LOL that was a wild ride last night

They are wildly inconsistent.

Lost to Georgia, 0-4
Lost to Liberty, 4-5
Lost to aggy, 1-9 (5)
Lost to Auburn, 0-1
Tied Ohio State, 4-4
Lost to Ohio State, 3-7
Lost to FSU, 1-8
Lost to Georgia Southern, 1-4
Took 2/3 from Arizona (but lost to them in the Big 12 tournament)
Split with Florida, 0-3 and 4-0
Lost 2/3 to ASU
Swept by ISU
Lost 2/3 to Baylor
Lost to OU, 0-6
Lost 2/3 to OKST
Dropped a game to UH

They didn't even have to play Tech.  Losing 2/3 to Baylor, 2/3 to OKST and getting swept by ISU is pretty bad - and far far far worse than any of our 10 losses.  As is losing to Auburn and Georgia Southern, and they were totally uncompetitive against aggy, OU and FSU

I think that will be the moral of the story on Friday afternoon between UCF and Michigan - both wildly inconsistent; one team could win 1-0 in 11 innings or one team could win 9-0 in 6 innings.  And the winner could easily lay an egg the next day against Texas after playing their ace

UCF is boosted by their freshman pitcher, Isabella Vega. When she is good, she can be very good....when she is bad, she can be terrible.

Watched highlights and its bad news.   Lots of changeups.

She’s most likely throwing game 1 vs Michigan though. She could come back and pitch against Texas on day 2, but maybe Michigan can hit the change

We got Eric Frede and Madison Shipman for our regional announcing pair

In their conference tournaments,  both UCF and Michigan started their #1 (Vega and Derkowski) on consecutive days and relieved with their #2 (Felton and Hoehn).  No other pitchers saw action.    Could see the same.

Game is on ESPN2, 1PM, Friday

Not really our problem.  Our problem is which lineup (who plays where) will Mike White's dart board reveal.

Her and Cam will end up pitching a clutch couple innings for us in the postseason. Calling it now.

She has a 1.35 ERA, it must have been rare she was terrible. And UCF may throw Felton against UM and save Vega for Texas. Felton is very good too and they may think they can beat UM with Felton. One thing's for sure, Texas won't be going up against a Pinto.

Even average pitchers have a penchant for shutting us down if they have a good offspeed.  It's singleton's kryptonite.  We're gonna need good TK to show up this week and next.  She will likely have to pitch her arm off.

How does a team with two very good pitchers go 12-12 in the big12?

8 out of 12 11 in runs scored.  4th most errors in the conference.  that'll do it.

If Mike is making a change this offseason, can we PLEASE bring in Cat as pitching coach?  Hate to lose her from the booth, but she can stay in Austin for her kid.

She was a good pitching coach at TXST

Good article in the AAS about Mike White's concerns with McCombs field and how it lags behind the SEC.  He's been taking notes while they've been on the road in the SEC play

We got the player development facility and pitching lab upgrades recently, but the issue is money (who is donating for big-time upgrades) and where McCombs slots in the priority queue (football, beach volleyball facility, DF upgrades)

Mike definitely talks about:

Capacity (1200), which lags way behind OU (4200), Bama (3900), Arky/LSU/Florida/Auburn (2500) and aggy/Kentucky/Tenn (2000)

White is a big fan of the covered grandstands that both OU and Georgia have to protect fans from rain and sun and also amplifies noise

So am I.  Our stadium is very bush league by SEC standards.  I'll be there on Friday.  Hopefully, it's cloudy.

It is quite lame we can’t even find a temp fix that only has to be up for 4 months of the year while we fundraise for more permanent upgrades.

Happy start of the regionals! (A rare year where no regional started on Thursday this time, as BYU missed the field)

#6 Texas vs Eastern Illinois - 3:30pm, ESPN+ (time dependent on the game before finishing on time)

UCF and Michigan will start the day at 1pm on ESPN2

Low 90s and cloudy for the UCF-Michigan game
Approaching upper 90s and partly cloudy for our game

Auburn up 5-0 on USF in the 2nd

Auburn's problem has never been offense - their pitching is garbage.

Marist and Liberty going now

Liberty is a surprising pick to take at least a game off aggy

If they can't beat Auburn, Misery or SAM HOUSTON STATE they sure as hell aren't beating agroid in colleyville.

Good lord Auburn, that was not even close. Might get bailed by obstruction and it’s late enough for the umps to call their own review

Tied 1-1

USF went up 7-6 in the top of the 8th and Auburn tied it up in the bottom of the 8th

UCF 3-1 over Michigan after 5.    Heat was really a factor for their starter Derkowsi who exited and Hoehn had walk issues.   Derkowski face very flushed,  receiving cold towels in the dugout.

Would trade 2 players and a player to be named later for Michigan's 2B - awesome defender.

Michigan wins. They were pests to us during the Cat days, and they are one of the hottest teams in softball right now

They did have to throw both Derkowski and Hoehn in the heat today

I still maintain we don't throw TK until tomorrow.  If Mac/Cit/Cam/Sophia cannot shut down EIU, we don't deserve to win a regional

But sometimes, it doesn’t work out that way, and that’s what the Longhorns are trying to avoid. After a 14-2 humbling loss at the hands of rivals Texas A&M in the Southeastern Conference tournament semifinals, Longhorns head coach Mike White said he gave a version of the famously fiery “Augie Garrido speech” to his players to bring them back to life ahead of the regional.

“It was about grit,” White said. “It was about finding a way to win, and that your will has to be greater than your skill. We have to challenge ourselves, and someone has to step up and take the moment and make a change.”

On E Illinois

“They are pretty similar, with one throwing in the high-60s, so good velocity, with a nice changeup,” White said. “The other throws a little more up in the zone with riseballs, so it creates a challenge for us. Anytime you get good velocity, it can stretch the strike zone, so it can put some pressure on us if we get behind.”

As a team, the Panthers have walked more than they’ve struck out, 185 walks to 177 strikeouts, so at the very least, they’ll make the Texas pitchers throw strikes.

White said the motivation from the A&M game is one thing, but the senior class getting one last ride through the postseason is something he’s hoping will happen. He doesn’t want the 14-2 loss to be the lasting memory for them, or the fans, for that matter.

“We’ve got to do this for our seniors, for the players that have done so much,” White said. “We’ve got to put on a better performance for our fans, we owe them that.”

aggy did not throw Kennedy today - Lessetine started.

Tennessee did throw Pickens

So kind of a crap shoot if the ace goes or not for the top seeds against the worst team in the regional

2019 - we don't talk about losing to Sam, 2-1, and coming out of the loser's bracket lol. Bollinger started, Shae pitched 0.2 and Elish pitched 1 inning.  Our offense was the downfall that day.
2021 - Texas won the opener in 5, with O'Leary throwing 3 and Ryleigh White throwing 2 innings (Shae was the ace, but the pitching was a mess that year)
2022 - Texas won the opener in Seattle in a full game, with Czech throwing all 7 innings (Dolcini was the staff ace)
2023 - Texas won the opener  in 5, with Mac throwing 4 and Czech throwing 1 (Mac and Cit were kind of co-aces, almost a 3-headed monster with Czech)
2024 - Texas won the opener in a full game, with Mac throwing all 7 (TK was the ace)

I don't think TK starts today.  Just my guess.
