If we get Brenlee, our pitching staff looks like:

JR Teagan Kavan (staff ace) - 48-8, 2.18 ERA, 365 K in 337.2 IP, 8 saves, 2x All American
SR Citlaly Gutierrez - 34-9, 2.17 ERA, 208 K in 283.2 IP, 7 saves
SO Cam Salmon - 7-2, 2.48 ERA, 66 K in 62 IP, 1 save
SO Brenlee Gonazles - 2-0, 2.84 ERA, 12 K in 12.1 IP
FR Hannah Wells - #1 pitcher in the 2025 class, National and Texas Gatorade Player of the Year

That is a salty looking staff.  No pressure on Hannah Wells at all.

If Mike can do with Brenlee what he did with Estelle, it would be a weapon out of the bullpen

Czech came to Texas after one year at NCST (3.14 ERA in 73.2 innings with 39 strikeouts).  Went 34-9 at Texas with a 2.78 ERA and 183 strikeouts in 249.2 IP in 3 seasons.  Especially as Mike bulked up the staff with Mac/TK/Cit and Czech didn't have to pitch as many games, so she became more effective as a lefty changeup out of the pen as she went from starting 16 games as a sophomore to only 5 as a senior (30 games and 103.2 IP as a sophomore -> 24 games and 87.1 IP as a junior -> 23 games and 58.2 IP as a senior)

Rankings are arbitrary and reductive, but calling Hannah Wells the #1 pitching recruit is a bit of a stretch? She's listed as #14 pitcher by On3, not even ranked in top 20 by Prep Softball

No idea how good the comp is, but whenever I look at Wells I can't help but see a possible Pickens starter kit. Huge right arm. That said, I don't think Pickens really had the option of focusing on being a monster collegiate bat.

Chelsea Spencer has stepped down as head coach at Cal. She led the Bears for five years and made three NCAA tournament appearances.

Former Texas assistant who went back to her alma mater.  Weird situation, she just signed a new contract too.

Explains the Cal catcher who transferred to Tech

Apparently some travel ball stats…

Think Nichols is the day 1 starter at 3rd

Mataia Lawson is the leadoff playing shortstop hitting .459 with 3 HRs, 2 triples, and 4 doubles and hits on the left side.

Jaycie Nichols primarily is the leadoff and 2 hole occasionally playing 3rd base hitting on the left side. She is currently hitting .492 with 9 HRs, 6 doubles, and 2 triples.

Ryan Brown - Texas -> Tennessee -> ASU

Hopefully she finally finds what she is looking for

11 ABs at Texas (.182 with 1 HR and 2 RBI) in 2024
11 ABs at Tennessee (.273 with 1 double and 3 RBI) in 2025

That is not much of a resume to take into the transfer portal - ASU must be desperate

Her and the 3rd baseman are the only people we’re pursuing right?

That I’m aware of

I hope it is Brenlee over Lindemuth - we need the lefty change-of-pace arm.  Nichols looks like the real deal to start day 1 at 3rd

Atwood
Stewie
Goode
Martinez
Nichols
Altmeyer
Henry
Maloney

Your batting order first 7 would be 4 seniors (Maloney, Atwood, Goode, Altmeyer) and 3 juniors (Henry, Martinez, Stewie), so there's not a lot of offensive pressure on Nichols and Wells/Lawson/Crabtree

Overall, WCWS > MCWS

But the MCWS finals outdrew the women's - I cannot imagine why.... being a Saturday and Sunday, by itself, while Texas-Tech was a Wednesday, Thursday (NBA finals game) and Friday

weird.  Don't we already have Wallace for that?

With 25 scholarships, we have the room

What’s our current numbers?

21 with Altmeyer, so this is 22 and we still have room for Gonzales or Lindemuth

For unknown reason,  Anderson was not on roster for 2025.    Listed as a utility player.   Hometown Dripping Springs

Anderson was a freshman in 2024 but wasn’t on OSU’s roster this past season. She played in 43 games in 2024, hitting .250 in 16 at-bats.

Among the fastest players in the Gajewski era ... One of OSU’s top options on the basepaths, appearing in 43 games and starting five ... Finished with a .250 batting average in 16 at-bats with 16 runs scored ... Successful on four of her six stolen base attempts .
