  1. I wouldn’t expect either offense to run the ball well. OU has real issue on the OL. Their DBs did struggle vs Auburn in 1 on 1s (Auburn has 1 of the best WR rooms). They were getting beat deep. This looks like a rock fight, that explosives and turnovers will make the difference.
  2. If you do it every game, you are a douche if you do it once, tell people to stop being pussies
  3. I really don’t give a shit on this. If anything I liked it at the time. I don’t won’t to see it again, but Arch needed to play with confidence and show some emotion. If it takes a little taunt vs a paraplegic to get his swagger back, I am fine with it
  4. Easier to cover playing CB than Nickle and a lot less asked mentally.
  5. He is giving up 10 yards a target according to Babers. The big TD vs OSU is inflating that, but it is not good. He is probably the biggest worry on the defense. People will target him and Littleton. Littleton is young and I expect another game like SJSU, but I am reasonably confident he will be a reliable positive for the defense later in the year. I do not have the same confidence on Guilbeau.
  6. That is 100% true. It near impossible to predict how the mind works. Anyone married and/or with children can confirm that. I just think Manning sat there all off-season wondering if he could live up to the hype. Perhaps if he had done it for 5-7 game that would not have been there, but who the hell knows.
  7. I completely agree, but that is pretty common with young runner in year 1. I think Clark is the most elusive RB on the roster. You can see his cutting ability. I am sure in HS he was able to bounce things outside and get the edge 80-90% of the time. Sometimes it takes a while before they realize that shit doesnt work in college. Physical aspect is very obvious. The question now is does he have poor vision or just the typical bad habits of a young RB.
  8. Changing the variables can significantly alter the results. I have wondered if Arch took over last year, if he and Texas are not in a much better spot this year.
  9. I am honestly excited to see Simon mature. He looks exactly what this offense needs. He showed solid vision and toughness. I did not see much pass pro, so that might be an issue. If it is, the staff needs to drill him on it hard to get him ready.
  10. Why are you bringing up Clemson? They finished 16th in rush defense in the ACC last year (out of 17 teams) and 85th in the nation. That was a terrible rush defense. By the way, Texas A&M finished 11th in rush yards per play allowed in the SEC. Both of those defenses were below average in their conference (Clemson being horrific). My point was not that the OL was terrible at running the ball the last few years, it was that they have not been physical. They are screeners and ran outside zone. That type of blocking can struggle in short yardage situations, because they do not move people. You also need to be athletic and have RBs with great vision to run it successfully. Texas is migrating away from outside zone to gap blocking this year. That requires a more physical mindset and moving people. As you probably saw I sounded the alarm about the OL watching the OSU game. Since then, I have seen this OL struggle to run vs SJSU and UTEP. It is early, so things can change but I have my reservations about this run game. I was just talking about how much I loved watching Simon vs UTEP. He ran for 3.9 per carry and averaged 4.2 yards after contact. Imagine what Simon would have looked like if the OL gave him a couple yards before contact, instead of slightly behind the LOS. To be honest, I did not think saying the OL lacked physicality would be controversial. It is odd to me, because the DL is really physical and has been for 3 years or so.
  11. I get that. Sark is not immune to criticism here, but being able to run the ball in short field situations makes calling plays 100x easier
  12. Ill put this as a counter. Physicality has been a continual issue with the OL. People continue to bitch about Sark and the play calls in the redzone. The bigger issue the last few years, is the OL cannot move people. They are generally screeners. I kind of got that when the line was more athletic. They are less athletic and through 3 games still appear to be a finesse OL. Arch is currently the most pressured QB in the SEC. The number is in the high 30s as a percentile of drop backs. That is vs pretty weak DLs and an OSU team that played coverage the vast majority of the game (also why the run game looked better)
  13. I prefaced it with that, so no disagreement here.
  14. it is super slow motion, so it is easy to make judgements. This is what I am looking at Arch has been flushed and moving up in the pocket. He can gear it down. second later he is not looking at Arch and just running his route appearing to be unaware that Arch is on the move He ends up out here I am just saying I think a more polished veteran WR would recognize his QB has been flushed and would adjust his route, but maybe that is not taught, or they just do not have that type of chemistry. it is not something that is major issue, just some of the little things Texas is not doing as an offense.
  15. It was in reference to Arch using his legs on improvised scrambles and that can get you outside of the scheme. It gave me the impression that Sark is a stickler to scheme. Just my opinion, but right now the offense just needs success anyway they can find it. They look broken right now. IMO restoring confidence is paramount at this time. Little success could get them to loosen up and perhaps not look like they are attending a wake. Scheme is useless if your players have 0 belief.
  16. That reminds me Sark said he does not want to play "athlete football" in his presser. That was a WTF moment for me. Texas has better athletes than 75-80% of their opponents, why the hell would you not want to press that advantage
  17. I had a coach who used to say that you need to master the fundamentals, so you know when you can break them. I feel like this is lost with a lot of younger QBs. They are working on all these screwed up arm angles and off platform throws and forgetting about how to make consistently accurate fundamental throws.
  18. Clark looks like he has some nice cutting ability and quickness. The issue is he cuts to nowhere. I get Simon is a true freshman, but he looked like the best runner on the team (albeit in a very small sample size). Shows good vision and I love how every run he seems to be falling forward at the end. When I say get him ready, that means drill him on pass pro. Just do not know how he was 5th on the depth chart, but perhaps it is just a small sample size.
  19. These runs with Simon just make me ask why have we not seen this guy until this game. I heard this stat on Simon, he averaged 3.9 yards per carry in this game and 4.2 yards after carry. Just think about that. He is 2nd on the team in forced missed tackles with 5 on 16 carries (Arch #1, 9 on 23). He needs to be on the field more. Staff needs to get him ready.
  20. Clark has not displayed good vision. I would like Wingo to sit on that 4th down play when he sees Manning step up and move to his left. The throw is much easier if Wingo realizes his QB is moving up and to the left and sits, instead of continuing to run away from his QB. I know that is more of a veteran WR play, but these are the little things the offense is not doing.
  21. I am normally in the Go for it camp, but this is a different situation. Offense is 28% on 3rd downs and 41% on 4th downs, so they have been bad in critical situations. Punter has been good. The defense has been excellent. You have to factor these things in. That and punt into the endzone comes out to the 20, so it is 20-25 yards. Give up the ball on the 40-45 yard line and you are 1 decent offensive play away from giving up pts. The defense gives up at least 10 yards on a drive 58% of the time this year. Even if the defense forces a 3 and out, you are flipping the field position game. Giving the ball to an offense that has 15% busted drive rate (0 or less yards) inside the 20. The situational book is calculated based on average offenses, that is not pertinent to Texas. If the offense improved, I would leave the dark side and jump back on the "go for it" train. I just do not see it right now.
  22. I said this before, what is the drill to fix the Arch's mental state? I have 0 idea. I think Arch needs to fix Arch. This is one reason why I have hammered the other ugly aspects of the offense. I feel like there is a lot of improvement to be had across the offense. Those other aspects can be improved with accountability and practice. I am not sure you can say that for Arch. Even outside of Arch, I feel like the majority of the offense performs their responsibility at a reasonable level about 75% of the time. 10 players running at 75% means there is around a 5-6% chance they all do their job on any given play, which sadly does not feel too far off. OL is a mess. They looked lost running OZ vs UTEP. How the hell is that possible, given it has been the core running play for the offense the last few years? Lot of new starters, but what the hell did they practice the last few years? Plenty more I can come up with there. See PFF grades I watched Arch make a good read and throw to Winston only to have Nibblet come across the field and lay a nice hit on Winston breaking up the pass. How the fuck does that happen? I watched the OL do a great job on split zone and Clark decides to try and bust it outside and turn a 7+ yard gain into a 1 yard gain. How about WR/TE blocking? Niblett struggles to block for screens. Are we sure that is a Niblett issue or coaches asking him to do something he is really not suited for? Thought I saw a play where 2 TEs ran into each other vs UTEP. The offense is OU 2024 bad right now. Sark needs to cull the playbook. Focus on few things the entire offense can execute at a reasonable level. Right now Arch running the football is the best aspect of the offense. He has been solid with the deep ball. GT counter seems to be the one of the better runs for the OL. How about using those things as a foundation? Perhaps if the offense gets a couple concepts they can execute consistently, it will help Arch regain his confidence.
  23. This is a crazy idea, but just maybe Texas struggled to the ball when faced with honest boxes and short yardage situations. Almost like SJSU and UTEP were evidence of that. Either that or you believe hte Texas run game is good evidenced by the OSU game and SJSU/UTEP games were a fluke.
  24. Funny thing about Arch. I trust him more to hit a 30 yard route, than a 10 yard route. It makes no sense, but the numbers bear it out.
  25. Throw to Endries and Livingstone in the 4Q were legit throws. I believe PFF had him with 4 big time throws in the 4Q vs OSU. That was the only time Texas scored in that game. He generally has good movement in the pocket. He has made OL pass pro look better. I will caveat with he started to leave early vs UTEP. He has been the best runner on the team. He shows the best vision. He is the most explosive runner. He has hit some nice 2nd and 3rd reads but amazingly stares at 1 read throws too long. He has spiked balls in the turf. He has shown a really high ceiling and a really low floor in his 5 starts. Its actually very Vince like. Do not take that to mean I am predicting he will be Vince.
