  1. Valuable addition to the discussion (wait, is that allowed on Surly?). Keep in mind that ESPN did a really good job of NOT showing what was happening with the medical team, as well they should. All we see is the first 20-ish seconds where there is clear alarm and radio communications taking place to get the needed equipment en route. Athletic Trainers essentially must assume a cervical spine injury as a possible component in situations like this, so they need to stabilize the head and neck and remove the facemask before even an ABC (airway, breathing, circulation) assessment can truly be performed. We have no clue how much time passed before CPR was initiated or how long it lasted. It is also possible that they cardioverted him temporarily, and he went back into VT or VF precipitating the need to drop the gurney back down and resumption of CPR. We don't know a heck of a lot more than we actually know right now, and deservedly so.
  2. Well, you haven't said what you do, but I would assume based on your comments that you are EMS and not part of an NFL sports medicine staff. Shitbags in EMS, no doubt, but bringing up potential medical negligence knowing what we know now is a bold strategy, Cotton.
  3. Precisely why the "doc" was in quotations. I work for an ICD manufacturer now, but in my former life I was an ATC, so I did exactly that. No need to start swinging your credentials around.
  4. Easy there, "doc." Let me see you go from standing on the sidelines seeing your player go down, get to him, assess what he needs, cut through his jersey, shoulder pads and undershirt - not to mention stabilize his head because at this point you don't know there isn't a C-spine component to this), remove the facemask, get the LifePak out there and light him up in 30 seconds. From what we know at this point there is exactly ZERO reason to believe the medical staff did anything short of an amazing job handling the situation. They train for this type of situation regularly. They are the best of the best at their field just like the players are.
  5. Not a doctor. Did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. However, I did work as an athletic trainer for several years and currently work in cardiac rhythm management. Looked a crap-ton like sudden cardiac arrest. But what do I know?
  6. Shoulder pads are cut away very quickly in a situation like this. The CPR and the pad application from the AED would be straight to the skin. I was watching the game when this happened and immediately noticed the sense of urgency in the medical staff from both teams, then they showed the replay and showed him drop - classic appearance of sudden cardiac arrest. Commotio cordis is possible, but unlikely through shoulder pads. Either way, treatment is the same - defibrillation to restore normal rhythm and CPR until the defibrillator is successful.
  7. I know that (former ATC). Just would not have thought the choice would be Grady. Sorry for the hospital talk not going away.
  8. MVA? Sure. GSW? No question. Football related trauma? Hard pass.
  9. OSU player taken to Grady? We should all say a prayer for him - not because he’s hurt, but to improve his chances of surviving a Grady trip. why not Crawford Long?!?
  10. For all of you currently battling cancer, I raise my glass to you all with warm wishes for a positive 2023. Keep kicking cancer’s ass!!
  11. This did not disappoint. Benefits of having a family member that works for a distributor.
  12. Correct. That broadcaster is also a graduate of the same high school. I’m sure the excitement got to her a little. My daughter is a current student at that same school, and happens to be a member of the volleyball team. Not playing quite up to Logan’s level, however…
  13. Please tell me there is video of the 'explosion' and immediate aftermath......
  14. Yes. Lead-free roofing materials.
  15. http://nypost.com/2022/12/14/twitch-dead-at-40-stephen-boss-was-ellen-degeneres-dj/amp/ Self-inflicted acute lead poisoning. Furk. Can’t get the link to work. Sorry.
  16. Anyone who had the Pirate on their list should be PermaBanned.
  17. It’s not exactly cheap this way either…

Brisket, please tell me you were already on a blood thinner!
  19. This comment set off my Sarcasmatron 8000.
  20. As a VB parent, I personally am offended by that comment. But in general, pretty good advice...
  21. Your life does not suck.
  22. Looks like we have our prime suspect...
  23. This thread has been kind of slow recently. Makes me nervous.
  24. An Old Fashioned made with WT101 and Peychauds to celebrate Turkey Day tonight. It did not disappoint.
  25. You have to consider the environment. UK FB is the red headed stepchild on campus behind mens hoops. His consistent level of quasi-success keeps boosters tickled pink. Stoops couldn’t ask for a better gig.
