  1. Domedriver is right when it comes to college sports. My hate goes back to Ara Parseghian and Ross Browner trash talking Earl. While OU was our biggest rival, they never came across as being on a higher level than everyone else. Most entitled mother fuckers ever and not deserving. Right along with their buddy Penn St. Fuck them and touchdown Jesus.
  2. Yeah, pretty much just an elaborate photo op. Got the press he wanted, nothing more to see here. Move along. Seriously, how much time and money and attention is going into these optics. Seems if we took the money we are spending on walls and playing militia and sent humanitarian aid to those countries these people are fleeing from, we'd all be miles ahead. But no. No money in that, not enough resources in those countries we don't already control. I know, it's off topic for Tx Governor, but it's not that far off, since it hits a major philosophy we have when it comes to carrying a big stick instead of helping reduce tensions by making other peoples lives better. 2020 Peace Corp budget was less than 400 million for the whole program. US military spent 725 Billion in the same year. We need more Charlie Wilsons. To bring it full circle, Greg Abbott is using fear and hatred against immigrants instead of 1) pushing for a better immigration system, and 2) pushing to help those people in their own countries. Fuck solutions, just vote for me and you can feel good about defeating a phantom menace.
  3. Then Came You was pretty well done as one of those "person finds meaning in their own life while helping someone die" movies. Good work by the two leads, the lead from Sex Ed, and the little warrior princess from GOT. It didn't bite off too much and came off as pretty realistic. Ever wish you could get a do-over? How your life could be different if you had some nearly infinite mulligans? About Time is a quirky little movie that gets into that. Rachel McAdams does a good job fitting into a basically Brit cast. It's more like a fairy tale come true, but it's a nice escape piece. The Holiday was a Hallmark Movie on steroids, except this one actually implied that some of the characters had sex outside the marriage bed and that is ok. I guess there will always be a place for movies that allow us to escape into a world where we are the select few who have all the looks, the charm and great jobs, charming friends and kids, etc (you know, an average surlyite that only bangs 10s). It was ok, but trite in too many places.
  4. So is Omeire done or is that an assumption? I know he's out this year, but I guess I missed anything on him taking a medical out. Which is too bad, I was really hoping he could show out next year.
  5. Thing is this shit goes on all the time and these fuckers walk. I have a friend who was in FL separated from her cheating POS husband. She would let him come see the two boys, aged 8 and 4 at the time. Each time he got more violent and abusive. Last time he beat he so bad it broke her nose and cracked a rib. She had to go to the ER. The hospital had to make a report, otherwise she wouldn't have, out of fear. He was arrested and eventually charged and convicted. She flees back to Jersey with her boys while he's in the drunk tank. She gets counseling, the boys get counseling for at least a year, since they saw several of these encounters. He goes through a 6 month anger management course and completes a year of sobriety in AA and not only is he done, but his record is expunged. You look the fucker up none of this ever happened. He followed her to Jersey after his 6 months. She can't move to any state without getting his approval, since he was granted 1 hour a week supervised visitation with those kids. It's fucked. It's endemic in all levels of our culture. And women have very few rights, in spite of what all the whining you hear. Find "What the Constitution Means to Me" by Heidi Schrek. There's a lot of humor in it, but it's a powerful message. Also she will be live in Dallas Jan 4-9 2022

  7. I guess they are going to do the Lemons tribute Saturday? I kept waiting for just anything...but no...just lowell and lance droning on.
  8. The Beguiled with Kidman, Dunst, Farrell and Fanning did not really live up to the cast. Had some interesting plot twists though. The Florida Project with Willem Dafoe was not what I expected. The more things change, the more they remain the same it seems. Sad and uplifting at the same time.
  9. Tom Cavanagh always in Ed seemed to have some decent range. I kind of imagined him in some Atticus Finch type roles, but mainly just did a lot of comic book stuff. He doesn't look too far out of the Goldblum/Hanks mold appearance wise, so I guess it's delivery and range more than anything. She was a favorite of mine too. Her attitude in Falcon Crest was great. And women like her and JLH just come across better in motion than in stills. But I never saw her being much more than a nighttime soap star. A lot of nice eye candy actresses got taken off the screen by marriage. Phoebe Cates (mentioned earlier), Donna Dixon, Kelly Preston. I wonder how much of that could have been them just wanting to get away from the guys like Weinstein.
  10. It's like a cross between a US western/confederacy thing played with a strong woman as the heroine set in 1825 Tazmania. I found it a good story line, and enjoyed seeing how other places depict the violence and injustices. But thanks for answering.
  11. So no one has watched The Nightingale yet?
  12. I think they have a larger need to be right about something than a revulsion of admitting they are wrong. Many are largely uneducated, and they feel that inadequacy, though can't admit it out loud. So they have to base their decisions on "common sense" or "faith" and not science. That's why they fall for stuff like Q or flat earth or anti-vax. It's akin to buying a lottery ticket daily. People laugh at them for doing it, but when they finally win (and they will), who'll be laughing at them then? The longer the odds they have to beat, the smarter they will look when they win, right? Like an ideological lottery. And that doesn't take into account those kids whose parents are long COVID and how everything in their world got turned on its head. How we as a country approach and support these orphans and hurting families will be a big influence on who we become as a country going forward. A lot of them have already given up on this world, and are looking to be martyrs for the cause. A slow burn Guyana. Add into these calculations the forecast of AI and robotics taking more and more jobs, what professions can you introduce them to that can be rewarding, fulfilling and sustainable? We had polio, TB and Spanish Flu rack our country over the first half of last century. That tied with the crash of the Gilded Age and the Great Depression pushed our collective mind thought into a place of "there go I, but by the grace of God." That led to the Great Society movement. It just seems history is repeating itself.
  13. Not big vote of confidence for this dental office.
  14. Oh I get that. That documentary got into a lot of that. What it also pointed out was how much his own ego took a hit going from this center of attention bandleader to the redhead's prop. It wasn't all Lucy overshadowing him, but a lot of it was him being Cuban and Hollywood could not see a Cuban being anything more than a novelty actor. I was in your camp thinking it was all philandering on his part that tore them asunder, but there were other factors at play, like Lucy's mother. It also did a good job of explaining how he was a better dad than Lucy was a mom, and why. Which is pretty powerful when you know it's the kids telling the story.
  15. I agree. But from what I have seen it wasn't just Lucy making those decisions. Desi was more the business end of the stick. They probably made the decisions together, but to not credit him for any of it would be erroneous. I watched a really good documentary on Amazon a few months ago. It was produced by Lucie Arnaz and I found it very interesting. Might be a good primer for this new biopic. From one review I read, Lucie is definitely endorsing the new effort. https://www.amazon.com/Lucy-Desi-Movie-Lucille-Ball/dp/B07QDPP86F
  16. The groan at the end is amazing. It escapes my lips at least once a month.
  17. That's a good point. It's uniquely written from that standpoint. Hadn't really thought about it, but now I am thinking maybe that's part of the storyline. It's not like you dislike them profusely, but each has their flaws to keep them from being embraceable. I would have thought by the title and the fact it's a Daniels' vehicle, there would be more focus on the decline of fly over America, but other than the union issue that's been pretty quiet.
