  1. No way this is possible. They're going to have to keep schools open at half capacity and shut down a lot of sports. The cafeteria will also have to be distanced and lunch will need to be split into groups. That's just my spitballing on the obvious problems. If schools open and kids attend one week then take online classes the next, how will parents be able to work? I've read a little about how Asian countries are handling school but it seems asinine to be thinking about opening schools with how the virus is burning through America.
  2. He's got a party line to enforce that it's not his fault, it's the big cities and the Democrats in power there. Or that it's the young folks fault that Abbott allowed bars and stuff to open.
  3. Always has been. On the other hand it's good to see him floundering about for some sort of culture war to stick in the public discourse and it just isn't. I don't feel sorry for him.
  4. I'm glad that most of these are falling on deaf ears now. He's indefensible with the covid shit happening.
  5. One thing I forgot to mention, there may not be fatalities due to covid in young people right now, but who's to say it won't result in complications for them later on in life? We may not fully know this piece of the puzzle for years to come. Basically I'm saying wear masks.
  6. Seems as if most of the spread is in younger folks. If their number keeps rising then it's only a matter of time before Covid makes its way to infecting older populations at a higher rate. Once that happens, fatalities will skyrocket.
  7. SIAP, from the Texas Tribune. I don't buy the crossroads region being so low with Victoria having a large outbreak but the other data seems to track.
  8. From Pro Publica: The percent testing will dip in Texas once these sites close though.
  9. Yes, exactly. If there is a virus ripping through your population, then adding a meager amount of profit and taxes is meaningless to your economy. In fact, if we have to shut down all over again (which we should) then the overall cost of covid will be even higher. This was the risk that Abbott and many GOP governors took on, while every Public Health guideline was telling them no.
  10. The idea was that if businesses were allowed to open, then people would go back to work and the states wouldn't have to pay as much in unemployment benefits. Plus the big donors wanted states to open up so they could conduct non-essential business again.
  11. Unfortunately he isn't up for re-election for a while so we will have to wait this out and continually hammer in how bad Abbott was during the time of Covid. And when he is up, there are few out there as good as Abbott at fundraising so it will be an uphill battle. If he cared for the state and not his party, he would shut down the state and ask the counties to follow CDC guidelines. But I suspect that once the state was opened there was no going back.
  12. I've been going back and forth on this issue since it was brought up, but ultimately I've decided that the University of Texas is greater than one fight song. If that's the hangup with the boosters/alums/fans, then is it really something that important? Even though I am younger than most of you, I've already seen lots of new traditions and changes take form at UTexas. Is it really so difficult to start a different one? I guess what I'm trying to say is, this doesn't feel like a deal breaker to me. I'd imagine that if we make the change, some will be bitter. But in time most people won't remember this debate, or care, once the dust settles.
  13. There was a tweet a few days ago about Los Angeles USD returning grenade launchers due to the ongoing protests. I had to read it twice because I couldn't believe a school district thought it was a good idea to keep grenade launchers around. The fuck? I imagine it was something they got for free.
  14. Alternatively, you also want to avoid being Iowa where it seems like you're just trying to wait this out.
  15. First of all, wow there are so many better things to do than to listen to Ted meander about anything. Second, it's very on point for Ted to pick Trump over his wife on anything.
  16. Most modern is going to be Run the Jewels. It's also fitting because an honorary member of Run The Jewels is RATM's Zach de la Rocha. Killer Mike's line on Walking In The Snow gives me chills: They promise education, but really they give you tests and scores And they predictin' prison population by who scoring the lowest And usually the lowest scores the poorest and they look like meAnd every day on evening news they feed you fear for free And you so numb you watch the cops choke out a man like me And 'til my voice goes from a shriek to whisper, "I can't breathe"
  17. Meanwhile, the WH was urging unity earlier. I mentioned this a couple of days ago, states having to compete with each other is a special hell.
  18. Chooky this is so big brained I feel inspired. How have you not been put in charge of this by Trump yet??
  19. I'm not sure where else to ask this so I'm just proceeding. As a young person, is this the best time to buy a home? I've been saving up enough for a down payment, but should I let the housing market situation play out a little more or should I be actively looking to purchase right now? Open question for all. Would love some advice from older folks here.
  20. Governors have a right to be pissed. I think Trump's context was that states shouldn't wait on the Govt to procure supplies and should try to get what they need. But that opens us up to states fighting for limited medical supplies and that's a whole other can of worms.
  21. Pick one of a bunch of things Trump will blame: CNN, caravans!!1!, Strzok and Page, Mueller, Pelosi/Schumer, or even the entire state of California. Is there a link? Doesn't matter.
  22. Just by hitting on QB, this class is already a moderate success. Cosmi, and GJ make it decently better. It's not an elite class, but it's one that filled a lot of needs on the roster. A&M has no room to argue.
