The call on the field should have stood, whichever call had been made. I tend to think his hands weren’t far enough under the ball, but that’s more of an impression than anything I actually saw.
And LSU, who couldn’t even beat USC. But that’s an SEC team on their schedule. The cognitive dissonance will be strong, but clearly this LSU team is much better now.
I don’t think anyone is forgetting them. I don’t think people are saying he won’t be fine. I think we’re seeing why the “Arch should starts” idiocy was idiocy, is all.
It’s nice to have a backup who can run the real offense at a fairly high level, but there’s a substantial drop off right now. That’s perfectly understandable.
They can’t cover the pass but they’re going to beat the sips. I can’t help but think poor pass coverage is a bad matchup for them in that game. I guess we’ll see.
That’s more a function of taking too long to pull the trigger than the deep ball, as such, imo.
But, throwing them a little short almost always beats throwing them too long.
And the TDs were garbage time and a gap bust. Yeah, those are part of the game and yeah none of these offenses are elite, but it’s been too long since Texas could do this even against less than stellar offenses. And, the defense is one block in the back from having two TDs of their own.
Yes. That’s why I said “may have.” “Definitely would have stood a much better chance “ != “guaranteed.” And is an example of why it annoys me that backups aren’t put in to run the offense.
The way he talked, he kind of intended to last week. Unless things go off the rails tonight, I’m pretty sure he will.
One of the things that annoys me is putting in the backup just to hand off. Run the damned offense. May have cost Brown a national championship.
Oh, I don’t care, either, I just think it’s disingenuous sometimes. I don’t think Sarkisian wants to run anyone’s nose in it — though he’ll do it, as Tech and Oklahoma State saw — but he’ll keel putting up points if that’s what he think he needs to do to get his guys good experience.
It doesn’t beg the question. It raises the question.
And when Manning wrecks shop next year, I suspect the explanation will be that “I could throw for 300 yards in Sarkisian’s system with that talent around me, he’s nothing special.”
