bound by our criminal code. Ceding criminality to the office of president is not acceptable.
  5. I guess I miss how indicting (and trying) a criminal POTUS is such a threat to our legal system. Don’t think I am talking about one defendant, though. I am making a general statement about criminality in the WH, and stating that an imperial presidency does not jibe with the intent of our founders, as I understand it. We rejected monarchs.
  6. Mueller, you say? “A Republican political strategist was convicted of illegally helping a Russian businessman contribute to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016. Jesse Benton, 44, was pardoned by Trumpin 2020 for a different campaign finance crime, months before he was indicted again on six counts related to facilitating an illegal foreign campaign donation. He was found guilty Thursday on all six counts.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2022/11/17/benton-trump-russian-vasilenko-guilty/ IDGAF about legal analysis. If a POTUS is as dirty as was TFG, they need to be held accountable. Turn the principle into law. No more “unindicted co-conspirators.”
  7. Change the policy that an acting POTUS cannot be indicted. Fuck the imperial presidency.
  8. Call Texas Highways Magazine. What bothers folks, I think, is that politics is discussed at all. Why is that? Edited to answer my own question: Because folks prefer to vote in blissful ignorance. You’re welcome to prove me wrong, but, please, show your work.
  9. Boy, sit down and keep quiet Surly cannot have the largest political forum in the State without folks talking politics.
  10. Why tf wasn’t his gun unloaded? Well regulated our militia ain’t.
  11. The current SCOTUS is an ongoing threat to our freedom. There nutbars have claimed power they do not possess. Rights can only be revoked through the Amendment process. That is original intent.
  12. Lots of Texans are sanguine with religious repression. Right, @Anastasis?
  13. Full faith and credit clause is dead? Also, I don’t get what you’re saying out of this: ”The Respect for Marriage Act, abbreviated as RFMA (H.R. 8404, S. 4556), is a bill in the United States Congress to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and require the U.S. federal government to recognize the validity of same-sex and interracial marriages in the United States.” Edited to say that the RFMA does require states to recognize same sex marriages, but, yes, states can refuse to allow such ceremonies within their borders. Still, repealing DOMA’s shittery is a step forward.
