  1. Yeah- I clearly haven’t thoroughly cleaned the cabin in a while bc my last drink was over 5 years ago. That bottle had been hiding under my head all these years.
  2. Spent the day cleaning up around my hunting cabin because the weather sucks for doing much else. Decided to flip my mattress - you know- get another 15 years out of it. Wouldn’t ya know it. Under the mattress was a 2/3 empty bottle of Beam in that convenient liter plastic traveler (90% of those have to be sold to our kind). Had mixed emotions. So very grateful I don’t have to come to at 4am and take a pull. A little disappointed in my old self that I left a man behind. I was always pretty good at inventory control and waste disposal so that’s out of character. Regardless, I poured it out and had that gratifying feeling like I had moved on from a toxic ex girlfriend who’s now a train wreck.
  3. Playing in games that are always that evenly matched on the scoreboard but against only one team even in the same zip code talent wise? Texas isn’t playing down to the level of the competition, but rather is coached down to the level of the competition. That’s an indictment even if Herman was undefeated at this point.
  4. I get that and I'll admit it was tough. I had huge issues with the higher power concept and had all my thinking convoluted confusing religion with spirituality. I felt the need to believe what other did (or appeared to) but I couldn't do it intellectually. Huge internal struggle most of my life...... What helped me turn the corner was my sponsor asking me a few questions......Was I powerless over anything? I hesitated and he said, that it was evident I was powerless over whiskey and I had to agree. He then asked me if I was could stop the tide from going in and out at the beach. With those answered, he asked IF, since I acknowledged whiskey and the ocean were more powerful than I, was it possible there are other forces more powerful as well. When I agreed it was possible, he had me stop right there and said that was enough.....willingness to believe. That's where it started for me, and sometimes has to restart for me when I get off kilter. That said, I also know some people in AA who in whatever fashion they choose, do not really have a higher power that they acknowledge. It works for them and they're happy and sober so who am I to say what's right or wrong. The goal isn't to ace some compliance test. The goal is to live soberly; happy, joyous and free...... so whatever works sounds like a good plan to me.
  5. Yeah - the Who, Where, & How is all above my pay grade. There is something in control out there, it isn't me, and my job is simply to check in on the regular.
  6. I knew a guy who loved to pull random parts- O-rings, washers, etc. out of his pocket and slip them on to a work surface right before completion just to get people worked up. He found it hilarious, but was smart enough to not let it go on too long, or ever walk away without revealing the joke.
  7. Herman's personality is not one that will handle that gracefully, either.
  8. Take a 1015, peel, cut off the top and scoop out about 1/3 of the center with a grapefruit spoon. Put a dollop of butter and a generous slug of Allegro in the cavity. Wrap in foil and bake or cook in the coals of a fire.
  9. That's funny.....Glad it worked out to be nothing.
  10. Controlled Chaos will be your friend in that case. They won’t linger / suffer but they’ll run like hell for 100-200 yards and out of your feeding/hunting area if you put one behind the shoulder of a big hog.
  11. Main beam length and tine length are where scores are made. A wide spread looks cool but isn’t what adds inches like beams and tines.
  12. That’s a heeluva buck.
  13. Yeah- they splatter.....Just a wounded, infected, pissed off pile of pork still running around.
  14. Big 8's are special. Something about them that is pure and almost regal.
  15. Miiller's Meats in Llano is now shipping their smoked tenderloins....both beef and pork They've stopped all game processing and are 100% focused on retail and wholesale. I had their smoked prime rib in Nov. and it was excellent. I'd try them for the beef tender. They'll package and ship.
  16. Picked these up this week. 10mm has been AWOL at any price but I’m giving these a try as a substitute to my normal Underwood hunting rounds. SG Ammo with this hookup.
  17. I’ve been a big user of Lehigh’s bullets for some time, including the Controlled Chaos. If you’re looking to actually recover hogs then I’d advise CNS shots. Controlled Chaos are very lethal but hogs usually have a lot of run in them if shot behind the shoulder. We don’t choose to recover a lot of our hogs so it’s perfect for us. Very lethal but they usually get a good 100+ yards out before expiring. Gets them out of proximity of feeders and food plots but they don’t suffer / linger like an FMJ or a gut shot. If your hunting them to butcher, the Controlled Chaos is a bit pricy for what needs to be a head / neck shot if you want them DRT and eliminate tracking. If you’re shooting in the ear anyway, save the $ and use an fmj. IMO the Controlled Chaos is more of a self defense round that won’t over-penetrate than a fast recovery game round. They’re in a PCC in my bedroom for home defense, but I only shoot hogs with them if I’m feeding coyotes. Just my real world observations- YMMV Also- love Lehigh Extreme Penetrator and Extreme Cavitator for large bore handgun hunting AND game recovery!!!
  18. LAX Ammunition re-man. has never let me down. I wouldn't shoot someone else's hand loads that I don't know well and trust; As I know plenty of people well......some that I wouldn't trust loading a slingshot for me. A large scale producer of re-manufactured ammo like Gorilla, LAX or any of the others - No worries.
  19. @Brisketexan Color me very jealous. A MAS-49 has been on my list and I've been trying to pick one up at an auction house for a while now, but keep getting pushed over my number. Collectors have been scooping them up. Mind me asking where you found it? I hope the boys doesn't mind the "Never been fired...dropped once." jokes that are sure to follow.
  20. There is a lot of value in numerous Turkish guns if you're looking for something you know will go bang on a budget. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if it fit my need and price point.
  21. Tom being A) Disappointed on a Monday and B) Looking forward to an opportunity to be 1-0 from here ......are more predictable than death and taxes in 2020. Hell, Herman's been the only consistent thing this entire shit show of a year.
  22. Yeah- SG Ammo was sounding the alarms on how cheap stuff was for the past couple of years and kept their prices until all of their inventory was depleted. No profiteering there. Prices only went up when his COG rose. Guy’s honest and up front. As stated above, his newsletter told you it wouldn’t last and to stock up.
  23. Only my experience but when someone is suffering from what many would call low self esteem what I usually see is an overwhelming focus on self, but through a negative lens. If one can focus or be focused on serving others / looking outward, they can’t help but get some relief. It’s moving that magnifying glass that’s concentrating a hurtful beam of light off of self, and flipping it around so the light spreads evenly and comfortably on to others.
