  3. https://www.cnbc.com/2018/07/26/facebook-on-pace-for-biggest-one-day-loss-in-value-for-any-company-sin.html Facebook on Thursday posted the largest one-day loss in market value by any company in U.S. stock market history after releasing a disastrous quarterly report. The social media giant's market capitalization plummeted by $119 billion to $510 billion as its stock price plummeted by 19 percent. At Wednesday's close, Facebook's market cap had totaled nearly $630 billion, according to FactSet. No company in the history of the U.S. stock market has ever lost $100 billion in market value in just one day, but two came close. https://variety.com/2018/digital/news/facebook-market-cap-120-billion-user-growth-slow-1202886792/ The stock drop, to its lowest levels in nearly three months, wiped out nearly $120 billion in market capitalization for Facebook and dragged down other internet and tech stocks including Twitter and Snap. Facebook’s market cap was $629 billion at market close Wednesday, and ended the day Thursday at around $510 billion. The massive drop in market value represented the biggest single-day decline in history for any publicly held company, according to Thomson Reuters data. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s net worth plummeted more than $15 billion with the stock dive, although it’s still around $67 billion, according to Forbes’ real-time net worth tracker. What drove the selloff: Investor concern about Facebook’s growth cooling down. Facebook’s daily active users for the second quarter of 2018 were effectively flat in the U.S. sequentially, and even declined in Europe compared with Q1 — marking the first time the company has seen such a decline in recent quarters. The big story from the earnings report was the forecast that revenue will decelerate in the second half of 2018, Pivotal Research analyst Brian Wieser wrote in a research note. “[W]hile the company is still growing at a fast clip, the days of 30%+ [revenue] growth are numbered,” he wrote.
  4. https://www.npr.org/2018/07/15/629226998/protests-break-out-in-chicago-following-deadly-police-shooting Cops shot a guy yesterday saying, "He had a gun, and was getting ready to use it." Folks protest and throw things. Cops release a short body cam clip suggesting he was indeed reaching for a weapon. Protests in Chicago escalated on Saturday night, becoming a tense clash between demonstrators and police over the fatal shooting of a man on the city's South Side. On Sunday, police released a 30-second video clip from an officer's body-worn an camera showing a black man shot by Chicago police had a gun in a holster at his hip. According to The Associated Press, the man was "running away and reaching toward his waist when he was shot multiple times." 5. I have this little pile of bug parts collecting on a window sill. Directly above the pile is the window shade housing and a small hole. I think something is pushing dead bugs or digested/discarted parts through the hole in the window shade housing and they are piling up on the sill below. I keep cleaning them up but they keep coming. This picture has about 3 days worth. I think it might be a spider that’s eating ants or something. We sprayed for ants about two months ago which coincidentally is about when this started happening.
  6. http://www.latimes.com/business/technology/la-fi-tn-twitter-fake-accounts-20180709-story.html Twitter Inc.'s stock sank Monday after a news report said the company suspended more than 70 million accounts in May and June — a cleanup of the platform that may affect user growth. That's gonna leave a mark. The company estimates that roughly 5% of its active users are fake or involved in spam, but outside researchers have said the number is much higher. That's gonna leave a scar.

  8. http://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/world/americas/venezuela/article206950449.html At 16, Liliana has become the mother figure for a gang of Venezuelan children and young adults called the Chacao, named after the neighborhood they’ve claimed as their territory. The 15 members, ranging in age from 10 to 23, work together to survive vicious fights for “quality” garbage in crumbling, shortage-plagued Venezuela. Their weapons are knives and sticks and machetes. The prize? Garbage that contains food good enough to eat.
  9. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/jan/08/prince-harry-and-meghan-say-they-are-stepping-back-from-royal-family Apparently it's a big deal across the pond. I don't know why the Brits care so much what a guy 6th in line to the crown does with his life and his hot wife.
  10. We ain't talkin' bout practice anymore. Upperclassmen-laden team, Heisman candidate QB with a first round LT, frighteningly talented DL and DBs. Time for Herman to nut up and win the the Big XII, make the Playoff, and smash up OU's trailer park. We begin by thrashing the worst team in FBS tomorrow. Hook 'em!
  11. No weapons. Putting this here instead of some other board for maximum lulz.
  12. A few months after the great schism between Bobby and Nahlin, I thought it might be fun to compare the YouTube channels for Texas sites in terms of overall viewership. ON TEXAS FOOTBALL: First up is On Texas Football, naturally a fan favorite here because it's the only channel not operated by a mouth breather. Based on the average of their last 12 "live" streams, Bobby and co. are averaging 4.64 thousand views. ORANGEBLOODS: Next we come to Ketch and co., a site so despised here that we ran off a poster here simply because it seemed he might possibly be Ketch, an intern at Orangebloods, or simply some poor soul who obliviously posted a few links to there. And why not? Any taint of that website should be banished just to be safe. Big boy and his team are averaging 1.96 thousand views per stream. INSIDE TEXAS Finally we come to team Nahlin, which has a mix of absolute garbage commentary with some people like Drew Kelson who are great to listen to. But in the main, the self-aggrandizing navel-gazing of most contributors there make the Inside Texas streams unlistenable. Maybe it's just me. They're averaging 2.47 million views. Naturally this analysis means fuck all. But I have to say that Inside Texas numbers are somewhat impressive given that the channel was only created in December, whereas the Orangebloods YouTube channel was created all the way back in April 2021. Yikes. Also, who the fuck is watching Orangebloods streams. What is wrong with you?
  13. WISE COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) — A two-day search in rural Wise County amid cold temperatures led to the discovery of Athena Strand's body. The 7-year-old was first reported missing from her father's home on Nov. 30. At about 8:00 p.m. on Dec. 2, 2022, Sheriff Lane Akin said her body was found about 9 miles away from her home, southeast of Boyd. Police said that the contract driver of a FedEx truck abducted Athena and that she likely died within an hour based on digital evidence and on a confession. The driver was named as Tanner Lynn Horner, 31. He is being held at the Wise County Jail on charges of capital murder and aggravated kidnapping. His bond has been set at $1.5 million. Sheriff Akin said that at about the time Athena went missing, Horner dropped off a package at the home. She was probably abducted from her driveway, about 200 yards away from the house. According to the Sheriff, Horner gave detectives at least two false locations - including an area of CR 4599 that was taped off by police on Friday afternoon - before leading them to Athena's body. There was no information about a possible motive, but authorities said Horner did not know Athena or her family. Earlier this week, Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin said they believe Athena likely ran away but did not rule out foul play. "It could be any number of things and we're looking at all those possibilities." The Wise County Sheriff's Office said they received a call from her stepmother reporting her missing after the two had an argument while her father was not home. Police said she spent "about an hour" looking for her before contacting the sheriff's office. An Amber Alert was issued for Athena on Thursday and several hundred volunteers came out to Wise County to aid in the search.
  14. Metroplex actually: https://www.cbsnews.com/dfw/news/prostitution-ring-bust/ Out of an area as populated as the Metroplex I’m not sure how this is a big blow to sex trafficking. Apparently no sex traffickers, pimps or prostitutes were involved.
