Bear in mind that you'd be at high altitude (right around 7K feet) and it does get cold there in the winter. The average daily low in December and January is in the upper teens according to the climate data I've seen. Santa Fe averages around 20 inches of snow per year according to that same data. Your wife hasn't lived anywhere but Austin, so I've got to think the winter in Santa Fe, such as it is, would be a big adjustment for her. Is she okay with that? It's one thing to go there in the summer and hang out for a week in nice weather. It's another to live there year round. Maybe she'd be okay with it, but at the very least it is something that should be a topic of discussion and contemplation.
FWIW, my situation is similar to yours, i.e., I can live in most places and be content, whereas the wife (no pics) is a lot choosier. Given that she was born and raised in SoCal, I know she would put the kibosh on living anywhere that gets as cold in the winter as Santa Fe.
