  1. I get ya. But I think the amount of standing up and shouting will depend upon the virus. Something similar to the flu or Covid, I agree with you. Lots of kids and olds suffering painful otherwise preventable deaths from some new bird/bat bug - a modern day 1918 Spanish influenza we haven’t seen before? Oh, there’s gonna be some shouting.
  2. These are not the copium selling droids you’ve been looking for…
  3. That may certainly turn out to be true Brisket. But as we sit here today, there has not been enough movement by those harmed by the Trump administration because it is so early in the pain train. I guess it boils down to me having more faith in the cowardice of elected representatives changing their position if their eligibility is endangered. And if Trump pushes us into a giant recession or stagflation while destroying all of the government benefits people rely on, I also have more faith in villagers with torches than you do - at least when the villagers themselves have finally been hurt. So I agree with you in general, but I think it’s too soon to tell….because I don’t know how bad it will be. Really, really, really bad could in fact change things in ways we can’t see right now. Because we have no idea when and how that coalition would come to be - or who the members would be. Let me keep my one faint hope.
  4. I think I know many, many people on the conservative side, who, despite their political ideology, have not adopted the mouth breather anti-science hatred of vaccines. With rare gerrymandered exceptions,I think Congress generally would be terrified of voter reactions if Congress helped to deny vaccines for dangerous new viruses. Could be wrong, but I think that would be a dangerous bridge too far.
  5. oh, I hear you. But I haven’t given up on the awesome power of greed and avarice as wielded by Big Business. And I agree they will go along to get along if it is in their economic interest, but I’m still naive enough to think if they start to believe that their ability to make obscene profits are being unduly hindered, they still have tricks up their sleeve to get rid of that impediment.
  6. Fo’ sho’! Never said differently. I only suggested that 2% was not a massive cut. Now, if 600 people represent the ethnic cleansing of top management personnel, that would be something else to consider.
  7. Did Big Pharma get rid of all their lobbyists and quit donating to politicians?
  8. Massive might be overstating it. I think they are close to 25,000 military and civilian employees at Tinker. That would be 2 to 3%. More of a nothing burger I’m thinking.
  9. What do you do now sweetheart? Well, enjoy the benefit of the new totally free Trump “Ozempic-like” weight loss plan. And by that I mean, you don’t get anything to eat anymore and so will lose weight. I very much like the ‘just admit you were lied to’ tactic, as it allows them to accept a different opinion without admitting they are the dumbest, most gullible people on earth. Sound strategy. “Thet ernge feller lied to us….eggs is still ‘spensive!!”
  10. it’s nice to see Trump making up with countries he formally called ‘shit holes’. The man is a uniter, not a divider.
  11. I could see the narcissist having a stroke while eating a big Mac if there are riots throughout the country and many of his base are being mean to him. I would think his first natural inclination would be to attack anyone in the GOP criticizing his plans. But if enough scared of their constituents congressmen oppose what he’s doing out of self preservation, creating a GOP on GOP fight is not going to help his problems. Fox knows that it can lead public opinion, but it also knows they lose money if they go against strong public opinion. If more right wing sources oppose Trump out of political self preservation it will start devolving into a bigger mess, as Trump only knows Roy Cohan’s strategy of always be on attack and never admit you are wrong - at least when you can throw other people under the bus. That other person would be Elmo. I think that Elmo knows a lot of things that would be very dangerous to Trump. Like the Ragin’ Cajun says, let’s sit back and watch it unfold
  12. I’mma let somebody else bash this hanging curve
  13. I would like to think so too. But then I reflect on how MAGA views the traitorous J6 individuals and the events of that day, and I’m not so sanguine. Anyone who has read TTom’s Surly posts on January 6 would have some serious reservations that people like him give a shit about the Constitution. Mostly, because they don’t.
  14. Once there is violence, Trump will try to confiscate weapons. It will be interesting to see if the Second Amendment, apparently the only amendment that counts in their worldview - can be violated and ignored if the guns they are collecting belong to the other side. I would guess they have no problem with that. I have an ancestor who, during the revolutionary war was charged by the committee of safety of the town to seize the firearms of Tories in the area. No fucks were given about taking their private firearms because they were on the wrong team. My guess would be that MAGA will allow the violation of the second amendment so long as it produces lib tears. I also think there is a minority of true believer second amendment advocates who would think that is a bridge too far for Trump. I only hope I never find out.
  15. Maybe. Maybe not. I do believe that the number of rifles and handguns in the United States is a bit larger than those similar weapons in the possession of the German populous in the 1930s. Which weren’t similar, actually. I’d guess that GOP politicians who support canceling elections would have to watch their back 24-7. I know they are terrified of Trump‘s minions, but I don’t know if they have thought this through. there are other people they need to be terrified of.
  16. They were just more than a tad war criminal-ish, genocide loving, peaceful country invading, forcing women to be sex slaves when they were also killing the children bad neighbors than we felt comfortable with. IOW, they were current Russia with a better Navy.
  17. She hates the orange shit stain, and is smarter than the orange shit stain to a very large degree. Trump hates women generally if there are something other than cum buckets, but he absolutely hates strong, powerful women acting with authority. I approve.
  18. Not Meet the Press, but an interesting post on X about State of the Union. Like Julia Davis, I read it so you don’t have to.
  19. Considering that FDR had just won his 94th presidential election bystating he would keep us out of war, he had to find more subtle reasons to ensure we would get into a war. I think I mentioned before that prior to Pearl Harbor that he would send what he called “pop-up” cruises to Japan’s territorial waters - he did not want for us to “start” a war, but he had no problem if they attacked us and one started. We tried like hell to provoke them, and we succeeded. see below this interesting intelligence memo suggesting how we can help Europe in its war. the money quote from the longcat memo:
  20. Yup. I guess I always assumed with Poland that the biggest problem would be the other European countries having to talk Poland out of attacking Russia tomorrow.
  21. No offense Ag, but I have never heard your defense of why gerrymandering districts so that politicians can absolutely and in total safety ignore any good ideas of the other side - and also be safe to refuse to seek bipartisan compromise (to avoid being primaried by MAGA or a pissed off Trump) is a good thing. That sounds to me as valid as building our next generation battlefield tank out of grass. I mean, I’ve never been in the military, and I’m not an engineer, but there is also a basic common sense/human experience thing that whispers in my ear - even on subjects of which I am not well-versed. If you don’t wanna give it a go in public feel free to private message me. I promise not to share our discussion and to engage in a polite and respectful way. But I admit to not being able to conjure one good thing that would come of that system of fully gerrymandered districts - at least not without seeing your input. The offer is genuine. Nm. I should’ve read to the bottom of the thread again. I thank you for saying that you like that idea, but you failed to say how it avoids the problems I specifically mentioned. It’s kind of like me asking why you think all muscle cars should have four-cylinder engines, and you reply more cars should be cheaper and painted red. Well, those two things are absolutely legitimate standalone propositions, they don’t address the obvious problem with putting a four-cylinder engine in a muscle car.
  22. I recently saw an interesting documentary about the battle of Britain and the chain home radar network that allowed Britain to barely eke out a win in the battle with Goering. It seems that the top German radar scientist flew over Britain’s newly erected radar towers in the Graf Zeppelin right before war started. Because of the urgency for radar and the lack of prior research, Britain chose some of the simplest tech imaginable, powering the radar system with the countries power grid and synchronizing the radar system. When the Luftwaffe Zeppelin experts and their then-sophisticated radar detection instruments looked at it, they concluded that the sounds they picked up were sparks from the country’s grid - and far too primitive to be a radar network. It seems their own work on radar was so far advanced than Britain’s that they worked on entirely different frequencies, giving entirely different sounds to look for. Germany completely discounted Britain having a working radar detection system that allowed fighter command to stay at their bases instead of flying patrols - allowing them to converge on incoming bombers when they received the hundred miles away warning from radar. Without winning the Battle of Britain, Germany’s invasion of Britain under operation Sea Lion might have been a thing once Germany’s Luftwaffe gained air superiority over the channel. Without great Britain as a staging area, there would’ve been no D-Day landings in June 44 Germany left to its own devices and no American intervention would have very likely wound up controlling the world. Thank God for Pearl Harbor and Germany declaring war on us. Both of those assholes being foes made sleepy pacifist America invent the atomic bomb.
  23. Yeah, I pretty much agree with Inka on this. I thought Russia would create a puppet government who had to contend with years of gorilla attacks and civil disobedience that made Afghanistan look like an easy time and an economic bargain. The bright light in this darkness is Trump‘s going all in with Putin in such a non-sophisticated way insulting way. I’m sure it is in Europe’s normal best interest to defer/along with the US. Had Trump half heartedly pretended to support Ukraine while fucking up every chance to help Ukraine over the long-term, Trump could’ve prevented the Baltic and Nordic states joining with Poland to go their own way and protect their countries from a Russian takeover of Ukraine. Now that they know they are on their own they will likely wind up being a bigger threat to Russia than if they were agreeing to be on the sidelines letting America take the lead. It is terrible for America that we lose our international influence and respect, but it may coalesce Ukraine’s neighbors and the France, Britain Germany triad to fill the power vacuum and help them more over the long run. Or I could be smoking a bowl of Copium.
  24. MAGA is known for being hungry and choosing to eat the chickens instead of the eggs.
  25. I can’t watch Meet the Press on Sunday without throwing shit at the TV when the host refuses to confront the lies and bullshit from the GOP and insist on both siding everything. Anybody with a stronger stomach on here watch today - and can you tell us if/how much DOGE shittery was the subject?
