  1. because it *is* in her purview to get people tuned in and rooting for team usa and women’s basketball. eta: especially when winning gold is a formality. if you want your sport to grow there’s no bigger stage then the olympics.
  2. aside from the fact that this lady doesn’t know what the word purview means, if she’s serious about them not caring how many people tune in or root for the team then she’s admitting that she’s bad at her job, as well as refuting the no.1 talking point of women’s basketball over the last 10-15 years which has been, “pay attention to us!!!” michael jordan and the dream team used the world stage to promote basketball and now it’s a mega global sport just like soccer. we can directly link the existence of so many great modern european players with the 1992 dream team and the way they took the game worldwide. but what do the women do when they have a chance to grow their sport just sitting on a tee for them? they go out of their way to make people dislike them even more than they already did. way to go women. you guys truly are the way showers when it comes to earning people's respect.
  3. assuming CC doesn’t end up on the team, it will be hilarious when multiple indiana fever 20-point losses have more usa tv viewers than the women’s gold medal game. in fact it would be hilarious to have a fever game going up against the gold medal game on tv. the ratings disaster and ensuing controversy would serve the rest of the women right.
  4. kyle russell, jeff ontiveros, mark payton, and ivan melendez can’t make the bigs, but you’re as good as joey gallo. lol ok.
  5. the only reason she’s a potential distraction is because she alone is more important and socially relevant than the rest of the team combined, x a million. those same women have been loudly begging for people to pay attention to their sport for years. now that it’s happening on terms they didn’t agree to, it’s suddenly a distraction. you know what wouldn’t be a distraction? the rest of the team/league embracing caitlin clark and the attention that comes with her, attention they’ve been dying to have. why can't they select CC over the injured girl and have diana turasi put her arm around CC and mentor her during the olympics? why can’t the rest of the team say to her, “you’re the future, but you’ve got a lot to learn. this time around we’re going to show you how it’s done; next time around it’s your turn.” what a great thing that would be for those women, for the team, and for the league. why can’t we do that? oh yeah, that’s right: women. be. petty. women be petty. they don’t want female empowerment, they want personal attention, and fame, and money, and since none of these these women can get these things on their own merit, they have to hate the one player who can. it’s is that simple. people who defend the wnba and its players will bend over backwards to make a million excuses, but it really is just that simple.
  6. i hope it’s true. people will love this or hate this, but i sweatergawd our program could use some of this attitude and energy:
  7. if a black girl was the best passer in college basketball (men’s or women’s), was dropping 35-40 points per game with regularity, was hitting 7+ threes in a game with regularity, was leading her team to the final four, was the NPOY, and was being force fed to the sports watching public by espn due to their vested interest in women’s hoops, then america would be just as into her as we are CC. whats really insane about this though? the race stuff. because i don’t think that cc’s race has *anything* to do with her fame for anyone who isn’t already an actual racist. but what i do believe, is that if CC were black that the hatred and animosity she’s receiving from her peers in the wnba would only be a fraction of what it currently is. that’s how it works. “you like her because she’s white!” says the people who hate her in no small part because she’s white. zero chance that “the culture” would be treating a lack girl this way. none.
  8. because espn didn’t spend the last two years overloading america with highlights of aja wilson playing ball like a female steph curry. end of story.
  9. putting this here since the three people who actually post in the wnba thread get all pissy if you post anything that isn’t blond sunshine pumping for this league. leave it to the wnba to be so embarrassing that jason whitlock can rightfully call you on your bullshit.
  10. but lebron said he was the best ever.
  11. also i re-added james wood and im not going to drop him this time, however i am willing to sell low on him as we still don’t know exactly when he’ll be called up, plus i’ve got a good of with jasson dominguez on the way. so if you have a pitcher you want to trade straight up for wood shoot me an offer.
  12. then there’s pflugerville hot, where skylar diggins is a solid 5.5.
  13. you could see that coming a mile away: https://www.reddit.com/r/Unexpected/s/INcTtWCarx
