  1. That’s great. There are now contracts that protect players in case of injury. How about addressing the issue of players receiving payments with the express understanding that they will not be playing as I also referenced. EDIT also, what about all the contracts where there is a more commercial benefit for the people paying for the NL? Is that paid to play?
  2. Pay for play is: here is your money for last week's game; here is your money for last week's statistics; here is your money for next month's game against State; here is your money for next month's statistics. (To date, with legit contracts) NIL != PfP. Full stop. Does the likelihood of or reality of playing at school X change the market for NIL? Of course. No one is arguing otherwise. But don't be fatuous and say that Burnt Ends payments to tight ends that (1) don't even see the field during the contract year, (2) do, in fact have a contract (not with the school), and (3) fulfill the terms of their contract are PfP. If you interpret financial benefit that is associated with being a member in good standing of the football squad (especially a promising one at a position of need) as pay-for-play, then you have tautologically created your own conclusion. When you define something as more or less than it is, you can create or banish it quite easily. Some NIL will be motivated by love of school, some by love of publicity, some by market analysis and choice of profitable publicity. If the average UT student could demonstrably do a commercial that helped sell product X, he would get a contract. Does NIL get canceled for season-ending injury? If no, I guess it isn't PfP. If you see pointing out nuance as dissimulation, you will never be convinced.
  3. Especially if that loss were, for example, early season and close to a great team. Imagine a rolling ball of butcher knives being left out of the playoff so that Texas State could go as the conference champion #5 or #7? Is the sacredness of a conference championship so great that either 11-1 tOSU or 11-1 Bama should sit at home and watch Liberty play for all the marbles? EDIT oh, and remember that meaningless game no one cared about in Ann Arbor. I mean, it didn't materially affect our path to the playoffs so why even play it? Probably no one even watched it. I bet no one tunes in for the game at Pyle field in November if we already have a CCG appearance clinched because the games don't mean anything in the era of the 12TCFP.
  4. Arkansas Pick (slight fav) 4-1 Mizzou Loss 4-2 MSU Win 5-2 LSU Loss 5-3 USCe Loss 5-4 NMSU Win 6-4 Auburn Win 7-4 Texas Mudhole 7-5 Figure they could choke one away against Arkansas or Auburn, luck into a win against USCe or LSU-- should come out in the wash for an O/U of 7 wins before their appearance in the Purina Dog Food Bowl.
  5. Maybe a more controlled environment. Media release of promo video which includes interviews with guys like Ewers about how they looked up to him or some such. Build up the positive image in hard-to-assail formats until the time is more opportune for a live recognition. EDIT maybe interview with guys like Colt. Ha I'm getting old.
  6. There is not going to be a perfect solution. Smaller tournament = undefeated or otherwise "deserving" teams can be left out. Larger tournament = "undeserving" teams get to compete for the title. 12 is a compromise; any team not among the top 5 conference winners or top 7 at-large is unlikely to have a legitimate claim to be the champion. Conversely, one could think about it as our conference alignment is so good now that the potential champions largely get to face each other in exciting regular season games in pool play before the single-elimination phase. At least now the championships aren't mythical. This beats the heck out of our treatment in 2008.
  7. Why go conservative once we're up?
  8. But what if he thanked me for my paying the shipping fee?
  9. I don't remember calling you out, but early on I sure didn't want to believe you. Your ideas were not popular, but there were a few who saw the writing on the wall.
  10. Wow what a misperception on my part. I thought the alumni band was usually big and well-announced. Did I miss the information when I went for food at the beginning of half-time?
  11. gno.
  12. Saturday it looked like the ULM band was in the NE corner nosebleeds circa 119, so I figured that was visitor land now.
  13. Pac should just come crawling to the MWC and offer a merger.
  14. 63-0 Texas wins 600 yards from scrimmage
  15. I don't think I have ever been present to witness the birth of a new genre of fine art before this.

  17. Just realized: every team we play this year is from a different state than every other until we double up on Texas for the aggy game. Unless I am mistaken (always a risk, sadly), this is our first regular season to play teams from 11 different states.
  18. FIFY. He went to West Texas. Aggy put its name on the school after he left.
  19. It has been long enough that I don't know whether the institutional memory of aggy behavior when we come to town is sufficient to warn Sark/CDC without a little alumni help. Does our AD/team know not to stay anywhere owned by aggy or close to B/CS before this year's game? Does the Surl need to warn them somehow?
  20. Lendale White The call : "He got it!" shortly thereafter clarified that Lendale got the carry but did not get the 1st down
  21. I guess I'm old and misinterpreted your comment as negative. Mea Culpa.
  22. One of the self-claimed other 2 roommates from McCoy Sr and Shipley claims still to be a family friend of the McCoys. My conversations with him seem to indicate that it was always Texas.
  23. This! Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?
  24. Would Heupel have been terrible as an OC had he been allowed to pursue the personnel for Air Raid and actually to run Air Raid rather than being redirected based on Stoops' awe (or response to that of boosters) of JFF?
