  1. Saban has been doing that pretty much every year; Sark almost beat him this year.
  2. The odds are in your favor that one day you will be right. I think I might be the only Spencer Shannon honk on this board ... and I'm fine with that.
  3. Y'all always say you'd never hit a woman. I agree with that sentiment, but I'd have been close if I was this Patriots fan who resisted the attempt of this drunken Raiders fan to get into it with him after the Patriots lost on that unbelievably boneheaded play last week. How he didn't react is really pretty beyond me. Anyway, Patriots owner Robert Kraft saw the video and rewarded the guy, Jerry Edmond, with a personalized jersey and an invitation to watch the game (it's going to be cold in Foxboro) from the owner's suite. Pretty classy all the way around.
  4. Mark Twain once said that a man who holds a cat by the tail learns a lesson he can learn in no other way. Your boy did the equivalent today. Yeah, but on the other hand, every lazy ass to the southwest of you has a clean lawn. It's good be be neighborly.
  5. Found an old hat in the closet. I have no idea where it came from. Kept getting funny looks at HEB. Couldn't figure out why. 😉
  6. I actually love ERCOT's website. Renewables, wind and solar, are currently providing about 40% of Texas's electricity. That percentage is even higher in Iowa, which leads the nation in terms of renewable power as a percentage of overall power consumed.
  7. That is the shrine in Falfurrias to Don Pedro Jaramillo, a curandero, faith healer, and folk saint from the Rio Grand Valley, 1907. He was known as "the healer of Los Olmos creek and "el mero jefe" of the curanderos. It was recorded in Alice, Texas, that he would sometimes buy $500 worth of goods at a time, simply to feed the poor. The number nine was prominent in his cures. Some low-down person badly vandalized it a few years ago in a completely senseless act. Here is a news article about that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_P2LGA8B8gE
  8. They met at Clemson? Clemson? The Lord moves in mysterious ways.
  9. I am on a family group text and everybody is bitching about the cold weather. I was talking about how it's supposed to get down to 15 degrees or whatever in Austin. One of my nieces lives in Iowa and it's already 15 degrees at her place. My dad lives in Minnesota and it's ten below zero at his house at the moment. Then one of my other nieces dropped the bomb. She and her husband live outside of Galena, Alaska, which is in the Yukon. She just said "quit 'yer bitchin'!" and posted this photo, which she took at her house this morning. That's right. Minus 55 degrees without the wind chill. She said it's unlikely to get above zero for months and that right now there's just a little over three hours of "daylight." I feel kind of bad for complaining.
  10. I may have to discard that nasty "miss information" comment I had started to write in my head.
  11. Yeah but that's not all profit. 500 million or so goes to paying Cambodian sweatshop labor.
  12. I hope he does it while floating around in an inner tube in that pool and drinking a mai tai.
  13. I think it was Choate who said we have a few more surprises coming today.
  14. He and I are internet bros. But ... Sam Ehlinger is now following me on Twitter, so I have that going for me. 😀
  15. You all may remember Andrew Intrater, Viktor Vekselberg's cash handler, as the man who made hundreds of calls to Michael Cohen during Trump's 2016 campaign and gave Cohen's firm 500k. More greatness: in his 2020 financial disclosure, George Santos declared no assets or earned income in his 2020 report, and that his only compensation in excess of $5,000 from a single source came from a commission bonus: https://disclosures-clerk.house.gov/public_disc/financial-pdfs/2020/10035760.pdf In his 2022 financial disclosure, Santos declared that he had assets worth between $2.6 million and $11.25 million. It also said he had income from a family business, the Devolder Organization, between $1 million to $5 million and a salary of $750,000. https://disclosures-clerk.house.gov/public_disc/financial-pdfs/2022/10050385.pdf
  16. It gets better. Santos received 55 thousand dollars (that we know of) in campaign funds from the cousin and cash handler for one of Russia’s most notorious oligarchs, Viktor Vekselberg, after labeling the Ukrainians a totalitarian regime. https://www.thedailybeast.com/republican-george-devolder-santos-got-cash-from-andrew-intrater-cousin-of-russian-oligarch-viktor-vekselberg
