  1. The issue with this list is Texas football has a very long and rich history. We tend to have a bias to modern players. You have a player like Hub Bechtol that is a 3x All-American. Nobody on here would mention him (maybe @Armybrat). There have only been 2 Longhorns to ever be a 3x AA, Russel Erxleben is the other. It is kind of good to use AA and awards to winnow the list down and bring up names that certainly belong in the discussion, even if we have not seen them. You dont have to be strict on it, but its better than the "player X was more awesomer" argument.
  2. Thorpe is an award for a position/group. Its not a standard that would knock Vince out. Vince has Davey OBrien, Maxwell, and Manning Awards. I am sure there is someone that you could argue on the positional award criteria, but it is a solid jumping off pt for picking the greatest Longhorns ever.
  3. I didnt put them on there. I thought Gray, Vasher, and Johnson had to be on the list. Picking #4 is a bitch.
  4. I think Vasher is on. He is one of three 2x All-Americans. VY is also in the College HOF, so he is obviously on. The point is DB is arguably the most competitive position if you are doing a MT Rushmore for Texas. To be on the DB list you pretty much need 2 All-Amreican caliber seasons or an absolutely elite season.
  5. There have been 18 DBs that were 1st team All-Americans. That is the first cut. 2 time All-Americans: Vasher, Gray, and Johnnie Johnson. 3 Thorpe award winners (Huff, Ross, Barron), since it started being awarded in 1986. Feels like to be in the discussion you have to at least be a 1x All-American and have a Thorpe (if after 86). Gray and Johnson are in the College HOF, so they need to be on any Texas DB list. If you pick 4 to be on the Mount Rushmore, you are going to be leaving some serious bad asses off the list.
  6. LSU team I would argue.. Offense was great. The skill players were insane. The OL was pretty mediocre. The defense wasn’t a powerhouse. We saw that in DKR.. I don’t think they are legit comp to a team like Miami 01. Think there is some recency bias and skill position bias to that one
  7. I get it, but it is more about getting there in time than needing a big ass. I anticipate LB being one of the strongest positions on the team. It's to the pt that I am wondering how much we see Moore playing off-ball LB (outside of specialty packages). (Sark was very complimentary of Lefau and Spence during Spring ball. Since its the off-season I am going to assume that is 100% accurate and not just coach speak)
  8. I think Ant Hill is being underrated here. I am betting this is the year that he puts it all together and becomes a complete LB. He is already one of the better hitters and playmakers in CFB. I will bet year 3 you see him make a big step in ability to read his keys and diagnose plays.
  9. That’s funny. I was going type something similar. It does make me laugh when it works. Texas runs it so much, how are teams not prepared.
  10. I caught part of it, maybe I missed that. I saw him mention that scouts were saying maybe Ewers isnt as good as we thought when he was coming out as a recruit. Basically implying a 5 star doesn’t mean he is going to be one of the best QBs int he nation. To me that is just playing the odds. It’s usually a good bet to say the new starter isn’t going to be a HOF QB or #1 pick. Not like he said he thinks Arch is going to suck. He just said he isn’t buying the hype. That’s fine, it’s up to Arch to prove him wrong.
  11. that railroad play has produced TDs every year. Blue had a few this year. Felt like Bijan would get one every couple games. it has consistently produced big plays for Sark.
  12. Tuberville- yes I saw Murray and McElroy said pretty much the same thing. McElroy left him off his top 10 QB list. He said there just isnt enough tape to put him on a top 10 list. It is a reasonable position. I think Arch will be great, but he does not have a lot of experience. No issues with anyone saying he hasnt earned a top 10 ranking or a 1st pick projection until he puts it on tape.
  13. Love the picture for the irony of having the "Lite" by T'Vondre's helmet
  14. Interesting off-season debate. I think the 2 most important recruits were Chris Simms and Arch. Relying on the opinion of guys like Babers on Simms, he has said that made Texas the cool school. #1 recruit son of NFL QB was boost to Mack. Sark getting the stamp of approval from the Manning family was a huge and something no other single recruit could give the program.
  15. Its even stupid for social media. Gorilla's are generally shy and peaceful animals. I dont think there has ever been a fatal gorilla attack.
  16. I dont think either OT was 100% to end the year. Cam was looking especially rough the last 2 games. I still question if he should have been out there. Crazy thing is I think Texas will be more athletic on the OL this year. Might be better run blocking group, the prior OLs were more built for pass pro
  17. or A&M, Clemson, and Michigan, but why bring that up?
  18. sark didnt decide to not help his limited QB. OL had a few injuries themselves, but why acknowledge that? https://www.secsports.com/sport/football/stats Rank Team G ATT YDS AVG TD YDS/G 1 Alabama 8 294 1289 4.4 25 161.1 2 Auburn 8 278 1217 4.4 6 152.1 3 Texas 9 319 1378 4.3 11 153.1 4 Texas A&M 8 343 1467 4.3 18 183.4 5 Tennessee 8 361 1534 4.2 14 191.8 6 Florida 8 285 1202 4.2 15 150.3 7 Arkansas 8 291 1174 4.0 14 146.8 8 South Carolina 8 321 1288 4.0 12 161.0 9 Mississippi St. 8 300 1121 3.7 10 140.1 10 Ole Miss 8 307 1141 3.7 11 142.6 11 Missouri 8 327 1208 3.7 11 151.0 12 Georgia 9 286 1029 3.6 17 114.3 13 Vanderbilt 8 279 993 3.6 7 124.1 14 LSU 8 245 864 3.5 9 108.0 15 Kentucky 8 299 969 3.2 4 121.1 16 Oklahoma 8 319 1001 3.1 6 125.1 That is in conference ranking on average yards per. Texas was top 3 in the SEC, that includes QB rushing stats. So lets not shit on the OL too much. I get it they did not run the ball well vs teams with 11 NFL players on defense, but overall they were pretty good.
  19. I just think it was poorly played. The Deep safety completely blew his assignment and got caught eyeing Moore (?) on his out (Xavier Alford). The other guy just bit hard on Golden's jab step. They are blitzing, which was picked up, but there is no reason for Alford not to be the deepest man in that situation. Perhaps the DBs were over-aggressive thinking the pressure would get home and the pass would have to come out quick. They did drop 6. I put this more on execution, than play call. I would guess you hated PK's call on the screen more. To be sadistic I could say Orlando's 4th down call vs LSU.
  20. Still amazes me how Golden was able to get behind the defense. ASU secondary coach has probably watched that 100 times wondering how #2 took a false step to the out route and #7 bites on Golden's fake. Golden wide open to the point he turns around and waits on the ball and he is still 5 yards behind them.
  21. Yes, Texas wins if the defense plays like they did vs A&M. Defense was able to overcome the offense multiple times and they clearly wore down vs ASU. The big reason being the offense was terrible for long portions of the game. Neither side is without blame, but going after the defense is just wrong.
  22. that is not true. Texas beats ASU in regulation without that interception. Offense scored 17 pts in regulation. The offense was bad most of that game.. After the opening TD drive (77 yards) Drive 2: 3 plays -2 yards Drive 3: 13 plays 72 yards Drive 4: 3 plays 5 yards Drive 5: 3 plays -3 yards Drive 6: 1 play -2 yards Safety Drive 7L 13 pays 76 yards TD Drive 8: 2 plays Int Drive: 9 35 yards missed FG 5 of the 9 drives in regulation were 3 or less plays, that is gross. They gave up 2 pts directly on the sack and game changing interception on 2nd and 4 that led to a TD.
  23. That is really not the question. Self-sack generally goes to a QBs ability to either move in the proper direction or the ability to throw it away/complete a pass. You wont get a "self-sack" for someone completely whiffing on a pass rusher.
  24. That is an internet/social media thing. You have to be on the extremes
  25. there is only 10 players in the screen. There is a CB on outside WR that is off the screen at the bottom
