  1. OL was probably better, but that is it. The defense was light out. Big difference being the 2nd/3rd WR. Saying a QB needs to have 3 NFL WRs to be a great college QB is not a serious argument in my opinion. Its really rare for college QBs to get that luxury, unless you play QB at OSU recently. There are not a lot of QBs last year that had equal or more talent.
  2. That is definitely it, evidence by Maalik finishing 71st in QBR, 13 turnovers in 12 games, and the high demand for him in the portal
  3. Very possible, but you could use the DTs that way and PK has done that (play DT at Jack and bump the Jack to Buck). I would guess you will see that this year, given the absurd depth at DT. I usually worry about assignment soundness and play strength, when it comes to freshmen DL. Lot of them have the size, but not necessarily the play strength to line up vs OL that have been in college S&C programs 3-4 years longer. It is early in camp, so I take it all with a grain of salt. Coaches move people around for all types of reasons.
  4. Interesting that is a big ass Buck. He projects to Jack long term. Guessing they are just putting him there to get more snaps.
  5. Buck: Simmons, Zina, Spence, Orogbo Jack: Burke, Vasek, Jackson, and assume Terry.
  6. This is exactly what I am talking about. We all know the Duke offense was the worst unit on the field for Duke. We know the offense struggled. We know the Duke coaches brought in someone to upgrade the QB position in the portal. Despite all of that, you argue he did his job. As the saying goes "Do not let the facts get in the way of truth".
  7. I didnt say a losing record. I said he was undefeated at Texas because he was surrounded by NFL talent. He lost (games) at Duke, because he was surrounded by mediocre talent. The point was people need to stop using simple records as a barometer for QB play. Just because a team wins at a high level, it does not mean the QB played at a high level. By the way, we could make the same argument for Maalik. The Duke offense finished #96 in FEI and the defense #30. The Duke coaches seem to have understood my statement.
  8. Quinn was contributor to Texas's success the last 3 years. He was not the main reason. The NFL draft was evidence of that. Maalik never lost at Texas, because he was surrounded by NFL talent. He lost at Duke, because he was surrounded by mediocre talent. QB is the only position on the field that people pretend team success is a barometer for individual play. The defense led Texas to the playoffs the last 2 years, but nobody is going to say Sorrell is a legend based on that
  9. It’s a bit tougher on the QB. Lot of back to the defense, turn, and make a quick read. The best part is I may not have to watch a 3rd and 2 out of the shotgun this season
  10. pretty good Some Manniing stats: 8-19 beyond 20 yards 41 yards per comp 1-10 yards: 42-48 384 yards vs blitz 22-33 350 yards 5 TDs and 0 int vs Pressure 7-16 160 (10 yards per attempt) Hits on Wisner, Endries, Mosley, Goosby (319 snaps, 5 pressures, 1 penalty, 0 Qb hits)
  11. I think you can say that about the entire RB room. Wisner is the lone known commodity. The rest are options, either based on health or youth. Really need 2 to hit and 1 to hit early. It will probably be a favorite topic for the 9.95s in August. I am prepared for player X is separating, only to see player Y is separating 3 days later.
  12. This is just comparison in one facet, not overall. It it tells you Texas is struggling in the redzone. I assumed most would look at the numbers and just say they confirm what their eyes have told them, but it is the internet, so someone needs to argue. Unfortunately, BCF Toys is down, so this is the best I could of stats.
  13. This is true, but Kicking has been an issue for a singular year (1st year it has been sub 80% under Sark/Banks). The 45-55 discussion is just a distraction. Having a kicker that is reliable outside of 45 yards in college is a luxury. Texas has been lucky in that regard. Redzone scoring percentage: 2021: 4th (Sark's first year) 2022: 19th 2023: 80th 2024: 101st not a great trend TD% in redzone 2021: 4th 2022: 65th 2023: 120th 2024: 54th not quite the same linear trend, but ugly none the less.
  14. Or get better in the redzone.
  15. I think Bouwmeester is a huge pick up for Texas. Punting game was terrible last year. Texas finished 15th in Punt average with 40.78 (https://cfbstats.com/2024/leader/911/team/offense/split01/category06/sort01.html). Kern was 115th in the nation (https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/years/2024-punting.html). Georgia Game 1: Georgia: 4 punts 216 yards (54 per) vs 5 for 219 (43.8 per).. 10 yards a punt Texas lost. Game 2: Georgia: 4 for 214 (53.5) vs 2 for 78 (39). 23.5 yard difference and that does not factor in the fake punt Overall in 2 games Georgia 8 punts for 430 vs 7 punts for 297 for Texas... lot of hidden yards in those games in special teams.
  16. Surly tailgate may need to add some https://olesmoky.com/products/white-lightnin for @closetojumping to drink every time Livingstone scores a TD.
  17. This may be asking for too much, but I am dying to see what a healthy Vasek looks like for a full season. He was very disruptive in his snaps last year, albeit a small sample size. I think Babers said he had the highest pressure rate on the defense. That is a very talented and competitive room, not sure if both Justus and Lance will be a meaningful part of the rotation. Keep in mind it sounds like Spence and Hill will have packages where they are on the Edge.
  18. One of the knocks on his scouting report is he lacks burst. He is 6'6" so that stride will make up ground later. That makes sense given he didnt run the 100m in HS, 200m is not very good, and the 400m is solid. More of a possession/jump ball guy, than an explosive WR. Again, that is something Georgia needed. I just dont see that profile as a 1st round potential guy. Perhaps my read on him is wrong, we will find out.
  19. You are going to have Taffee making the calls during the season. Saw a report that they are muzzling him for fall camp, so the others can make the calls. I am not sure how the other safety is going to work out with Wiliams and McDonald, but both have had quality time on the field. Given McDdonald has reportedly gotten time at Star, he may be the guy that bounces around (both safety spots and star). If that happens, I could see him as the match-up chess piece. Run heavy team and McDonald starts at star with Williams at Safety. Just an aside, those 2 are bring the wood in the run game. I think McDonald missed something like 1 tackle last year, that is ridiculous. I am hoping Black wins the other CB, but if not, Texas will not have a single player without real game experience. The one concern I have is Texas doesnt have a true #1 Cb on the team, but that will get answered quickly vs OSU
  20. Its hard to expect production that we have seen the last 2 years, but I do not see it as an issue. Cuse guy has real upside. Purdue (Brevard) guy seems like someone that can anchor at the LOS, not going to give you much pass rush. It is also very deep. I think it has an above conference average floor and if Maraad Watson (Freshmen AA at Cuse last year) and/or January break out as disruptors it has a chance to be a real strength of the defense.
  21. I dont think he is an athletic freak. I dont see him running the 100m in HS. I see his 23.73 senior record in the 200m as senior and 47.84 400m personal record. Different races, but those are not implying he is a burner. His strength is his length. That said if he can just catch the ball consistently, which he can, he will upgrade the Georgia WR room. They led the nation in drops last year. https://www.thedraftnetwork.com/2024/06/13/noah-thomas-scouting-report-nfl-draft
  22. There is always a chance he is Trevor Lawrence, Manziel, or Mayfield (painful to put those 2 in). CFB is an old game, we can both find people of either side of this equation. Maybe he is James Street. He comes in and never loses a game. You should not be upset with anyone, it is just typical preseason BS lists.
  23. Branch is an athletic freak. He hasnt shown to be very good at football. If Lincoln Riley cannot figure out how to get him going, no chance Bobo can. Anderson showed potential at OU. If he is fully recovered, he could certainly make noise. He also has a good QB.
  24. Texas was 74th in the country last year in 2nd half scoring (12.4). . #9 in fist half scoring (19.4) 11th in 1Q (8.1) 10th in 2Q (11.4) 65th in 3Q (5.8 pts) 75th in 4Q (6.7 pts) You could argue Texas had comfortable leads in the 4Q that depressed the number. 3Q was just shitty.
