I survived my family Thanksgiving last weekend, brief as it was. Made sure to make some time with my sister and BIL on the patio to talk some shit with like-minded individuals, but left the politics away from the dinner table this time.
My wife did have a sit-down with my mom the day before to talk about how they can get along better outside of politics. My mother did go out of her way to point out how centrist is she is (she has voted for Trump 3 times, so still waiting on a "centrist" D, I guess). She also mentioned that she is pro-LGB, just not the T, and said that Charlie Kirk, who I am all but certain she was unaware of until his death, was a great guy.
Someone mentioned a while ago that they are treating their MAGA relationships in a completely transactional way. I'll take the free babysitting, while occasionally letting them know their beliefs are abhorrent. They appear to be a completely lost cause, so we will just not have a close relationship for the foreseeable future.
The next few days will be spent with my wife's family, which ranges from politically apathetic to somewhat liberal. An improvement at least.
